y'all really weren't kidding with "the biggest indicator of ralsei being transfem is how hard ppl are angrily trying to disprove it" oh my god the shit i've seen this past week 😭
He sees through Ralsei’s front for sure, but he thinks aggressively fucking with Ralsei is the way to get through to them when all it does is engender bad blood. (Hell, I could write a whole other post about how easy “helping” someone in the early stages of their egg cracking can lead to them withdrawing into denial. It happened to me!)
He thinks he’s giving Asgore his dream life. The biggest thing Flowery does for Asgore is let him feel what Toriel feels whenever he tries to woo her back. And he didn’t even do that intentionally!
Every anime villain speech he makes after the beanstalk climb at the end of the Castle section is wrong.
Flowery claims his friendship is somehow a deeper bond than Kris/Susie/Ralsei have, as if they aren't friends (calling it “companionship” by contrast)
He taunts Kris about being all alone during the final side scrolling section like it's Kris's fault while he's the one who stripped away Kris's support structure by dragging Ralsei off and forcing Susie to Fastball Special Kris to even get them up there.
Then, Flowery's biggest gotcha in the chapter (Why seal our fountain when you could seal Castle Town’s instead) is predicated on a lie:
Castle Town can sustain any Darkner. Meanwhile,
Missable Flowery dialogue after the boss fight indicates he knew the whole time plant-based "neither Darkner nor Lightner" beings cannot survive indefinitely in a Dark World because they need Light to live. Sealing Castle Town's fountain won't solve anything and I'm tired of people thinking Flowery had a valid point by suggesting it.
It’s another in a line of things he says just to get a rise out of the heroes and try to get them to give up. He’s so blinded by his belief he’s creating a perfect if temporary life for Asgore that he won’t even admit it was a lie until Asgore tells him it wasn’t a world he wanted to live in.
Flowery would rather live one glorious omnipotent day and die immediately after than return to being just a flower. He brushed off warnings of the Knight and just as Ralsei predicted, it cleaved him in two.
If he has been forthright, maybe there was a world where Kris and Susie could take all the flowers to Castle Town a few times a week so they could all regain a sense of higher consciousness, “waking up” to new nights in the Dark.
But the way things are, they’re all delicate flowers living on insane amounts of borrowed time without their caretaker to look after them. Kris might have some gardening knowledge just from growing up around Asgore but they can’t do the impossible task their father did: Keeping blooms alive for decades when they were meant to only open for a day and then wilt.
I guess that’s why he’s tragic; his hubris was his downfall. But you can never convince me he was right.
i think one of the smallest, most innocuous things about fanon sans that subtly shifted the way people interpret his character away from canon over time is how people saw this chilled-out lazy guy who sleeps a lot so they obviously drew him with sleepy/sleazy half-lidded eyes all the time
like i said, it's completely innocent! it makes sense too. but personality-wise? i think it takes away from the fact that this man is staring into your soul, unblinking, eyes wide open like some kind of fucked up little owl in like, 99% of his sprites
Not to talk about Spamton twice on the same day but I just learned that if you don’t accept his deal in the first fight with him, he’ll widen himself a couple of times as if he was a puffer fish trying to look intimidating.
