really fucks me up that a biracial black man who grew up in the suburbs of chicagoland enjoying both dancehall and hardcore music created art that he specifically exclusively and repeatedly describes as being "for kids who feel like they dont fit in anywhere" only for him to be whitewashed for 15 years. really makes ya think.

@hazyskies genuinely floored by how succinctly and accurately youve characterized this issue. yes, youre completely right. the reason this happened is because people had an out to ignore the blackness in fall out boy, and the fact that they couldnt with gym class heroes is exactly why they experienced so much vitriol and abuse. this obviously isnt exclusive to fall out boy, if white people can make bipoc (and black people specifically) out to be "one of the good ones" and distance them from their blackness in any way, they will. even that idiot in my comments who insisted poly fucking styrene didnt talk about race as much as i do, if they can ignore the fact that the artist is black, they will, and if they cant, they will just ignore the artist (or worse).

even now its difficult to articulate the fact that everything pete writes is black, like inherently so. the conversations about fall out boys music are not led by black people, so this dimension gets completely overlooked, and when black people speak on it, it often goes unseen, albeit unintentionally. everything he does is influenced by his race, and its fine if you (as in the white fanbase broadly) dont see that but its important to be aware that people arent reading too much into it. its just another one of those references you cant get. its not something you can just by the way, it genuinely affects his life and has shaped who he is, and it frustrates me to no end that people tend not to acknowledge that.

actually i think we need to move past new album tinhatting and instead start new album gaslighting. start replying to franks tweets with ‘sooooo excited for the new mcr album next month’ and flooding mikeys ig comments with ‘the bass on the leaked snippet of the new mcr album sounds SO cool im hype’ and when ray comes online to bully republicans be like ‘wow king this is why we’ve all preordered the new mcr album love you’ and when gerard posts random photos with incomprehenible captions we can reply like ‘wait is this a lyrical parallel to the new single? this was so well planned WOW’. i think we can do it. i think we can trick them into having to release an album by making them think they already told us about one. its possible.
