How hard was it to make that decision to have Clarke kill Bellamy to save Madi only to have something so tragic happened to Madi?

ROTHENBERG: How hard? It wasn’t hard. On some level, it obviously is heartbreaking and heightens the futility of violence and death, which the show is always trying to do. We were always trying to tell the story as emotionally as we possibly could. And so, hard is not the word I would. We just never pulled any punches creatively on this show, for better or worse.

it’s sending me how s3 revolved around defeating ALIE so that they wouldn’t all be uploaded into an emotionless, painless utopia and then the show ends with them all accepting that they will transcend into “higher beings” with no pain and it’s supposed to be a good thing

I think the difference is: one utopia is man-made, the other is sort of cosmic justice. Also, the other would have whipped the humans out and that was somehow a bad thing

#he wasn't ooc or inconsistent or a bad character in ANY of book 2 #his beliefs and behaviours in s3 were in line with his beliefs and behaviours in s1-2 #making friends with ONE grounder who even himself was against the actions of his own ppl and was drifting into being skaikru #was never enough to change it #i resent the way they wrote s3 - i dislike that gina's loss was emphasised where it didn't need to be #and how fandom took it and used it to reduce his entire arc #but it is what it is #seeing the grounders equally as powerless and vulnerable in mw was sobering and an understanding was reached #but then lexa betrayed them and saved ONLY grounders & forced him to kill everyone who helped him or at least let clarke #and it was right back to the grounders being an overbearing threatening presence

ALSO: he was betrayed by Lincoln, who was supposed to be his friend and have his back, which led to a traumatic situation and him having to commit mass murder for the first time. Rationally speaking he understands why Lincoln did it, but it only adds to the trauma and the belief that grounders = enemy

europeans act as if muslims are invading their countries and trying to make them muslim…bitch have you ever seen a muslim missionary? yeah that’s because they don’t exist. muslims aren’t supposed to try to convert people fkldfjasldf. white christians sure are trying to convert people, though!

colonialism is a part of too many white peoples’ identities on a level they don’t even understand…like a subconscious level. case in point: they don’t understand that someone might immigrate because they need a place to go or because they simply want to live somewhere else. conquest is the only reason for going to a “foreign” country that they are capable of conceptualizing. it’s so deeply ingrained that you see liberal white americans going “we are all immigrants!” as a counter to people on the right saying that immigrants need to leave the country…like no, the majority of white americans did not come here as immigrants, their ancestors came as colonizers. the majority of black americans did not come here as immigrants, their ancestors were kidnapped. native americans are not immigrants, they are native. immigration and colonization are not the same thing! not even a little bit!
