But I thought makeup was self expression? I thought it was art? Why would self-expressive art be bad as soon as new trends come along? We don’t say a painting is bad because it’s in a 90’s style, or a sculpture is bad because it’s in Ancient Greek style. So why is makeup “bad” when it’s not following the trends of this month?

But they’re apparently both art forms. So if somebody really loves the techniques and styles used in Renaissance makeup, why can’t she use them in her daily makeup without being ridiculed? The point is that despite people claiming that makeup is an art form and a form of self expression, there are strict rules and expectations that women are expected to conform to when doing it. So when compared to any other art form, makeup stands out as an outlier.

I actually like that the culture around het ships has shifted to be more female dominant but like, its empty and performative because no one actually thinks of the woman=powerful/man=pathetic couple as anything other than a caricature and a joke, and the pegging jokes are just that, jokes, few ppl are serious about exploring that or making content around that. The actual variety in het dynamics is still painfully limited even today, you'll note that in the actual meat of fanwork like fanfiction and how much the male characters get talked about as compared to women etc.

Maybe it's the COD fandom with its unique strain of bootlicking but elsewhere too, there are barely any serious explorations of dominant women. 99% of fan content is either mlm (heteronormative) or dominant man x submissive woman in fanfics and x readers. My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.

There's also the additional aspect that if luxuries are what's expensive, you can choose to go without and then you don't have to make so much money. You can choose to work part-time, or seasonally, or one person can provide for a group, if living is cheap and you don't need luxury. But if being alive is expensive, you have no choice but to work a lot, regardless of how frugal your lifestyle is. And then you may as well buy yourself the latest gadget to cheer yourself up after another annoying week at work, because it costs barely anything anyway.
