The Oseberg ship, at the Viking Ship Museum, Oslo, Norway.
Me: I’m scared I might secretly be an awful person and I’m just fooling everyone into thinking I’m good.
Therapist: the fact that you care so deeply about being a bad person is proof that you’re actually good. Bad people don’t mind being bad.
Me: oH NO, I have fooled her too,
this is peak Craigslist
but why do i say “i know” to my pets when they make noises. im lying to them. i don’t know anything.
This is not a tasty gummy sweet but a Jewel Caterpillar found in Amazon Rainforest. They are covered with sticky goo-like, gellatinous tubercles that provides protection from its predator like ants until they metamorphosise into winged moths.
HAVE YOU SEEN IT GROWN UP THOUGH
literal pokemon
have you seen the cocoon it makes though?
it’s so pretty as a baby, it looks like an actual gem. then suddenly it pupates into a net thing and when it comes out it looks like the fucking Lorax
this is a pokemon
acid caterpillar
The net cocoon is actually a bit of evolutionary genius though!
See, it shares its habitat with ants that would happily drag a vulnerable pupae off to become snack food for their hideous hive mind. So the caterpillar builds a long stem leading down from its anchor point. Ants aren’t so good at climbing down such a narrow line, so the pupae is safe.
The net part comes from dealing with rain, which would flow down the stem and waterlog the cocoon. So the cocoon is a net, which allows for drainage and easy drying out afterwards.
Pokemon WISHES it could be as creative as nature

Here’s the link to all of the free online classes offered by Harvard:
https://www.edx.org/school/harvardx
But TBH I prefer the MIT Open Coursewear approach. Feel like taking a class on the policy and economics of nuclear engineering? MIT’s got you covered:
https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/find-by-topic/#cat=engineering&subcat=nuclearengineering&spec=nuclearsystemspolicyandeconomics
In fact they’ve got you covered with A LOT of their courses, everything from fine arts to immunology.
Have fun :)
WHERE HAS THIS BEEN THE LAST TWO YEARS
heres that pic of a small bat eating a slice of watermelon again bc looking at it makes me feel a tiny bit better:
This is the beautiful “Oak Parlour” of Crewe Hall, built in around 1170 but remodelled over the years.
The fireplace dates to around 1598.
The carving is exquisite but actually hides a little secret. Although the church was in control people still believed in the old Celtic gods. The artist added in pride of place two carvings of the “Green Man” to bless the room.
Between them was placed what is thought to be a representation of the god Bacchus (Dionysus). This disgorging green man was first seen in France in the 4th Century.
The Servents still stuck to their pagan roots and believed that rubbing the nose of the carvings in passing would bring you good luck.
The left for wealth
The right for good health
As you can see most were more interested in wealth as the green mans nose has almost been worn away. Imagine the intent impowered in these carvings by the desperate pleas of thousands of people over the years.
Interesting fact: There was a terrible fire in the hall in 1866 the wood work in this room was the only area to survive.

Male and female brains aren’t wired differently
New research, published in October in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, concluded that despite size discrepancy, there’s no functional difference between men’s and women’s brains. “Male” brains and “female” brains simply don’t exist. In fact, there’s significant overlap.
This study had 1400 people in it… Remember that sample size matters. remember this when someone tries to rebuke this with a study that has 80 participants. Be as scientifically literate as possible so that we can debunk this nonsense one step at a time.
Here’s an article that talks about a paper which examined 6000 individuals and came up with similar findings.

no offense but after thousands of years of evolution… why can’t I breathe underwater, fly, or be motivated for more than 2 days at a time

Crash-test dummies based on the ‘average’ male are just one example of design that forgets about women – and puts lives at risk
In 2018, Astrid Linder, research director of traffic safety at the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute, presented a paper at the Road Safety on Five Continents Conference in South Korea, in which she ran through EU regulatory crash-test requirements. In no test is an anthropometrically correct female crash-test dummy required. The seatbelt test, one of the frontal-collision tests, and both lateral-collision tests all specify that a 50th-percentile male dummy should be used. There is one EU regulatory test that requires what is called a 5th-percentile female dummy, which is meant to represent the female population. Only 5% of women will be shorter than this dummy. But there are a number of data gaps. For a start, this dummy is only tested in the passenger seat, so we have no data at all for how a female driver would be affected – something of an issue you would think, given women’s “out of position” driving style. And secondly, this female dummy is not really female. It is just a scaled-down male dummy.
