Getting Stronger
What a great day at the gym! I’ve been going these past few days after a pep talk from my husband. Despite my lack of healthy eating, I’m stilling getting in some work. My foot is still injured so it’s been a lot of arm days spaced out properly, ab work, and butt work without putting too much pressure on my foot. Today I claimed some gains!
My lat pull down went from a 50lb to a 65lb for 20 reps. My double handed row is now 55lb 15-20 reps. I don’t recall the weight I used to use.
What is most awesome for me is this:
When I first started going to the gym back in Sept I could only do 3 crunches on this thing. Today I banged out 10 no problem! This shows that the strength in my triceps, lats, and delts have grown because you use these muscles hold you in position while doing the crunches and leg swings. I never had an issue with the ab portion of this exercise.
I’m so excited and empowered! Hard work does pay off!

Let’s Get Real
Well my injury has really gotten me depressed. I haven’t been to the gym in a week. It’s all happening along with Halloween candy and my daughter’s first birthday cake(s). Not to mention my stove/oven has been broken so I’ve been ordering take out. So I’m very easily eating my feelings.
I know that there are some things I could be doing at the gym but if I can’t go hard, I don’t want to go at all. I realize how counter productive this is. But when you are in a depressed state, excuses are SUPER easy to justify.

Sometimes I don’t want to work out and not because I need the rest. Some days I just don’t feel like getting out the door, packing up the baby, driving to the gym, getting dressed, and hitting it hard enough to justify all the effort it took to get me there.
I make a weekly schedule so that I can’t decide on a day to day basis if I am going to the gym any particular day. Like going to the store with a grocery list - I stick to my workout schedule. Doing this also helps me not feel guilty on days that I have scheduled a rest day.
When it is a workout day, I will still occasionally have the conversation depicted in this picture with myself. Most of the time I just stop thinking about it and go. Getting there is the hard part.

Mocha Protein Shake
My gym has a smoothie bar and they make the most amazing mocha protein shake. It’s thick and creamy. It makes me feel like I’m drinking ice cream. I don’t like dropping the money every time I need one though. Since I have protein powder at home, I needed to find a way to replicate it. And I have.
Tastes like a milkshake ya’ll!
1c strong (in flavor) coffee
30g peanut butter powder
30g protein powder (recommend chocolate or mocha)
110g frozen banana
85g greek yogurt
Sometimes I’ll do a 1/2c of coffee with a 1/2c chocolate almond milk. For more of a mocha flavor you could switch the peanut butter powder for more mocha protein powder. I just love the taste of peanut butter with everything so I add it to every shake I make.
