trans men are not oppressed for being men. they are oppressed for being trans and (often, not always!!) having female genitalia/uteruses. men of color are not oppressed for being men, they’re oppressed for being people of color. disabled men are not oppressed for being men, they’re oppressed by being disabled. neurodivergent men are not oppressed for being men, they’re oppressed by being neurodivergent. this is not a hard concept to grasp and is the basis of intersectionality, if you don’t get it there is a 99.9% chance you’re being willfully obtuse.

This is a very narrow-minded view, and actually quite the opposite of what intersectionality is meant to explore.

Trans men are oppressed for being TRANS MEN. They do not have traditional male privilege, and still deal with many female issues, not just including their body parts, but many of which do not pass and traverse the world as both transgender and assumed to be AFAB. They also are of higher rape risk compared to cis female counterparts.

Disabled men are oppressed for being DISABLED MEN. They are forcibly infantilized, feminized, and raped at extremely high rates. They do not have the typical provider role, and thus are oftentimes de-gendered. Not to mention, many have socioeconomic barriers due to being disabled men, unable to work in typical lower-class jobs (Ie. blue collar) due to disability. Neurodivergent men have similar issues, as it is a disability.

Black men are oppressed for being BLACK MEN. You cannot take away the black from them being a man. Black men are disproportionately targeted for being overly violent, and hyper-masculinized to the point of attack. There is no presumption of innocence like in white men. There is also a massive socioeconomic difference between them and other races (especially white). Therefore, they ARE oppressed for being black men.

Taking out key factors of identity is, in fact, the opposite of what intersectionality is trying to preach. You cannot just take the word trans/disabled/person of colour/etc and just put “man.”

I am not arguing they do not exhibit some forms of privilege being men. However, it is important (ESPECIALLY in the case of black men) to not just ignore the negative intersection of their identities with them being men.

I love when people try to gotcha me on my stance that all sports should be gender integrated with "even American football???" because I can instantly come back with "oh lmao, no, I don't think ANYONE should play American football at all, it's way too dangerous" like nice try but I know no amount of testosterone is going to protect you from the profound, life ruining health issues caused by getting repeated severe concussions over the course of several years. No one should play this sport.

Honestly it's pretty weird to me that people dismiss the harm football players go through as fine because they're men, especially when so many players are black men. Always remember the argument that women are weaker than men is also an argument that men are stronger than women and can withstand more injury and abuse which isn't true, and absolutely ties into eugenicist beliefs about black bodies while obscuring their suffering as not existing because they're men and football is only dangerous for women, so how could they be hurt?

Systems can exploit men too, especially non-white or otherwise marginalized men who also deserve to be defended and liberated from said system's devaluation of their humanity and mistreatment.
