Persuasion (Austen)
Loving the idea of an filmed adaptation of Persuasion beginning from the perspective of the other members of Anne's family. Perhaps specifically Elizabeth because she, despite being pretty awful, is nevertheless high energy and beautiful and the sort of flawed protagonist we have both seen and liked before. (Emma of course comes to mind but also other characters in totally disconnected media like Arcane, The Good Place, Daria, even stuff like Gone Girl, etc.)
You walk through their lives as they do, with Anne in the background, and their snide dismissal of her is framed as, if a little mean, generally harmless and certainly not malicious. If Elizabeth was framed as the protagonist, at least for the beginning, you could potentially lure the audience into the same sort of self-obsessed stupor the characters themselves exist in that allows them to treat Anne so badly, which could be really cool in contributing to the themes of responsibility in the novel. Elizabeth and Sir Walter are self-obsessed and ignorant, but you could easily focus on their good, or at least diverting, qualities. They're loud! They're funny! They've got style! They've got one-liners!
Of course, I can't imagine an audience completely falling for it, especially if they were aware of the source material, but I still think it could be so interesting to be somewhat forced to realize that the people you thought were entertaining and funny and endearingly vain were actually mean and selfish.
When inevitably the perspective shifts to Anne (probably when she goes to Mary's house), you could potentially be met with a film that asks you to rewatch and finally notice that in the background Anne was twisting her hands whenever Wentworth was mentioned. That whenever Elizabeth or Sir Walter made a joke at her expense, her face crumbled just a little.
I'm not a filmmaker by any means, but it could be cool to try and show the very real feeling of having family members make fun of you and not be able to say anything for whatever reason by ostensibly turning the viewer into said family members.
