HELLO. SO uhhhhhhhh I haven't posted in like a week, but here's an illustration I made

Demon Days except with my fav Batfam members. Also Izzy, cause I didn't know which final person to add, and I thought she could use some more love<3

It's supposed to be Duke, Damian, Cass and Izzy but the resemblance is ehhhhhh, also these friggin side profiles r gonna kill me I swear...

My posting is 100% gonna drop in frequency cause I just started school back up again except this is a new place (sorta college esque but not yet?) and all my friends except 1 are in different parts of the country so I have -5 friends rn, also we have homework for every class which is taking up time-

POINT IS. Ehm. I don't have much energy, and at the same time I'm also working on like 5 different art pieces for fun so it takes extra time finishing them (oops)

i wish there was more room for discussion about how whiteness is not default or neutral and in fact so many characters are only able to exist with the relationships or reputations in-universe that they have because of their whiteness. being seen as an everyman/everywoman is not a normative experience in a racialized world having the benefit of the doubt is not a normative experience a predatory sense of control and extraction is not a normative experience but these are all things that are runoff effects of living in a white supremacist world and white characters being written by white authors infuses all those ideas, even mostly accidentally, not to mention when nonwhite authors deliberately allude to these behaviors. unfortunately we will never get to that point when we can’t even get nonwhite characters to be treated humanely by writers and fans alike

Saying Jason's plan and actions in UTRH were just pit madness is very reductive. He worked hard on those plans, he put a lot of effort into them. Everyone acknowledge how hard he worked.

I';m sort of conflicted about "Bruce girldad with Cass" because on one hand it's (usually) out of a place of love and wanting to be all "Look! She got a new dad who actually loves her"/wanting to write stuff about this two weirdos vibing and being cute. But also.... Look, he cares about Cass obv but that dynbamic was soooooooooooo much more than Bruce just being 100% good dad supportive. Also sometimes it reeks to me of ginoring Babs. The Cass of the Bats was a joint effort between Babs Bruce.

WELL YES. I understand 'Bruce girldad' is a reaction to fandom and canon's downplaying of Cass' place as Bruce's daughter - when we keep seeing Cass being left out of Bruce's thoughts, or fandom erasing her from fanart of Bruce's children, it can seem like 'Bruce girldad' posts are a positive change. & also yes I do find it cute and fun sometimes I'm not completely devoid of whimsy.......

But as a Bruce-Cass lover to the Extreme (it's my fav Cass relationship and one of my fav relationships in comics!!) I just DO NOT enjoy it. Firstly I have general issues with the term 'girldad', which I feel like is a way to praise fathers for Liking Their Daughters (I do not have to elaborate on why that's the bare minimum??). Secondly like you said it flattens their dynamic a lot. Thirdly it implies Bruce likes Cass because she's a girl, which is not only untrue but also just weird? I see posts sometimes saying 'Bruce loves Cass because she's his only daughter' which a) makes Bruce-Cass about the Batboys and b) boils their bond down to essentially 'Bruce man Cass girl'. Which like let's not!!!

Beyond all that, Bruce girldadisms is a COMPLETE misunderstanding of Bruce's perception of Cass. I've talked before about Bruce's feelings about Cass' gender, but long story short imo Bruce does not see Cass as a girl. This fact underlies Bruce's projection onto Cass, his denial of her feminine relationships & desires, and why his treatment of Steph vs. Cass differs (and why he is so discomfited by their friendship). Bruce's perception of Cass' femininity is modified heavily by her race & disability, and it's this 'lessening' of her (perceived) femininity that makes Bruce able to project onto her. So much of their dynamic is, I would argue, incomprehensible without acknowledging this first!!!

This is where Babs comes in because Babs in contrast to Bruce champions Cass' exploration of gender (especially in Horrocks' run) but is restricted by her White perspective, which ofc leads to Cass rejecting both Babs' and Bruce's vision of her (see the Soul issue in particular). But allllll of this is lost when we call Bruce a girldad to Cass - this reading cannot even exist within the girldad parameters. So not only does Bruce girldad flatten a complex dynamic, it removes the very foundations of that dynamic, and that's why I'm against Bruce girldad stuff!!!!
