sincere apologies for the smeary lens (everything i owned was coated in spf by this point) but i figured the fellow freaks would enjoy lando double fisting t-shirt guns and clearly having a moment of pretending he was in die hard

barcelona-catalunya 2026, what a race! we booked our tickets last year when we thought it was going to be the final year (lol) because @peachbel1ini had seen videos of grandstand L and my GOODNESS how could you not want to experience that view? she also fought very hard a year ago to get us tickets on the slightly technologically-challenged circuit website. and again a couple of weeks before the GP, to get some free (YES, FREE) pit walk tickets.

the pit walk was busy and we'd queued for quite a while to get into the circuit BUT there wasn't anyone chivvying you along like there sometimes is (*cough*silverstone*cough*) so you could do a leisurely walk down the garages. or, you could march to the end of the pit lane and admire the comfort and cushioning of the stools at the mclaren pit wall while your wife does her best andrea stella impression.

had the horror of watching mark norris come out to inspect a front wing under the supervision of an FIA scrutineer and watched them doing all sorts with the cars up on stilts. there are some really cute photo ops along the main straight too.

THEN the race weekend and our first glimpse of GRANDSTAND L ✨ knew the view was going to be good, did not quite realise you could see turns 1, 2, cars going into 3, coming out of 4, through 5 and 6 off into 7. WOW. wow. i've never had a view that could even compare to this. there was so much action happening either side of the grandstand that it was difficult to know where to look at times. for the f2 and f3 races there were rarely times that a car wasn't in view. feeling very thankful that barcelona isn't off the calendar, because i need this again in my future.

knew something special was happening during the race when all the fernando fans (rip) started properly cheering lewis on. the ferrari fan stand was just behind us, which probably added to the atmosphere, but we were at silverstone for lewis' last on-track win and i think this somehow felt even more special! might've shed a tear. that's 2 for 2 on crying at GPs this year. here's hoping that silverstone this weekend makes it a third!
