Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.
He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"
"What?"
He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"
"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."
Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.
Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.

“How do I know God’s will for my life?” Easy. God has the same will for everyone’s life: that you repent of death and pursue life. Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly before God and humanity. Be faithful, full of hope, and ever working in acts of charity. Be made divine by the grace of God. That is God’s will for your life.
Thinking about this again and a part of this is a fundamental misunderstanding of the word “will”. Okay actually that’s being mean: it’s a different understanding of the will, one that I think is unhelpful and the source of harmful theology.
The will, or more specifically the natural will — as understood by the Eastern Orthodox Church, and possibly by St Augustine the Hippo Saint (as me later ig) — is the drive to fulfill your nature, to grow into your telos. This is pretty much synonymous with how I talk about eros, but eros is a particular interpretation of what the will is based in a particular interpretation of what the telos of humanity is: the natural will is eros, the movement to become one with God, because union with God is our telos, it is the “divine honor/Glory of God” to which we are called (not rule following; iykyk).
God’s will is likewise eros: the natural will, the inherent desire, of the Transcendent Infinite Creator is union with the sublunary finite creation. This is why questions like “What is God’s will for my life?” fall short: you are not an atomized individual; you’re an alienated individual. The medicine for disintegration and discontinuity is integration and continuity within community, that community being the Church, the Body of Christ, the True Humanity, the Bride of the Lamb (feel free to understand this as narrowly or as broadly as you like; idrc). If you are not a part of the Bride of Christ, God’s will is for you to become joined to the Bride of Christ. If you are a member of the Bride of Christ, God’s will for yalls life is for you to be united to Him. “How do I do that?” you ask. Well, wise reader, you follow his commands: turn away from Death and pursue life. What is required of you, o human, but that you do restore order for the debased, that you are devoted to loyal love and loving kindness, and that you are humble before the Infinite Creator. There is no greater command than that you love God with all of your heart, life, and muchness, and that you love the Other as your Self, offering up your life so that they may live. The 3 highest virtues are faithfulness to the God of Covenant Promises, hope in the Recreation of the Decreated, and ego-less, self-offering works of charity.
God created the cosmos so that God could become humanity so that humanity could be made God. This — kenosis and theosis, incarnation and deification — is the will of God and humanity. Not just our wish or our want, it is the fulfillment of our nature, the acquisition of our purpose, the manifestation of our desire.

Because it’s always one of three things.
1. It’s just a random theology long post in a sea of fanart.
2. They post it with tags that imply they are coming out as a woke Christian to their followers.
3. It’s tagged with something like #Beedlesnorf would approve of this message. Like I don’t know who Beedlesnorf is but I’m glad he agrees with me.
