In Triumph’s Shadow
pegasuslance:
Matters have fallen into place that draw some relief within the PEGASUS KNIGHT’S chest to breathe easily. Harboring some doubts might have been improper, especially with their main leader’s inner turmoil. It ached her to witness someone whose NOBLE HEART guided a former fiance and his brother from childhood to fall. Fall as he may, their dearly PROFESSOR arrived from the ashes and led them to victory. Taking back the homeland they grew up in, she couldn’t be any more pleased for their paths to cross once more. Why must INGRID feel this sudden…JOYOUS PULSE within her heart? Thinking about her teacher in this manner isn’t proper, not for a knight whose devotion must stick through this war’s end.
Ever diligent before the skies, her PEGASUS performs quite splendidly than their time together back at the monastery. Some fond nostalgia brought about the lectures and the TRAINING GROUNDS where she learned to become stronger. By the day, INGRID dedicated her entire day on training and learning more by their teacher. Reflecting back on him adds another flustered look upon those pale cheeks. Now crimson fills up their hues like a natural rose…how dare these thoughts resurface once more. It was pitiful to imagine their CONNECTION would morph into something deep like marriage. In the end, she’s a hopeless knight who was drowning in doubts for what may happen after the war finally concludes. No wonder the look of her pegasus brings worries over its rider, granting a response by stroking the valiant mane.
Behaving selfishly right now wasn’t chivalrous of the KNIGHT and it’d be absolutely shameful to consider these thoughts. Shaking her head, a hand resumes caring for her steed after the subordinates depart from the briefing. It was amazing to hide away those thoughts through the NOBLE PRIDE surfacing up those emerald hues…a trick learned to hardened that WEAK heart of hers. With a gentle smile, the surroundings were abandoned with only herself and a trusting pegasus keeping her company. The sound of footsteps soon alert for the man whose image seems to cloud those thoughts of hers. A jolted reaction delivers a not quite subtle gasp before resting a hand against her armored chest plate. “ Oh, good day PROFESSOR! Pardon for my outburst. Goodness…I was expecting for everyone else to be busy with their training. ” Her voice offers politeness without letting that faint scare affect their conversation together. INGRID hoped he hadn’t witness the KNIGHT being flushed, not wanting anything to intrude the moment. An alerted inquiry for a status report immediately shifts the woman’s stance to bow politely. A smile adds to what would escape those soft lips.
“ No sign of concerns have managed to breach the skies from any of our ENEMIES. By the by…I must ask if HIS HIGHNESS is fairing alright with your discretion? ” Clearly the newly DIMITRI was on her mind, worried for that state to ever return to haunt him once more. With their PROFESSOR by their side, it surely wouldn’t happen any time soon…or so the knight prays.
I took her by surprise. How peculiar. While I do seem to avoid detection rather naturally, it’s not like her to be so thoroughly caught off guard. Something must be distracting her. If memory serves, the other times I’ve startled her have been...
Marriage arraignments. Goddess above. I can only hope Count Galatea is not contemplating the matter so soon after we’ve retaken the capital. Ingrid is an indispensable asset to our war effort as both a commander and a unit in her own right. To have her time monopolized by some money grubbing noble would all but cripple our aerial viability... and raises in me an anger more intense than I would care to acknowledge.
Now is not the time to be dwelling on such unbecoming emotions, however. We have a Kingdom to rebuild, an Alliance to rescue, and a counteroffensive to mount against the Empire. It’s going to take every ounce of my tactical wit and personal might to bring peace to this miserable continent and its people. ...Thankfully, I have no shortage of reliable allies to aid me in doing so.
“Do not trouble yourself, Ingrid. Dimitri should be commended for how well he is adjusting to the throne. Although, I think he might have an easier time of it if his closest friends didn’t insist on referring to him by his title.” I crack a smile at her, teasing her over insistence on formality, as though she didn’t grow up alongside her newly crowned king.
I developed a fondness for my students quickly after joining the Blue Lions. I have long admired the chivalric virtues that the people of Faerghus idolize, but the darker side of this obsession I’ve seen in each one of my former class. Dimitri might have the most pronounced case of it, but his peers have suffered in their own ways, silently or otherwise. I’ve done my best to help them and I’m still trying to even in the midst of the war, but even so, I can’t help but worry for them. As capable as she is, Ingrid is absolutely no exception.
“...His majesty is not the only one deserving of my concern. You have fought just as tirelessly to reclaim your home. I must insist you be excused from the next patrol.” I know for a fact she hasn’t paused in her duties since the festivities last evening, and even that was for a short time. I need to intervene before my best pegasus knight overworks herself yet again. “Seteth will perform admirably in your absence and I would feel guilty if I kept all of the sweets Mercedes baked to myself. Or would you have me go to more ridiculous lengths to convince you to join me for tea?”

The Goddess’ Reach
Azure Moon, Ch18: The King’s Triumphant Return
@sovereign-tempest
The sky is still a dreary grey as the rain falls upon the monastery, but we are thankfully no longer caught in the downpour ourselves. No, despite the weather, and our bitter victory at Gronder field, we are beginning to see a light at the end of this accursed tunnel. It came at a great price, but it appears I’ve begun to draw the prince back into the light.
Dimitri sits by the hearth, his expression visibly less haunted than it once was, much to my relief. The both of us are still soaked through to the bone and out cloaks hang by the fire likewise. Setting down a hot cup of tea for us both, I take my seat beside him and stare into the flames as well.
The sights I was witness to as that hill burned around me still shake me to my core. Men cooked alive in their own armor, screaming in agony... the best I could do was free them from it. Even still, it was worse with that girl. As though it was not enough to see Dimitri half-dead from her surprise attack and the girl herself after I cleaved her body in two, watching the life ebb from Lord Fraldarius’s body was-
I tried. I reverted the flow of time again and again, trying to be faster, trying to save Felix’s father and Dimitri both. I used up every ounce of my divine power I could in that short span of time. It amounted to nothing. My students have suffered yet another loss they never should have, but I will not let this one be in vain. Felix broke down sobbing after he had shattered his own sword at the training grounds, believing no one had seen him. Thankfully Annette was there to care for him. That leaves the prince’s recovery in my hands, as it should be.
I take a long drink from my cup, the pleasant taste of chamomile calming my nerves and warming my cold bones, before taking a deep breath and returning the cup to its saucer.
My gaze remains fixed on the fire as I speak, allowing his majesty to respond whenever he feels ready to do so. “We will make this right. I promise you that. But our army needs you more than they need me. I am their professor, but you are their lord. You must reclaim that part of yourself from these specters who would rob you of your own life.”

Azure Moon, Ch. 17: Blood of the Eagle and Lion
@corverea
All has proceeded according to plan. Our not inconsiderable army has taken up position across the Gronder river, just as we did five years ago. Claude and his forces are taking cover in the woods, ready to swing the door shut on the imperials should they advance on our left flank. Unless their spies are more talented than we’ve observed, our enemies should still believe they thwarted our alliance and expect us to come to blows. With the empire robbed of their would be generals years prior, this battle is as good as won.
However, there is one variable in effect I cannot control.
“You have finally appeared, Edelgard... Now, you are mine!”
The prince has charged on ahead, fixated on his grim goal. Already, I see him cut down the imperial forces as if they were no more than stalks of wheat. There is no doubt in my mind he will reach the empress. The only question is how quickly he will do so.
There is but one solution. I must reach her first.
Turning back time a few critical moments, I dart across the center bridge as Dimitri takes the right. My compatriots have their orders and I can trust them to cover my advance. If I am not slowed, I will be able to reach the imperial stronghold before he does. Thankfully, I have the luxury of attempting this more than once.
Cutting down a cadre of armored knights that block my path, I don’t let my steps slow as I dart past their fallen bodies, the massive bolt of the ballista landing where I stood a scant few seconds before. Two more battalions block my path up the hill, but with a wide swing of my sword’s whip-like blade, the commanders fall and their surviving underlings scatter. Reaching the peak of the artificial hill in the field’s center, I suffer my second unpleasant surprise. The scent of brimstone fills my lungs the moment before the mass fire enchantment activates, the entirety of the wooden battlement erupting in flame. The inferno singes my boots and cloak, but my divine power protects me from injury. The imperial forces that guard the hill are not so lucky. I see the archer that manned the artillery platform recoil in terror as the flames consume the armament and spread to his clothes. I hear the screams of knights as their flesh boils inside their own armor. I must appear to be some grim harbinger of death, continuing to fight unphased as my fallen enemies burn to cinders. Finally descending the hill’s far side, the closest hostile is a demonic beast, it’s attention currently centered on Felix and Ingrid as the two deftly evade its massive claws. Confident in their ability to overcome the beast, I return my attention to my objective.
Atop the stone dais hardly a few yards away, I see her. She’s hardly aged a day. Snow white hair, lilac eyes, and a penchant for stark red. The horned crown is a new addition, as is the oddly familiar blade in her hands. That may complicate matters but my mission remains the same. As naive and idealistic as it may seem, I still want to believe I can save all of my students.
“Edelgard!” I call out to her with my sword still in hand, striding forward with determination. “Call back your forces and retreat! This is not a battle you can hope to win!”
