like is it me and my distaste for nicolas winding refn or is it weird that the characters in his latest movie are elle (elle fanning was the star of the neon demon) and private K (ryan gosling starred in drive and only god forgives and his character in blade runner 2049 was named K)? like the elle one is weirder to me but it still just seems really specific unless there’s some other meaning that I don’t know about since I haven’t seen the movie. idk I developed a distaste for him after watching the neon demon because I think it took “beauty isn’t everything it’s the only thing” far too much to heart and I also kind of think he’s weird about writing women so maybe I’m just being unnecessarily conspiratorial but it seems odd.

#drive is safe because I watched it first #but once you watch a second one the tricks wear thin pretty fast #the stilted dialogue feels like a choice in drive. by the time you get to neon demon it’s like oh. no you just write like this #I don’t mind stylized dialogue when it’s good! it can be a little off from how people actually talk if it works!#and I also just like didn’t think it said anything particularly new or interesting yknow #this is highly disorganized but I noticed the name thing and was like. huh. that’s weird.
