indirectly quoting something in my own academic writing: I really don't think I should use even ONE same word lest it counts as plagiarizing. If I HAVE to because there's no good synonym then I WILL directly quote this one word from the source. I WILL use really weird sentence structures and forgo the most common and sensical collocations if the source uses them to avoid accidental plagiarism.

reading academic writing in a field you've read a lot in: I know for a fact this idea is from this other very popular book on this subject why are you not crediting that. Oh this sentence is literally verbatim taken from the book you are currently summarizing with no indication that it's a direct quote. okay. Even though you DO directly quote from it in other instances.

RIP Sam Neill. He was part of my childhood as Alan in Jurassic Park but what I'll always remember him for is this story from Event Horizon:

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.
