Confession time: I’m the one who gave Michelle the surname Jones. No, seriously. So several years ago with Homecoming there was this thing that Michelle was just Michelle and MJ and no one knew what the J stood for, so I decided it would be funny if I put Jones on the Wiki for the film and its characters, see if anyone picked up that there wasn’t a source, but then Variety or some-such website used the surname and even though no official source said it (I checked literally everywhere to make sure I hadn’t just made a lucky guess) everyone kept writing Michelle Jones, Michelle Jones, and I felt right cheeky about it. So imagine my surprise when No Way Home decides that given everyone is using the name Jones, to straight up canonise it and give Michelle the expanded surname of Jones-Watson. There was a thing I read about later that the name DCEU also started out as an unofficial name thought up by a journalist, but no one picked up on that for a few years, but still picked up on it, while no one picked up on what I did at all. So now you know. My tiny contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all the way from an Irish village in the middle of nowhere.
