It’s no longer possible to have legitimate criticisms of things like Star Wars or Star Trek, because any criticism will be immediately jumped on by assholes and used as an excuse to be bigots. Like, how can you discuss honest problems you have with Picard, Discovery, or the sequel trilogy when all the right-wing fucks immediately come out of the woodwork yelling things like “KURTZMAN STAR TREK ISN’T REAL STAR TREK” or “REY IS A MARY SUE”? Things that aren’t meant to be debated, but used as a blunt instrument to stifle debate? How can you fairly analyze media anymore when the discourse is so completely dominated by regressive, conservative reactionaries (as well as a not-insignificant number of actual nazis) who have no interest in having an actual conversation?
