Assad Zaman as Armand | TVL 3.07

ugh this gorgeous man
TVL finale simulation
lestat: i am in heaven. i am cleansed of my sins despite not apologizing. this is because i am a poor abused baby who has the blood of akasha in him. i hurl pop culture references at my abusers. i sing mid songs on tables. ooh oohh ohhhh wah ah.
louis: i love getting tortured and begging my abusers for forgiveness
armand: i love torturing and hurting black characters. i didn't actually want to stop total vampire extinction, i just wanted my ex (whom i abused) to apologize to me. my trauma is not getting acknowledged in a meaningful way. i love manipulation and torture. aren't i the big villain? aren't i so unattractive and unlovable?
daniel: [racist slur][homophobic slur][ableism] Yaoi. [racist slur] [probably dies]
they literally could've cut out all the concert & rockstar bullshit and they would've had a big enough budget for the important story beats. why is sam reid rotating his hips more important than all the character work in the books. it's so frustrating. they had the formula right there. make a documentary and let lestat talk in front of a camera with daniel and then flesh out the flashback scenes like in season 1 & 2. they had gold at their disposal
How it has felt watching tvl after waiting for 2 years, and excitedly recommending the show to everyone I know:
The death of this show will be caused by the thousand and one quips, that the amc writers' room have convinced themselves are quirky and funny. Notice how all of their jokes this season are made at the expense of lived realities that are far different from those the writers themselves may have faced? So you will have a pronoun joke here and a little racism there, with a dash of misogyny sprinkled in between. I cannot get over their little jokey "justice4antoniette", not only because the history of s1- the man of the house cheating on his black spouse with a racist white lady, who was then entrusted with the task of killing the black girl child this marriage produced-but also it feels like such an insensitive jab at the phrase in itself. Something that's so often used as a call to action for victims of violence, and sure we joke around with the phrase too and in fact mayhaps at times diluted it too- but this? THIS?? with the context we have of a TV show that once centered two black leads much to the chagrin of many, so now when there's someone else to lead the show, the characters both black and brown are being made into caricatures and flattened to death in an attempt to soothe the ruffled feathers... Yeah, that's just nasty. Also when you have "Louisiana fried chicken"/"big bad wolf"/"cancerous jackal" all wrt to a black gay man, and then a piece of costume which goes:" hip hop sucks" then the writing is already on the wall, no?
Saw a spoiler and lol dumb fucking fandom racists being so happy about Claudia saying the things that she is saying lol. Because of course they now don't have to be uncomfortable with the commentary on white supremacy. An all white writers room made sure that they will be forever coddled. Louis and Lestat are the same as if Louis wasn't almost lynched. Louis and Lestat are the same as if Louis wasn't DARVO'ed. Louis and Lestat are same kind of abusers to Claudia as if Louis didn't try to beat the shit out of Lestat when he put his hands on Claudia. Claudia saying that Louis wasn't even Claudia's by blood? And that she liked Lestat better. Lol this was the girl who begged Lestat to not to hurt Louis and take her instead, as he was dragging Louis by the jaw. God the masturbatory dunking on LouClaudia must feel so good to these racists 🤣🤣 these people so wanted to call Louis the slurs Claudia's ghost spit at him, from the very first episode the show aired. I know for a fact that they hated the Helen of Troy epithet that was given to Jacob!Louis- why else aren't they horrified and are this giddy about the slurs and not horrified at the writing choices of an all white writers' room?
Apology video 🎶🎵
It's absolutely insane to me how Armand has only 11 minutes of screentime (so far) in a season based on the book The Vampire Lestat. I looked up how long each episode is and I'm pretty sure that means he is on screen for around 3.6% of the time (for the six episodes released so far). I don't think even giving Armand half of the finale would make up for that if we're honest. (and I don't think it is going to happen anyway, I'm pretty sure "a good chunk of the episode" will translate to five minutes, ten if we're lucky)
Compared to that, season 2's "Dreamstat" has around 23 minutes of screentime in total for the 4 episodes he appears in (17 minutes if you don't count the Louvre scene, probably *the* worst scene that includes this character) which comes around to 11.2% of the screentime of those episodes.
There is frankly no excuse for this and with how this season has handled its characters of colour so far (plus the atrocious marketing that has been sidelining Assad Zaman since s2 and has now pushed even Jacob Anderson and Delainey Hayles to the side in order to focus on Lestat) as well as the myriad of microaggressions and racially charged remarks strewn all over this season I just don't think there is a way to explain this without acknowledging the racism going on at AMC.
"She doesn't have that. No Madeleine. No rest."
does anyone remember the amc show interview with the vampire? one of the greatest things television gave us in its era. heartbreaking that it ended after two seasons when those characters were so beautifully crafted. i really wish we could’ve had more.
