The Birthday, Marc Chagall. 1915.
Do y’all have those artworks that you love because someone else loves them? My modern art history professor was really fond of Chagall. I wasn’t that big of a fan, but he adores this painting. “Look at how happy he is,” he explained to us, smiling. The image depicts the artist and his first wife, Bella Rosenfeld. They are literally floating in the painting, carried away by their happiness. The interior is simple, personal, bright, and intimate.
“ Her silence is mine, her eyes mine. It is as if she knows everything about my childhood, my present, my future, as if she can see right through me,” Chagall said of Bella.
How Carl met my Father: Still drinking at 6am and we hear Otto stirring in his bedroom. He's woken up and immediately logs into League of Legends. He usually has all sorts of gamer comrades on Skype. Carl and I like to torment them now and again. He says "ah mate, let's surprise Otto and his little online friends". He then puts on the most horrid dress I own and some lippy and his John Lennon glasses. I wrap myself in a duvet and we barge into Otto's room and I can fucking FEEL something is off as Otto looks at Carl somewhat smug, leaning back in the chair like a Bond villain. Carl walks straight up to the computer screaming "WHAT'S UP FAGGOTS"; the camera is on and everything. I'm there in my duvet and then hear my dad's voice coming from the speakers "good morning daughter" and I just lose my shit and run back to my room, horrified, leaving Carl behind. Carl takes a moment longer to come back and he's all proud of himself, smiling when he enters. "That was my dad" I say; he goes white, falls to the floor, distraught, half breathing "You don't understand what just happened." "What did you dooooo Caaarrrrl!?!" "I lifted my dress. I spun my dick. I full on brave-hearted your dad. I spun my dick at your dad." #meet the #parents , I'm #dating your #daughter , #Mr Skobe , #firstimpressions

Shostakovich and Strings
Shostakovich “String Quartet No. 8 in C Minor (II)” is a ferocious army of strings, my lungs implode when they start marching. Shostakovich - controlled and calm in the midst of wild passions.

Billie Whitelaw, Beckett's “Not I”, 1973, Miraculous
“There was no escape, we killed all the lights, we broke all the rules.”
“When we finished it, Beckett and I sat in a darkened room, and watched it through and when it was over, out of the darkness, just came one word from him: Miraculous!”
The Slavyansky Bazar, Moscow
Well here's a posh little thing: Slavyansky Bazar Restaurant in Moscow, where Stanislavsky and Nemirovich, two giants of the Russian theatre met to discuss the foundations of the “Moscow Art Theatre” in 1897, 22 June. Their meeting went on for 18 hours and the correspondence you can find in “The Moscow Art Theatre Letters” book by Jean Benedetti are colossal. Letters between the founders, the actors, playwrights and writers let you dive in the waters beyond the curtains of the stage.
“Wagner and the Erotic Impulse”
Was reading “Wagner and the Erotic Impulse” by Laurence Dreyfus, and came across a rite plough of reviews and reactions to Wagner's operas from his contemporaries, here's one:
