one of the many things that the PHM movie gets right as an adaptation that a lot of movies don’t is that it understands that movies and books are different mediums that tell stories in different ways. There are things in movies that just can’t work in books, and vice versa.

The PHM book and movie are both good for different reasons. Theyre the same story, but the movie truly feels like a creature of its own, it feels like a movie telling a story, not like a retelling of a book that told a story. The microcosm of this is the karaoke scene in the movie. It’s quite possibly one of my favorite parts of the movie, and it has no analogue in the book. It was created for the movie because movies are audio/visual storytelling. The book leans into the plot, the science, the characters. Things a book can portray very well. However, the movie isn’t as scientifically dense, and instead leans into the visual grandeur and spectacle, the music, color language.

in conclusion, Project Hail Mary book and movie both very good 👎👎👎

I love remile and instead of the human or side version of the characters what if Emile is the personification of a concept? Like maybe Emile is the concept of therapy to c!Thomas because he hadn't actually been because of how expensive it is (I have no idea if this is true for IRL Thomas but for c! Thomas it is for this) so he created a therapist based on what style may work for Thomas (which is cartoon references and being assigned a kin to help understand himself) and using the knowledge that he knows about psychology and the episodes of cartoon therapy is just imaginary scenes that Thomas made up. Just two concepts against the world.

My revelation from earlier: i think dream smp is like. The opposite of slop. I think everyone's definition of slop is different but to me its media that doesn't stimulate any cognitive parts of the brain and is entertaining in the same way as a baby sensory video. Just shapes and colours and buzzwords. And that makes me infuriated that ive heard the dream smp called slop because the dream smp is the most gutwrenchingly beautiful story with the worst viewing experience known to man. Its a multiple-hundred-hour Minecraft roleplay thats functionally impossible to watch. The acting is amateur. The storytelling is clunky. The medium is unconventional and difficult to make immersing. The canon is inconsistent. The lines determining what IS canon are blurry at best. The writers and actors and designers and artists are a bunch of improv-ers who barely cooperate with each other. The plot is so good it will ruin your life. Its bad in every way except the way that matters, and the worst thing about it is that its good. That's why everyone who loves the dream smp talks about it like its the worst thing thats ever happened to them. Its the opposite of shapes and colours and no substance. Its all substance.
