It had come to my attention that people still don’t know how to use the Tumblr-blessed tagging system, so, as such:
1. Tag your stuff properly
i.e. trigger words, fandom ship tags, characters, real life people, and many others.
Always full name them. E.g. tw suicide, suicide tw, or even just plain suicide. Never sensor them to su!c!d3 or anything similar. People have it blocked for a reason.
There are 2 types for this:
a) Full name them when you’re posting something about this because i) other fans can find you and support your work, and ii) not everyone wants to see the ship (for reasons that are their own).
b) When you want to rant about a ship in the tags of your post, it’s always great to have some courtesy to censor the ship name so that it doesn’t get slotted into the main ship tag. The fans of that ship tag don’t want to see you going ‘If I see someone tag [ship name] on my post, I’ll kill myself and sue you for it’ or even ‘get off my fucking post, [ship name] fans’ and other heinous sentences. You, dear poster, are invading their ship tag by full-naming the ship name in your tags. Don’t full name the fandom ship tag when you rant about it.
E.g. if you dislike castiel but you want to rant about it in the tags under your post, the alternative here is to change the ship name into c@st!el, or something similar. Do not flood the ship tag with your blatant dislike on the ship where the fans of castiel could see you. They’re in the ship tag to reblog, give likes and have fun, not face people who complain about their ships.
For people who want to see their fav characters and for people who do not want to see this specific character. For whatever reason, that’s their business!
Same as above but with real people.
2. The block button is always your best friend
I have to be very clear that everything you like is something people may not jive with 100%, and that’s okay! You may not 100% like whatever it is people post about too! Which is why the tagging system works, because you can go on happily without bumping into something you don’t like and have been banished into the void.
Compared to other sites, tumblr has the most comprehensive tagging system. Rejoice with the fact that this will make your lives easier and happier.
