most folks i know who question their gender end up finding their gender is more than what they were assigned at birth.
question yourself, explore your identity. you arenât stuck with what a cisnormative society gave you.Â
So there was this study in which adults were shown a crying baby. Those who were told the baby was a boy interpreted the babyâs emotion as anger. Those who were told the baby was a girl interpreted the babyâs emotion as being upset.
Confirmation bias is when people only acknowledge information that supports their biases, or twists information that does not into information that does.
So whenever someone says âtrans women are acting according to male socializationâ or characterizes anything a trans woman does as being âmaleâ keep that bit about the babies in mind, and confirmation bias.
For some people trans women can do literally anything and it is perceived as somehow stemming from a fictional essential ~maleness~.
I recall snowflakeespecial, for example, linking two webcomics. One was of a cis woman celebrating her breasts, and one was of a trans woman celebrating her breasts. These comics were very similar in presentation and both said basically the same thing. However, snowflakeespecial claimed that the two strips were obviously completely different because the one made by a cis woman was genuine, whereas the one made by a trans woman was evidence of autogynephilia.
This is also reflected when cis people know a woman is trans, they will interpret any behavior, any physical feature, anything to support the contention that said woman is obviously trans, even if they had no idea even moments before.
In short, the game is rigged. When TWERFs, when truscum, when trans women collaborators pull this shit, theyâre not engaging honestly. Theyâre engaging in terms of âTrans women are men. Therefore everything they do is indicative of being men.â
This is also why they lose their shit when trans women refuse to comply with their perceptions, as happened last night.
The basic rule is, however, that trans women are not allowed to be authorities on our own experiences. Everything we say is debatable and simply being a trans woman makes one discreditable. Any attempt to step outside the very narrow, confining boxes that others have decided describe us is seen as an act of aggression.
For that matter, any attempt to assert boundaries is seen as an act of aggression.Â
to everyone asking "how does a closeted non passing trans man have male privilege?"
male privilege is a complicated multifaceted phenomenon that is intertwined with many other privileges, so you should really be asking âwhat are the ways male privilege benefits closeted non passing trans men?â
and here are a few:
- when such a trans man is a target of misogyny, he does not experience it as an attack on something he *is*, because it is an attack on something he is *not*. it is very easy for such a trans man to have âbut Iâm not a womanâ as his first thought in response to the misogyny. women canât do that because it IS an attack on who they are.
- from the moment a trans man is aware that his gender identity is âman,â he does not see cultural messages about women as about him. this is the self-esteem part of male privilege. a trans man, regardless of passing status or how closeted he is in his daily business, does not experience cultural attacks on womenâs self esteem as targeting him.
(anyone who wants to add to this list should add to it)
Also, Iâve said it before and Iâll say it again: THE INTERNET. If you donât show any pictures of yourself and you say youâre a man online, boom â all-access pass to male privilege within that forum, no matter if everyone offline thinks youâre a cis woman.
You are trans if
You disagree with the gender you were assigned at birth
You adopt the trans label for yourself
Dysphoria is not necessary for the aforementioned conditions
Thatâs it
Thatâs literally it
U did it friend
Ur trans
Congrats
tbh i ask all cis people to interrogate why they feel theyre cis and hopefully theyll come to realize theres actually no purpose behind it and abandon any and all pretenses of being cis
Being part of a marginalised group does not mean that you cannot have harmful beliefs about that group
We internalise a lot of shitty things from society, most of the time without even realising it, and it can take a lot of time and effort to combat those things
You are more likely to combat your internalised shitty beliefs if you are part of the group they pertain to, which is why itâs often safer to socialise with similarly marginalised people
But please remember that yes, it is very possible for someone to be heterosexist without being heterosexual, or ableist without being abled, or cissexist without being cisgender, or have any other bigoted beliefs regardless of their identity!
So basically, your identity is never a free pass to not be called out on doing something harmful against a group you belong to

itâs really great how female-assigned genderqueers get to be in trans spaces AND womenâs spaces AND womenâs-and-trans spaces, and will usually find programming that accommodates them in all of those spaces. but trans women are increasingly decentered and/or outright erased in trans spaces (see: PTHC workshops) and, if even allowed in at all, almost always decentered and/or erased in womenâs spaces and womenâs-and-trans spaces. by âreally greatâ i actually mean âdo you even realize how fucking much you are hurting trans women with your selfishnessâ
WOW! WE SIMPLY CANNOT BE STOPPED!Â
straight people find the idea of being in a gay relationship so fucking knee-slappingly hilarious; âhackedâ facebook statuses proclaiming âiâm gay lolâ are the highest form of humor in their community, as well as being âin a relationshipâ with their same gender friend, that is the stuff that tickles them to no end âoh my heavens!â said straight larry, wiping a tear from his eye âplease, mike, insinuate that we are a homosexual couple rather than heterosexual chums again, what a rollicking good time!!â are they okayÂ
Important List of Things That Need to Stop
Putting the asterisk after trans.
Putting -ed after cisgender, transgender, agender, etc.
Equating âââââcisphobiaâââââ to transphobia.
Saying that âI hate cis peopleâ is just as bad as âI hate trans people.â
"If you donât mean it donât say it!!!!!"
Saying that the words âcisgenderâ or âcisâ are slurs.
Referring to binarism as saying non-binary genders donât exist.
Upholding the social construct of the sex binary.
There are people with vaginas who have XY chromosomes. There are people with penises who have XX chromosomes. There are people, regardless of their genetalia, born with XXX, XXY, or XYY chromosomes. There is no such thing as "biologically" male or female, especially when there is so much diversity both in biology and genetics. Don't try to use science to back up your ignorant and hateful rhetoric, because science will prove you wrong every time.
