Honestly I think my favorite scenes are every single one of their deleted scenes because that’s where all their juicy emotional stuff is. The angsty as hell conversation outside Columbia (and that the scene is title The Breakup on the blu-ray <33), the alternate portal scene that freaking includes an aborted ILY (GODDDD), like ??? I’m hurt these things weren’t left in the theatrical cut. Maybe I wanted to cry my eyes out in front of a bunch of strangers, you jerks T_T

but I also enjoy every little exchange between them that showcases how long they’ve known each other. “Just your mama! …No, actually, I think the world of your mom.” Erin pinching Abby to get her attention. Abby pointedly nudging Erin’s arm when Erin asks inappropriate interview questions. Good stuff <3

They remembered something word for word, and move for move, that they hadn’t done in what… 20-odd years? Like they weren’t practicing it in their apartments to remember all the good times while they were apart. Gay as heck, remembering your girlfriend and yours first dance together.

I always headcanon that Yatesbert cannot sleep without talking first. Even if it’s like three seconds of “I love you.” “I know.” before Abby drifts off or three hours of theory about something Erin thought about while they were separated. They must always connect mentally before they go to sleep.

I have to admit that my favorite scene is when we first see them together after so many years. Them catching each other’s eyes for a moment. The longing, the need, the hurt, the pain… Ugh, just ugh. My feels. That scene has them.

I think we see some of this kind of thing in the movie anyway (I could be wrong, probably wrong) but … they do this thing where they can have an entire conversation with their eyes. Or they can argue about you, two inches from you, without you even realising (If you’ve seen The Goldbergs, like that.)

Like, so many non-verbal communications. It makes sense given they’ve known each other for so long, but it goes deeper cos they’ve even got their own special like signals and noises and stuff that don’t necessarily make sense; but they know exactly what it means.

My favorite is probably the family I’ve created for Abby (her parents, her siblings). There’s a lot of fun dynamics to play around with between Abby’s relationships with each of them and determining how Erin fits into the picture since they grew up together. I especially love the younger brother I gave Abby and that Erin helped her baby-sit him sometimes. I need to write more Michigan/Yates family stories.

Yatesbert Week Day 1 – “Soulmate” Relationship: Abby Yates/Erin Gilbert Characters: Abby Yates, Erin Gilbert Rating: G Word Count: ~1400

Summary: Abby didn’t dwell much on who her soulmate could be. The agency insisted a person had to be at least twenty five years of age to sign up, and Abby had ages before she’d be twenty five. She chose instead to focus on her cryptid sightings and spectral hauntings, on recording and comparing data in order to prove other areas of the paranormal were as equally valid as soulmates.Then, she met Erin Gilbert.
