Apparently, according to DBK, a lot.
Thankfully, it seemed people had learned their lesson about touching Qi Xiaotian without permission. The fact that he was seemingly over the worst of his nausea helped. So did the fact that Red was firmly at his side, a hand pressed protectively to the small of Xiaotian's back.
"Thank you so much," Xiaotian said to the couple who had greeted them. He admired the beautiful pink flowers he had been gifted. "Especially for your gift, Péng Mówáng." The roc demon with his husband bowed back, a pleasant smile on their faces.
"It was our pleasure, my dear." The king said. "Your mother told us you were having troubles picking out colors for your baby's nursery-"
Xiaotian blinked as both Red and the Roc Demon King stiffened. The husband let out a groan, pulling away. "I need a drink." he said, marching away. Who caused a reaction like that?
Oh. Xiaotian's head moved so fast he almost swore he heard something crack.
Standing there, eyeing them with what he could only kindly call distaste, was a scrawny green bull. He stroked a long white beard as he gripped a wine glass full of water. This was DBK's brother, Immortal Ruyi.
Xiaotian knew of him, of course, from Tang's stories. He knew that Ruyi had been invited to the party that announced their courtship but he had either never shown or he had been kicked out. (According to some maids he heard whispering later.) And, based on how stiff Red was, he was willing to bet on the latter.
"Nephew.” Ruyi said, eyes burning into Xiaotian. No, onto his stomach. On instinct, his hand rose to protectively touch it. “I see you’re still dallying with your mistress.”
Red groaned. “Uncle, we have had this discussion several times now.” He clearly wanted to get into Ruyi’s face but he stayed firmly by Xiaotian. “He is not my mistress. He is my mate.”
“He is not good enough for you. I’m sure once the baby is born-”
Red was trembling. Crap. Xiaotian bit back his own growl and instead focused on taking deep breaths in and out. Tears started to prick at his eyes. Fake tears but hopefully...
He let out a loud, fake sob.
Red and the roc king immediately turned towards him, faces filled with concern. And, just like he hoped...
“WHO MADE XIAOTIAN CRY?!”
Then a burst of several colors slammed down onto Ruyi.
