I will ramble and analyse to death anything that interests me.
I’m always trying to make sense of the world and the people in it, so I often ask myself this complicated question:
"How can I convey my intentions best, and make others see what I'm trying to show them?"
It’s a philosophy I learned as a cornerstone of Game Design, but shouldn't that same focus on understanding and communicating also be a core tenet of activism?
P5R: Take Your Time - A complete gameplay and story overhaul: Shadow Ann Boss Fight and her repressed homosexuality
I love the Persona series, but by gosh does Atlus pull its punches when it comes to addressing their themes if it may hurt their sales.
I'm not doing a faithful rewrite, but a radical one; a rewrite free from executive meddling and the need to pander to a male otaku audience. Coming straight from a lesbian herself.
To be clear, I totally understand Atlus' decisions. P5 probably wouldn't've gotten as big otherwise, it's just that, from time to time, I don't agree with them on an artistic level.

Hey y'all. I'm working on Persona 5 Royal: Take Your Time
A massive P5R (PC) overhaul mod that radically changes many parts of the game, like:
A butch lesbian FEMC (with the world reacting, sadly, accordingly)
Plenty of Polyamorous Yuri (I try to not be too self-indulgent here... try)
A lot of difficulty and pain (Because, artistically, that's just how it feels to be a lesbian sometimes </3)
Oh, and Futaba is a trans girl 🏳️⚧️ (I can't see this gremlin in any other way <3)
Plus way more, like earlier Haru Confidant, the new Lovers Confidant that is about Ann and Shiho's relationship, and more revamped Confidants across the board (Please give me ideas on what could be improved/changed for any of them really)
And many changes to core gameplay aspects too, like more free time during non-school days! (Saturdays are half school days now, so you get the early afternoon and late afternoon to do your stuff. You get the entire day on Sundays, etc.)

The WIP clip:
Shadow Ann confronts Ann about her pent-up lust and desire toward Shiho, especially the guilt she carries over what happened to her.
As the Witch of Want (taking the form of Hecate), Shadow Ann wrestles control of Carmen away from Ann, and summons Alraune (the Rotten Maiden) and Persephone (the Forsaken Maiden). Meanwhile, Ann struggles to tame her own Shadow and is unable to summon her Persona for part of the fight.
The custom enemy battle anims are still unfinished, FYI, so they're ugly as sin lol

What was I going for with this?
Well, this is about many things, and I don't wanna influence what you took from it or say that it's the wrong conclusion(unless you see this as 'just friends' which... death of the author has a limit blud).
... But speaking as the writer wanting to show her work, the fight's two central conflicts are Ann's guilt over feeling responsible for Shiho's SA, and her closeted romantic and sexual feelings toward her.
These are represented by the Reversed Lovers, Upright Devil, and Reversed Strength (which you can see in the Boss' Title), as Hecate (the Witch of Want) guides Ann through her fractured halves in an attempt to reunite them back into a whole.
Persephone, the Forsaken Maiden
To summarize the many symbolisms I don't want to give entirely away, she basically represents Ann's guilt (acting as both the Reversed Lovers and Reversed High Priestess).
This draws from the myth where Hades abducts Persephone to the Underworld, and Hecate herself later guides her back out.
The concept here is for Ann to defeat Persephone by rejecting the distorted belief that she is truly responsible for what happened to Shiho. She has to recognize that she was a victim of Kamoshida's abuse too, while still allowing herself to acknowledge that there were things she could have done differently. But still, it's not her fault.
Alraune, the Rotten Maiden
To, again, summarize and not give it away, she basically represents Ann's repressed desire (acting as both Reversed Strength and the Upright Moon).
Alraune is a mythological plant said to grow from the spilled semen of the hanged. At first, Ann hid her feelings because she feared losing her friend; now she hides them because she feels disgusted with herself for still desiring Shiho's body after what happened to her.
And here, the idea is for Ann to defeat Alraune not by denying those desires, but by embracing them. By accepting that Shiho's violation doesn't make her past or present attraction any less valid, nor does it turn that attraction into something predatory or wrong.
This, by the way, is a lesson that Ann will continue learning throughout her new Confidant, once she finally stops subconsciously patronizing and infantilizing Shiho because of her SA.

Btw, my disappointment with Atlus and a big reason for why I'm making this:
I want to treat Shiho's situation with the utmost care and respect it actually deserved. Vanilla P5 dropped the ball so incredibly hard after the first arc (as it did for basically every character after their introductory arcs, let's be real). I want to give these characters the actual depth and respect they were denied.
I want to expose their real, raw feelings, both ugly and beautiful. And show a more honest story(imo) that digs further into opression and the system that enables it.
A quick heads-up on the Discord:
While the server is very LGBTQ+-friendly and has low tolerance for bigotry (especially blatant transphobia), it's still a broader Persona community rather than a dedicated queer/leftist-only space, so you'll be interacting with cishet fans too.
I personally don't mind that, and it's still a very queer- and neurodivergent-friendly community. Plus, my specific thread has a high concentration of queer people, so you can definitely feel comfortable expressing your queerness there.
Make sure to check the pinned posts on the thread for a lot of the major work I've done thus far! (Also some yuri and memes)
I might make my own dedicated space someday, but for now, this thread has been the main hub for sharing ideas and getting feedback.
I strongly encourage people to challenge my ideas, ask questions, and engage critically with the themes and writing (whether it's the source game's writing or my own). Just be open to me reasoning through my choices sometimes, but I'm always open for a respectful discussion <3

Rei (my FEMC that looks exactly like Ren): Fabulous drag king. Give her the tools and she can make you look like a completely different person. More skilled in body art than even Yusuke; in fact, she's his sensei at it
Ann: Only casually knows her way around makeup despite being a model. Has fun trying different looks on herself every now and then, but isn't nearly as obsessed with it as people assume. Saw the lesbian meme about doing your girlfriend's makeup and suddenly needs to try it with Makoto because it looked fun
Makoto: Knows the makeup Sae taught her to wear to look more professional and put-together, and applies it routinely. Doesn't care much for experimenting and would be completely lost if asked to do anything different from her usual routine
(there'll be royal spoilers at the end)
Futaba (my transfem headcanon): Wishes she knew how to do makeup, but never quite gets interested enough to learn on her own. Every once in a while Ann drags her out of her dark cave and dolls her up (she groans because she was in the middle of coding something stupid and was so close to getting it working). Once seeing her prettyfied reflection in the mirror, she will, for the rest of the day, internally scream in euphoria and happiness(and not take a bath for like, at least 2 days to keep it on—)
Haru: Learned makeup to look presentable in those posh snobbish parties, but she does genuinely like playing around with it. She likes trying different brands and techniques all the time
Also, Haru dolls Futaba up like her own porcelain doll, while praising her :3
Also, Haru likes trying different lipstick flavors and get the opinion of her girlfriends about them ;)
Sumire: Knows how to do makeup exactly the way Kasumi did and not much else. Whenever she tries branching out she's never quite sure where to start. Eventually discovers she likes doing nail art
