"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s
“When we were kids, the Phonics Wizard came to our town to show off how the letter E can change the sounds of vowels. He turned a can into a cane, a pin into a pine. This one kid had a cap and he changed it into a cape, that kind of thing.
“And we loved it, we were all having a great time, but then he saw my sister and I, and he just got this - this look in his eyes, and then-”
She hesitated, worrying the coarse material between her fingers. “Things got pretty bad after that,” she muttered. “I know it’s silly, but I try to keep - her - comfortable. We don’t know if she can still hear us, or see us, or if she’s even still in here, but I like to think she is. I talk to her when I can, I leave music on when I’m out of the house. I tried to convince my parents to bring her with us when we went to Disneyland, but they didn’t - didn’t really take that well.”
After a moment, she put the ball of twine back onto its pillow. “Anyways. They tried to arrest the Phonics Wizard, but he had a plan in case something went wrong and he turned it into a plane and flew away.”
there is nothing a corporation hates more than having employees, but a close second is having to provide a good or service in order to make money. these two reasons concisely explain is why the ai bubble formed in the first place.

image 1: tome and mob sit on a bench as biyoo floats nearby.
tome, pointing: that guy has to be psychic!
mob: I don’t think he is
biyoo, shaking her head: baat…
image 2: tome and biyoo float in space together in astronaut gear. Tome looks shocked. Since biyoo is in puffball form, she’s wearing just the helmet of the suit. End ID]
@demonlikejudgeoffire combined the biyoo or someone in mp100 request and put biyoo in mp100

Do it scared but please don't do it hungry. Please don't do it dehydrated. It's gonna make it so much scarier. Please.
wearing two cursed amulets to manipulate them into competing with each other for ownership of my soul and unintentionally improving my life in their attempts to seduce me
hiring two duplicitous advisors with opposing agendas to manipulate them into hatefucking each other in front of me while i fujo out about it
it's not a "love triangle" it's a business opportunity with benefits
For disability pride, think I want to focus on this one thing that been bothering me
Been very frustrated lately by lack of phone call accessibility as someone who lacks speech but needs a lot of resources to stay healthy.
With rise of AI, it's only getting worse and worse.
More places changing their systems to incorporate AI answering machines.
Thing is...
Whenever I hear most people ranting about this change, it's usually about how annoying it is from an abled-person perspective or environmental or ethical impact.
Which are important valid reasons to be upset. I share those sentiments too.
But feel like disability is once again forgotten about within important discussion about change.
AI creates terrible language accessibility issues.
In fact, that's why it so annoying to deal with it.
In the past, if a place didn't have a call center or desk person to answer calls, they use extentions.
That meant you had to press a few numbers to get the right person.
Now with AI, you're expected to have a full conversation with a robot.
Tell them why you're calling, who you need to speak to, verify your info so the humans don't have to later, etc.
These bots can be bad at understanding what able-people are saying, so imagine how they handle these disabled callers:
People who use AAC (speech aids/devices)
People who slur, stutter, have "strange" voice or pronunciation
People with rapid or disorganized speech
People who use poor grammar & who don't speak full words or sentences
People who mix up similar common words
People with "deaf accent"
(i don't know if there is a different preferred term for this. Im sorry if I sound offensive. Please Lmk)
People with non-communicative speech such as vocal tics, echolalia, or babbling
Anyone who uses speech or language in a way that needs a human mind to interpret
Anyone whose voice sounds notably different
Ability to understand what AI is saying can be harder too:
d/Deaf people and other hearing differences
Auditory processing disorder
Receptive language disorder
Developmental disability, especially intellectual and learning disabilities
(AI can't help people who need things explained a certain way. AI unreliable and fails to adapt a lot.)
Anyone who frequently can't make out sounds and/or speech
Anyone who frequently has trouble with meanings in conversation
The problems I often face with AI answering machines (and that I'm sure many other disabled people have faced as well):
AI slightly mishearing me/my device
AI mishearing so badly that it basically makes up a fake conversation
AI not hearing me/my device at all
AI registering tics and stims as answers
AI "explaining" an instruction by repeating the same instruction again word-for-word
AI directing me to the wrong person without trying to confirm what I said
AI sometimes just... hanging up on me right after I speak my first answer...
These are the machines being put in front of
hospitals
doctors offices
mental health centers
pharmacies
transportation and in-home care
health insurance member services
medical supply companies
government resource agencies
non-profit organizations
advocacy groups
justice centers & other legal resources
customer service lines
many other places disabled people often need to access from home
It's another example of some of the most vulnerable being pushed away from the things we need, and we're also being forgotten in these discussions about things that can affect us a lot
Next time someone is ranting about AI job interviewers, please also remember:
the AI pharmacy assistants that make it impossible for someone with a speech disorder to sort out their meds
the AI scheduler that won't allow a D/deaf person to access the right extension of the clinic to set up an appointment
the AI agent that confuses an intellectually disabled person into anger and tears
the AI answerer that hangs up on a mentally ill person seeking help in crisis because they aren't speaking coherently enough
Human beings need to be at the forefront of human resources and issues for disabled people especially. Please remember us. Please fight.
Happy disability pride ♡
actually tho for people who have spent their whole lives disabled they are often put into the category of "person who cannot and will not achieve anything ever in their lives" including getting qualifications from education or being employed. it's a form of ableism we don't really discuss a lot because a lot of disabled persons are being asked to push themselves through their difficulties to function on the same level as their abled peers but it is not in any way easier being someone that everyone has given up on. who doesn't get encouragement growing up, never given goals to reach, never asked for their dreams or aspirations because everyone assumes they are incapable of achievement. i feel like the disability inspiration porn comes from this group of disabled people when they manage to do anything because the abled perception of someone who has crossed the disability event horizon into "too disabled" is someone who is "useless". and encouraging people or believing in them isn't necessarily the same as pressuring them to push past their limits. and some disabled people won't manage to finish schooling or get a job or be in a relationship or do something independently, but they still deserve to try and still deserve to have someone believing in them. even if abled metrics of success are nonsensical, failing to meet them still gets you exposed to negatives attitudes, and it can still make you feel like crap
driven mad by how patients with severe ME are so rarely warned or protected from some of the most obvious consequences of ME bc doctors just don’t gaf about us. so here’s an awareness post. side effects of ME to look out for:
pressure sores from being in bed all day - to prevent these, change position minimum every 2hrs if possible, and use pillows to support your positions (find visual examples online). you’re especially at risk of pressure sores if you use continence products, so make sure to use a barrier cream and change as soon as possible when soiled.
contractures, especially in the ankles, from being immobile in bed - these can be minimised by doing ankle flexibility exercises, but ONLY if that would be within your energy envelope. otherwise just try to vary your ankle/foot positions. support with pillows if needed.
tinnitus and ear infections from having to wear earplugs so much - i have no advice for this
vitamin d deficiency from being indoors in the dark all the time - supplements and foods rich in vit d can help.
deep vein thrombosis aka blood clots in the legs from immobility - this is uncommon but it’s an emergency if it ever occurs. compression socks can reduce your risk if you can tolerate wearing them, and movement also helps lower the risk, but again, only within your energy envelope.
muscle atrophy - your legs and arms may start to look like sticks after becoming bedbound. unfortunately, as long as exercise is unsafe for you, this is impossible to fix, so it’s something we have to accept, as pushing ourselves is much more dangerous than deconditioning.
vit and mineral deficiencies from dietary restrictions - opt for a healthy diet, supplementation, and regular blood tests to stay on top of deficiencies
dehydration from being unable to sit up to drink - there are sporty contraptions meant for backpackers that let you drink lying down. some water bottles with sports caps also work, i use refilled lucozade bottles for all my water. if you’re too weak to swallow for longer than a day, it’s time to call a doc to see if they can give iv hydration.
dehydration from sleeping a very long time - if you sleep 16+ hours, especially if it happens regularly, you’re probably waking up dehydrated. try to drink water when you wake.
post over!
I will shout about pressure sore risk from! The! Rooftops!! A red spot that doesn’t fade is a grade 1 pressure sore!!!
I'm very thin/ atrophied myself, and that definitely puts you at a greater risk. Aside from repositioning/ having a caregiver reposition you at least every two hours, there is also an aid called an alternating pressure mattress that I personally use. It's a little air mattress that you put on top of your regular mattress that attaches to an electric pump. Mine was about fifty US dollars. It has little air bubbles/ pocket things within it. The air pockets inflate and deflate, alternating between which row, every five minutes or so. My dad calls it my breathing bed for this reason, heh. This helps your weight from settling in one place and therefore keeps pressure sores at bay! I didn't explain it super super well, but EquipMeOT sure does.
Positioning pillows are also fabulous :) I'm a pregnancy pillow person myself but use what works best for you !
Hi I’m posting this to show you what the start of a pressure sore can look like, as someone with severe ME. Obviously I am very pale so this won’t be the same on everyone. This was when I was severe-very severe and could only tolerate one position in my bed. Had I not noticed why my elbow was hurting so badly, it could’ve been much worse.
it’s never a normal temperature anymore it’s always some fucking bullshit
bonus
Skills wise, I’d be very good at being unemployed if anyone’s hiring for that
some people treat romantic love like it’s the only meaningful thing life has to offer and that’s so weird to me.. there’s so much more out there
I'm not saying it's not important etc etc but to treat it like it's the ultimate purpose of life is just very sad to me idk
and i would've gotten away with it if it weren't for you meddling... monsters???
