On a health note, is it okay to stop taking T cold turkey? Is there any potential health risks?

And are there any detransitioning guides out there to help people figure out how to stop taking medication safely?

I’m not sure what the risks are for stopping cold turkey but what I did and what my roommate did, on advisement from her HRT doctor, was weaning ourselves off of it for at least a month, so like, skipping one week, taking testosterone the week after, then skipping another week, and then either taking one last testosterone or just stopping, and that should be fine I think. If you’ve had surgeries though, you may need to get replacement estrogen I believe, but I’m not experienced there.

I quit “cold turkey”. Had an extremely strong first period and that was it. But any fast change in hormones bears risks. Headaches, heart issues, it takes time before body is ready to work in another hormonal framework.

If you’ve had your ovaries taken out and are still young, you’ll need replacement, otherwise your body and especially your bones are going to suffer.

I went about a month and a half off T prior to my hysterectomy and I was fine. I then stopped T before really knowing that’s what I wanted to do post-hysterectomy (meaning I wasn’t taking any other hormones) and it wasn’t the best of experiences.

you definitely need HRT if you had an oophorectomy (removal of ovaries, often done together with the hysterectomy). estrogen is indispensable for bone and heart health, especially for young women who don’t want to experience the effects of a premature menopause. whether or not progesterone is needed is debatable. it’s generally given to counteract the increased risk of uterine/ovarian cancer that comes with external estrogen, which isn’t an issue if you’ve had those organs removed. however, there’s still professionals who think it’s beneficial for other parts of your body.
