Guy has the quality which makes a villain a *great* villain: conviction. When he’s absolutely sure of something, he’s not easily swayed from it. If he had been colder or more aloof, he’d probably never come to care about Luke and would have gone through with his revenge scheme without hesitation, because up until that point he was convinced that his anger was righteous enough to justify murder. But he has a kind heart, so he turned that conviction into a desire to protect others.
Jade doesn’t have any of that. There are very few things he cares about enough to stand by. He’s certainly capable of - and has done - monstrous things to people, but only rarely did he act on his own convictions. He’s completely dispassionate about virtually everything. He’d make a terrible villain because he just. can’t. care.
Which is not the same thing as being a great antagonist. Guy would be a terrible antagonist, because he’s empathetic and emotionally competent enough that he’s going to be conciliatory. He’s going to compromise, up to a point. Jade has no such sympathy. Giving him any kind of reason to get in your way is a horrible idea, because he’s going to be ruthless, thorough, and an absolute bastard about it.

Farscape art in 2026. It’s free on youtube so I’ve been rewatching it in the background as I work on stuff but inevitably got distracted by a need to draw Pilot. As a kid I remember being a little obsessed with him.
However I do NOT remember this Dr. ‘NamTar’ and their medical bdsm fit from episode 9. I also had to draw them because damn. Get this guy on an industrial band set.
Tales of the Abyss has one of arguably the funniest uses of the "older than she looks little girl" bullshit anime trope in that the answer to "why does this country's papal guard include two children" is "years are twice as long on this planet and people age half as quickly". It's so gutsy that I kind of almost respect it.
Crucially what elevates this to camp rather than mere "she breathes through her skin" flimsy justification it isn't used as a reason for why desiring them is okay; in fact, one of them briefly tries to woo the nobleman protagonist for his money (because her parents are in debt) and he's equal parts annoyed and repulsed by the idea, and the joke is dropped pretty soon after once her parent situation is revealed. The justification literally only exists because someone thought "Kid who fights on a giant doll as the party's magical poke tank" was a fun idea and then needed to come up with some way to tie her into the game where just about every party member is in some way an important political figure.
The game spends so much time showing how deeply uncomfortable the “older than she looks” trope actually is as part of the Tales Series’s ongoing conversation with other narrative RPGs. Like we can easily point at the ways in which they break down the idea of the Chosen One, but they don’t stop there. Anise’s attempts to woo a rich and powerful man always come across as uncomfortable, because it’s clear to both the other characters and the player that her priority is just the money. And everyone can see just how unhealthy that her mindset is.
We don’t get to see her actual motivations until significantly later, but the game respects her enough that she still has reasonably healthy relationships with men who she isn’t actively pursuing. She and Jade quickly settle into a sort of familial friendship, becoming something between a dad and his daughter and a sister with a significantly older brother. Dist is someone she pities, but not to the extent that she’ll try to fix him. Guy is a friend and comrade, and he shuts down her brief flirtation with him immediately before they go back to being friends. We get to see how she behaves with men who are significantly older than her, and it’s so normal that her romantic overtures never sit right with anyone.
All this is to say, whatever the devs said behind closed doors, they made a story that allows her to be much more than a collection of squicky tropes.

Broke: Tales of the Abyss time-travel fixit fic starring Luke fon Fabre. He's not an asshole and he knows Van is the bad guy so he doesn't kill 10,000 people, boring.
Woke: Tales of the Abyss time-travel fixit fic starring Anise Tatlin. She knows the entire plot and would really like to prevent its 5-digit body count that includes her closest friend, but she is 13 years old, her parents owe eighty gajillion dollars to a guy who wants that body count as high as possible, and most of her allies would sell each other to Satan for one corn chip. Her weapons are the ability to spoil plot points to the other party members, very carefully choosing what she reports to Mohs, and unhinged ultraviolence, and she is so mad that she's having to learn to play 5D chess instead of relying on the last one.
Whenever she can't think of an excuse for why she knows about something she shouldn't, she either says, "Ion mentioned it to me three years ago when I was in training to become a Fon Master Guardian! :)" or claims she heard it from Dist in the Oracle Knights cafeteria.
I don't have it in me to keep track of all the moving parts of Abyss's plot well enough to plan the whole thing out myself, but I have decided that the first thing she does is send Mohs a letter helpfully informing him that Ion told her he wants to investigate the Cheagle Woods because of concerns from the locals about liger sightings in the area.
No one asked, but just for the record, the reasoning here is:
In actuality, Ion's decision to go to the Cheagle Woods was a spur-of-the-moment one when Anise wasn't even there, so she couldn't have reported it originally. (Here she sticks with him.)
Anise now knows that the God-Generals primarily want Ion to unlock the Sephiroth and don't care all that much about Mohs's goals, so they're highly unlikely to hurt Ion as long as any of the Daathic seals remain, and in all likelihood he'd need to lift those seals eventually anyway.
It is much, much easier to kidnap Ion from an isolated forest than from inside a heavily-defended warship. Therefore, providing the information to let them do this will prevent the attack on the Tartarus.
Mohs and Van generally want to limit Arietta's access to Ion so she doesn't realize he's not the same person she knew, but if Anise is lucky, "ligers" may be tempting enough keyword to get them to send her anyway. Most likely, they'd send Arietta with Largo as babysitter, since they don't need nearly as much firepower if they're not attacking a warship.
If Arietta is present in the Cheagle Woods, this means there is someone who can translate from Human to Monster who the ligers are much more positively disposed toward than Mieu.
The God-Generals could easily kick Anise, Luke, and Tear's asses and leave with Ion. However, Arietta does not want the ligers to be hurt. Therefore, Anise has a potential opening to do some fast-talking about the fact that if newborn liger cubs eat an entire village, the heavily-armed Malkuth warship full of soldiers would definitely show up and kill all of them, and therefore it would be in Arietta's best interest to convince them not to do that.
There is no other suitable liger habitat nearby. However, you know what Anise has access to that the ligers don't have? A large vehicle that can travel over land.
This opens the possibility of, essentially, a hostage exchange. Anise will convince Jade to ferry the ligers somewhere they won't eat everyone, and Arietta will take Ion to Shurrey Hill. Jade won't kill the ligers because they need Ion back, and Arietta won't take Ion and run because she needs the Tartarus's cooperation to get her family somewhere safe.
Worst case scenario result: Anise has to hand over Ion (she can probably act like she thinks she's just following orders from a trusted superior in the Oracle Knights to avoid getting murdered) and the death toll goes down by 300 Tartarus crew members. Now she has to deal with the ligers and figure out how to get Ion back.
Best case scenario result: the death toll goes down by 300, Arietta no longer hates everyone's guts, Anise gets Ion back, and in all likelihood Largo uses the fon slot seal on Ion as he originally planned, leaving Jade at level 45 and capable of steamrolling every combat situation they come across for months afterward.
For whatever reason I'm thinking about this again, and FTR a major plot issue after this that Anise would not foresee: without the fon slot seal and landship attack, Jade would have MUCH less incentive to cooperate with the rest of these chucklefucks. My guess is that this would first become an issue when Guy shows up, and because Jade still has a small army under his command and the ability to cast Thunder Blade, this time he chooses not to conveniently overlook the sticky political implications of a personal servant of the Kimlascan royal family randomly showing up in the middle of Malkuth. I have no idea what Anise should or would do about this, but I did decide that she can totally deflect any scrutiny that might arise from her being suspiciously patient about explaining things to Luke, simply by loudly declaring that she will be Luke's tour guide because she has relevant experience from having a job doing that in Daath for like a week, then diligently keeping a time sheet for all the man-hours she's going to charge Duke Fabre for as soon as she gets the chance.

Solarpunk is not about agrarian self sufficient communes without industry. I do not even know where y'all get your Solarpunk definitions from, man. Like, do you all just look at some images and then decide this is what Solarpunk is?
Solarpunk is at its core about promoting the idea that a anti-hierarchical, post-capitalist, post-scarcity world is possible, instead of giving into the lie perpetuated by capitalism that it is not and that capitalism is the best we could ever have.
If anything the general issue with Solarpunk fiction right now is that too much of it is too urban, which is tied to the issue that... we need rural areas for food. Not all food can be cultivated in food forests and vertical farms. We need still rural areas and grain fields.
The Solarpunk Manifesto is not that hard to find. Stop basing your ideas of the movement and genre of online aesthetics and a yoghurt commercial. Those aesthetics and the commercial are pretty (I have made the gifs for a reason), but both the people who like Solarpunk and those who dislike it really should actually start reading into the topic rather than just consume images.

Note as someone who has visited and driven in most of the 48 lower contiguous states of the 50 small countries in a trenchcoat that make up the USA;
The drivers of all states suck, of course, this is a given. HOWEVER. There are some very special places that stand out among these. In order of how in fear for my life I was.
3. Houston. Drivers in Texas in general treat speed limits as a lower limit for how fast you should be going and the drivers in Houston show no regard for life or limb.
2. Atlanta. The drivers of Atlanta do not fear death for themselves and would rather you both die than let you merge.
Fucking. New Jersey. If I never drive I-95 or the Turnpike again I will die happy. You've never known fear until you see someone neglect to use turn signals and Jersey Slide through 4 lanes of near bumper to bumper 80 MPH traffic and cut in front of you to make their exit as you slam the brakes on and miss rear ending them by about half an inch.
On the flip side, the BEST driving I've ever seen? Suprisingly, New Orleans. Now, I went NOT during Mardi Gras, but I found the drivers there to be courtious and cautious with a very few exceptions. 10/10.
I've driven in at least 30 states and I'd like to add what my wife and i call "the D.C. vortex" wherein the closer you get to D.C., the more drivers act like they're the main characters of this 4 lane highway and have plot armor thicker than my dick

Drivers from Indiana and Iowa are timid. They will not go 1 mph over the speed limit and they are entirely in the way, no matter what type of road you're on or what lane you're in.
Drivers from Minnesota SEEM polite. They use their turn signals! Then they will cut over in front of you 23 feet ahead (for reference, safe space in front of a semi is 200 feet).
Don't even get me started on Nashville (tgat we call Crashville)

Minnesota Nice ends as soon as that key turns in the ignition. I've seen the kindest people I've ever known go /feral/ at someone who inches forward at a stop light.
To OP's point about how drivers of all states suck: I lived in Colorado for a couple of years, and the ways in which drivers sucked was always a roll of the dice. Sometimes I'd get passed up in whiteout conditions, sometimes I'd be stuck behind someone driving 20 miles below the speed limit, sometimes a driver would simply blow through a solid red light, but I could never predict how bad drivers would drive. I would just try to make it to my local King Sooper's and back and hope that someone wouldn't T-bone me on the highway.
