Do you think there were moments, early on, when Robin would do something so childlike on patrol (nothing wrong, just small things) that it would suddenly hit Bruce ? The way he’d rub his eyes when he was tired, or how his lip would tremble for just a second after scraping his knee before quickly powering through it. How he’d hum to himself while waiting on a rooftop, swing his legs when he thought Bruce wasn’t looking, or get excited pointing out constellations in the Gotham sky like it wasn’t the same polluted mess as always.

So for a split second, the mission wouldn’t matter anymore. Bruce would just turn around and say, “We’re going home,” leaving Dick confused, tugging at his cape like, “What ? But we just got here.”

On those nights, Bruce would overcompensate by getting Dick’s favorite dessert, letting him stay up late to watch movies, or taking him to the amusement park the next day. It was his subtle way of making up for what he’d almost forgotten : that before he was Robin, Dick was still a child who deserved to be one.

I desperately need an AU where no one tells Damian he's Bruce's son.

They all assume that he already knows, because he always gets called The Son of The Bat, but Damian ends up thinking he's Jason's son. Why? Because Jason is the only other one around the league who has a bat print on their shirt.

Who always keeps wanting to have custody battles with Talia? Jason. Who guards him around? Jason. Who is literally always around, except for Talia? Jason.

When he does end up needing to go to Gotham, Damian probably just assumes he needs to go to his other, slightly better (Jason's words), grandfather for training just like with Ra's. Jason did, somehow, along the way feed into this, making jokes that he doesn't know Damian actually believed.

So obviously, when Jason leaves him on the porch Pre Red Hood identity reveal, the first thing that comes out of Damian's mouth when he first met Bruce was:

Damian: I am the Red Hood's son.

Bruce:

Dick:

Dick: Okay, so I wasn't expecting that..

Damian: I was sent by my mother, Talia Al Ghul to train under you.

Dick: Huh. Okay, so I did expect that. Slightly.

They only test Damian for Talia's blood, and bada bing bada boom, he's hers. Bruce tries to call up Talia for this, and she only laughs on the other line. They do still keep Damian around, reluctantly training him for Robin. Dick was only glad Talia had moved on her "beloved".

Later, after Jason's identity reveal, Bruce revels in being a grandfather only for him to look confused and go:

Jason: What do you mean you're a grandfather? No offense, but Dickie doesn't seem like the type to have kids. Same with Tim. Doesn't seem like a Teen dad to me.

Bruce, slightly concerned: What about Damian?

Jason: What about him?

Dick: Isn't he your son?

Jason: ..No? He's Bruce's. Why would you think I sent him- Oh.

In short, Damian has the hardest revelation of his life later in the batcave as they try another DNA test. Jason is laughing hard in the corner, hardly breathing

Tim: You know we actually found you in a sewer, right?

Damian: …what did you just say, Drake?

Tim: You heard me. Back then you were this slimy little tadpole. No arms, no legs , just vibes. Dick scooped you up in a bucket because, well... Jason wanted a pet.

Damian (on the verge of tears): Then… then how did I end up like this?

Tim (sighing dramatically): We may have, uh… injected you with some of Bruce’s DNA. Science, mutation, yada yada.

Damian suddenly bolts toward Bruce’s room.

The sounds that followed were Damian’s muffled sobs and Bruce’s voice filling the room with words like,

“No, Tim’s talking nonsense! You’re my son , You’re definitely not from a sewer.

Dick (staring at Tim): He’s nine, Tim. Nine.

Tim smirks: Yeah yeah . But Always wanted a little sibling I could traumatize with that one.

The potential candidates of the Prospective Step Mom Pool overhear about the kids and their whiteboard antics and flattered as they are, it does lead to the question of any prospective step fathers Bruce might bring home and into the kids' lives. There is some event where the prospective step moms drop by to the Manor and they get together with said whiteboard, markers and cocktails.

Diana: You can't seriously be suggesting that Bruce would consider-

Selina: Please, you didn't see Harvey in his day. Bruce used to have to go change his cowl he was drooling over him so much.

Diana: He's not even on the list

Selina: You weren't there. Bruce had more sexual tension Harvey than we did half the time.

Talia: No, I agree with the Amazon. It has to be the Kryptonian. Strong enough to protect the children if needed and to carry them if injured. Also, acceptable arm candy as both civilian and hero.

Lois: I second that

John Constantine: That's your husband.

Lois: boooo

Talia: Why are you even here, hell demon?

John Constantine: Hey, I'm the only one who cared enough to show up to this meeting and this is the thanks I get?

Lois: We didn't actually-

Zatanna: I did.

Talia: And how would you make a good husband to my beloved? How would you benefit the children?

John Constantine: I would treasure Bats. But the kids? I'll admit, they are straight off the furthest boarding school at the earliest opportunity.

Selina, motioning between Zatanna and John: Aren't you two...?

John: We really like Batsy's vibe.

Diana: So do Lois and Clark but that's not a factor.

Dinah: So that's me and Oliver put then?

Lois, swearing under her breath: *marking the results on the board*

Harley, sipping on a pins colada: I notice nobody had brought up the obvious here. What about Jim Gordon? He's good with the kids and isn't he Bruce's type? Rugged, moody, sexy but in a very dad like way?

Babs, listening over comms:

Bruce would probably have such an insane time with modern day conspiracy theorists and true crime detectives and not just as Batman but as Bruce Wayne, lone survivor and witness of the Wayne Murders. He ignores most of it, requests to be on podcasts, letters asking for details of the crime but he can't really escape randoms on the street trying to catch him unawares.

Random True Crime Tiktoker: Mr Wayne, why have you been lying about your parents' murders?

Bruce, stood in line with Dick to get ice cream for the kids: No comment.

Random True Crime Tiktoker, shoving comically small microphone into his face: You killed them, didn't you, Bruce?

Bruce, who's never actually heard that one before: What the hell?

Random True Crime Tiktoker, turns to "followers": We've all seen the evidence. Bruce Wayne, at 8 years old was tall enough to have shot both Martha and Thomas Wayne. The wounds are consistent.

Bruce: Are you fucking high?

Random True Crime Tiktoker: Was it true they were abusing you or did you do it for that massive inheritance you-

Dick: *punches the guy*

Damian: "Kent."

Jon: "Yeah?"

Damian: "Take a bite out of that railing and I'll name my firstborn after you."

Jon:

Jon: "Fine, but only because Jonathan Wayne's got a nice ring to it."

Dick: [walks in, hearing only that.]

Dick: "Pause. What??"

Jon and Damian: [looks at each other] ?

Jon: "wAIT- No it's not-"

Damian: "We were just betting on our children!?"

Dick:

Bruce: *picks up*

Dick: "So another Kent's joining the family-"

Steph has a make up channel where she discusses social issues, Gotham society and politics while she tries out palettes or special effects make up. Occasionally the other Bats will join as their civilian indentity, mainly as guests to discuss stuff while she does make up. Cass and Babs have semi permanent seats at the table. Dick was allowed on once but after some thirsty comments, Steph has him banned. Same thing with Bruce. Damian goes viral for his cute little reaction when Steph did his Halloween makeup, he was a tiger. Duke is a favourite guest especially when it's talking about life in Gotham and how the city gets screwed over. Tim's conspiracy theories make him a fan favourite.

But the main reason that Steph's channel has a healthy following? Sometimes you can see a Bat the window behind her, usually Batgirl, sometimes Nightwing doing done trick, once even that time crime lord Red Hood showed up with Batburger and a pint of Häagen-Dazs, saw the camera and just backed out of the shot. Red Robin can often be seen climbing in her window mid sentence in the middle of a live stream or that time that little Robin appeared with a kitten that she just "has to hide Howard" before his father sees him.

The Bats are human, that's fairly well established in vigilante and metahuman circles but they do tend to have... Bat-like qualities that just can't be explained.

Dick can be found time to time dangling upside down from training equipment, like nets and bars and he has been caught by the Justice League and Titans dozing in that position.

Jason loves fresh fruit and will snack on it if offered. Mangoes, guava, apples, oranges, strawberries. Pretty much place any sort of fruit in front of him and he's munching on it. "Fruit bat," Starfire tells Arsenal one day while they watch him go to town on a fruit basket.

Batgirl is famous for just popping up in the dark, usually adding to conversations she could not have fucking heard, only to shrug and be like "I have sensitive hearing".

The little Robin? When he starts throwing batarangs, he never misses. When Batman gets asked about his training, he just always looks so annoyed and just answers, "he's using sonar obviously."

And of course, you never see Batman during the day, do you? And if you do, he's squinting and scowling like he's really out of his comfort zone. The entire Justice League can attest to that and the Titans are never surprised that when they go looking for a particular Robin that they will be tucked safely under the cape, avoiding the sun.

And then there are the times that one of the Titans try to eavesdrop on Bat conversations only to hear them... are they chirping?

Clark: What are you kids doing?

Gar: shhhh, listen to this shit

Clark: Language

Kon: No, Clark. Listen to them.

Bruce: *chirps, clicks*

Tim: *questioning-sounding clicks*

Damian: *condescending chirps*

Steph: *clickings*

Jason: *sarcastic chrips*

Dick: *horrified clicks and chirps*

Duke: *worried chirps*

Bruce: *angry click click chirps*

Clark: I don't - I don't know what they're saying.

Jon: They're speaking bat.

Clark: Jon, they aren't actually - wait, Gar can't you-

Gar: Nope. Tried every species.

Kon: Fucking mystery.

Cass: *lying on the rafter above them recording their reactions because the Bats are so fucking with them*

Maddie: Honey? What is this? Why did you order so many custom pins of... what is that? Batman?

Danny: Well it started off as a joke but now....now I'm in too deep

Jack: How many pins do you have?

Danny: Um about 800? I have 50 Batman theme ones, 50 Red Robin, 50 Nightwing, 50 Robin, 50 Red Hood, 50 Spoiler, 50 Batgirl and 50 Signal. Not to mention the other 400 of Phantom.

Maddie: What was the joke? Bankruptcy?

Danny: Orginally it was a joke with Sam and Tucker that I was going to design and order Phantom theme pins-

Jack: Phantom as in the ghost boy? Why!?

Danny: He's hot and I may be a Fenton but I'm also a son of the Walker bloodline. We do anything for the men we find hot.

Maddie suddenly proud of her maiden name: Good argument. Go on.

Danny: So I doddled the designs, sent them to a company for a qoute to show Tucker and Sam. I accidentally included the Bats doddles on the same page. Which they thought was part of the order. I sort of forgot about it after having a laugh only the other day I realized my order went through and I couldn't canceled it and now.....now I have 800 pins.

Jazz: What are you going to do with them all?

Danny: Hand them out at school? I dont know! It was supposed to be a joke!

Jazz: My college is having a art fair in two weeks. I can ask if you can sell them there if you want?

Danny: You think people would buy them?

Jack going through the boxes: I think so. I dont even like the ghost boy but Danny these are so well design. I may stick them on my lab lanyard. Oh this one has glitter!

Jazz: And what better place to sell Batman theme stuff then Gotham U?

Danny: well okay. If anything I may get rid of the Bats stuff.

Two weeks later:

Tim: Is that Danny Phantom?!

Danny: Um yeah. Im suprise you recognize a hero from the middle of no-

Tim slamming wad of cash on table: I'll take the entire inventory.

Danny: Well there rest are just copies of the same five pins-

Tim breathing heavily with dilated eyes: I dOn'T CaRe. I WaNt D A N N Y P H A N T O M.

Danny: Okay let me just bag these boxes for you *leaning in to whisper into Jazz ear* Keep that guy away from me.

Damian and Jason have been playing a game of hot potato with being Ra's main heir because neither of them can be fucked to deal with the league responsibilities and then they get to Gotham and find out that the 'detective' nickname has been passed on from Bruce to Tim because Ra's likes Tim for some reason and they both perk up like rival stunt men about to team up to commit insurance fraud.

Tim: dude im so scared to tell Damian that i worked with his grandfather for a little bit. did you see how mad he was when he thought i'd stolen his 'birthright' by being Robin? he might kill me!

Dick: maybe we can find a way to break the news to him gently...

meanwhile, Damian, on the phone to Jason: THAT SUCKER. HE'S GOTTEN GRANDFATHER'S FAVOUR. WE'RE FREE.

Jason: FUCKING FINALLY-

Damian: WAR IS OVER TODD, NO MORE LEAGUE MEETINGS. WE FINALLY DISAPPOINTED HIM ENOUGH THAT HE'S MOVED ON TO A NEW TARGET.

Jason: this is the biggest accomplishment of our lives.

Damian: i truly can't comprehend how we lasted this long in the runnings anyway, but thank god it's over.

Jason: does Tim know what he's in for? did you tell him Ra's will be gunning for him now?

Damian: what am i, a nice person? of course not.

Jason: atta boy.
