imagine being a non white british actor who gets cast in an adaptation of a foundational piece of vampire IP except its rewritten to actually delve into racism and homophobia and xenophobia etc and your show is a huge success and critically acclaimed in large part due to YOUR fantastic performances but then when s3 rolls around the shows white creators decide to completely rewrite most of your characters in a way which will make their now white lead look better and it is so bad and so racist even said white coworker is uncomfortable with it but now you need to do a press tour talking about how great the season is to everyone. congratulations now you've imagined what jacob anderson delainey hayes and assad zaman feel

i think despite all the atrocities that get attributed to armand with no nuance by other characters he still gets underestimated regularly which doesn't make sense to me. like they're really out there mocking him and playing in his face like schoolchildren girl he can take you x50

It’s not the content, it’s the fact that it didn’t make any sense. It came out of left field with zero set up. What do you mean Armand was still hung up on Louis, making amends at all, needing closure from Louis so they “can both move on with their lives” (he already has with Daniel, his new companion he is in love with, as far as we had been shown)?? What do you mean he did all this other stuff like breaking up Lestat’s band for fun when it didn’t look fun for him nor did that affect Louis in the slightest? What do you mean he started setting up the Regina thing three years prior but we don’t get shown the details, told the full details, or a real explanation of why that would help him achieve his goal in this moment? There wasn’t anything establishing this stuff so it made sense for that scene to happen, nothing that panned out during in a way that made sense. Im here for dark unhinged Armand stuff and if they were going this route then let’s do it, I’m here for it, but JFC make it work. It could’ve been soooooo good if it had been written differently; both the scene itself to give Louis words meaning instead of them being forced at the last second, and the entire plot involving Armand to hint that this was something he might want or care about.

so they changed armands race not to say anything about the character or his history but PURELY to write him as a complete villain who abuses black characters and who effectively draws blame away from the white lead

i just cant get past it. they cast a brown actor not to do anything with his backstory* as a kid trafficked into europe for sexual exploitation, but simply to make him an over the top bad guy who seems to have gotten worse over the last 2 centuries instead of making any progress

they cast black actors as two main characters just to have one of them be subjected to extreme physical tortures that never happened in the books, and to make the other a lying manipulator who doesnt matter beyond her abuse serving other characters' stories

they set themselves up as the Thoughtful Nuance Show and then gave us this? they pretended they were taking these. characters seriously and then butchered them on multiple levels, undid all their own work, bait and switched their devoted and engaged fans, and for what? tiktok jokes?

* and yes they bring back him being severely abused as a child just for a lazy 'thats why hes like that' which is all they seem able to do now. ramp up the the abusiveness of the characters and then say 'oh theyre all bad people because they were raped' like thats the pinnacle of emotional insight. gtfo

Armand is the main villain for a very specific reason - they can't afford to introduce another villain at the moment. It would require too many resources and introducing + establishing a new character when they don't even know if they'll get another season.

I do believe you're right about them not having enough resources, anon. But I'm afraid it's not an excuse. If anything, they really shouldn't have done this to Armand because they might not even get another season. Why on earth would you potentially end your entire show with such a huge "FUCK YOU" to all the many fans of such a beloved character - quite literally the most popular in both the TVC and IWTV fandoms, alongside Lestat?? The only possible answer to that is simply that the writers hate Armand, and most probably hate his fans as well.

Do you realize that if the show doesn't get renewed for another season we will NEVER see the absolute treasure that is Assad Zaman as Armand again??? 😨😭 That we will NEVER get Devil's Minion either??? My stomach HURTS at the thought of it!

Not every season of every show needs a big bad wolf, mustache-twirling, evil monologue type of villain. How about just... nuanced characters, all of them of different variations and degrees of evil?

Armand did not need to be horribly villainized again, because a season of such a show as IWTV/TVL (especially one that wants to boast for being "nuanced" and "complex") doesn’t actually need a big main villain. And if they so very desperately wanted one, why not have Gabriella be that. They basically have been building this up this entire season. Combine her with Raglan/Talamasca, sprinkle a little bit of Marius maybe, and voilà.

There's no reason why Armand, who has been the writers' punchbag since season two and was only in this season for the shameful amount of screentime of just 15 minutes had to be villainized yet again.
