2Hae Out in Public on a Cafe Date (NOT CLICKBAIT)
At this point, why hasn’t SM entertainment confirmed it at all. Our favorite couple has been spotted on an intimate date at a pretty bougie cafe near Sejong Campus—iykyk. It’s literally a hot spot for young influencers and university couples going on a date, and this is where they decide to go on a little rendezvous. My sources informed me of a rather playful dynamic between the two.
Now, my little helpers have been sending me whispers about a possible family relation between the two—not the they’re related kind, but that our mothers have known each other since high school and we’ve been hanging out since, but these are only speculations at this point.
The one thing I can confirm is that Haechan and Yewon have been participating in the same nationwide singing competition when they were both in elementary school up until they were in middle school!
They’re so cute!
It’s like they’re a match made in heaven if you asked me.
And if you watched Music Bank last week (don’t lie, I know you did), you definitely caught that spark in real time. The way Haechan looked over with that signature cheeky grin? The way Yewon’s smile got about 0.5 degrees tighter in response? Electric. The kind of micro-interaction that makes fangirls (hi, yes, me) squeal at their laptops at 2 a.m.
Until SM drops a statement (any day now, please), I’ll just be over here rewatching fancams and pretending they’re the plot of the next big drama. Because if this is what “just colleagues” looks like, then hand me the popcorn—things are about to get good.— Love Line, your nosy neighbor with WiFi and too much time
Until the next buzz worthy celebrity romance news, this has been Love Line!

not me blushing over a café date like I was the one sitting there with them.
the fact that they chose that café? they wanted to be SEEN omg.
the reporter calling them ‘our favorite couple’ like… yeah, kinda true tho 👀
wait so they’ve known each other since elementary school?? this is insane.
imagine going from childhood competitions to idol café dates… what kind of kdrama plot.
the way you described the look he gave her on stage… I can SEE it in my head rn.
idc if SM confirms it or not, they already look like endgame.
This is lowkey starting to feel a bit staker-ish, don’t you think?
note. hi!! posts two days in a row? crazy. this has been in my drafts for like, forever. enjoy! feel free to recommend me any headcanon ideas :P
#mark lee: childhood best friends to lovers.
it's not easy for mark to fall in love. he likes to take his time. not just months, maybe even years. but when he loves, he loves hard.
that's the case with you. it's innocent at first, he's the vancouver boy whom just moved to seoul. little boy hiding behind his mother's legs as she introduces him to you.
at first, you're the one who had to put in the effort to play with him, dragging him to playgrounds and making him play with you in the sandboxes. or making him push you on the swings. and then it becomes easy, mark happily tagging along in your mischiefs, from tip-toeing down the stairs at midnight to eat chocolate chip cookies to sneaking out of windows to go to parties.
mark's always been so sweet — extra sweet to you, as everybody keeps saying. carries your school bag if it's too heavy, lets you have the last piece of donut, and gives you the most thoughtful gifts ever. you always say it's just mark being mark though everyone swears it's special treatment.
it's clear in the way that he looks at you, the tips of his ears going red everytime a compliment slips past your lips. or when he blushes and does anything you ask if you batted your eyelashes and kissed his cheek.
"you need to stop kissing me to get what you want!"
"but it works and you loveee me."
right. love. mark swears that it's just platonic at first, until he finds you giggling and kicking your feet on your bed, telling him all about this boyfriend of yours.
that's when mark realizes that perhaps, his feelings are deeper than he thought it was. secretly prays that your boyfriend fucks up and he swears he tried his best to conceal his excitement when you told him that you got dumped but honestly you saw the way he bit his lip to stop himself from smiling.
and in his typical mark fashion, his confession came in the form of flowers and a two-paged letter on how he feels. cliche, but cute.
#huang renjun: history tutor.
"how the hell are you failing a university subject?"
"because i thought they weren't important and never paid attention!"
hwang renjun, the tutor your history professor assigned to you because of your failing grade. honestly, who paid attention to university core subjects? clearly, renjun does.
he's so knowledgeable, it's kind of sexy. at least when he's not busy lecturing you. the two of you bicker sometimes, but he's genuinely nice, always patient with you. you only bicker because you start the fights, really. and renjun's kind of easy to piss off. (really easy.)
your tutor session is every friday, at his place. starts off awkward, and then a lot of bickering, but over time, it became a routine — to a point where you start looking forward to fridays, and feeling slightly (extremely) upset every time he has to cancel.
renjun's super attentive. it doesn't take him long to figure out what kind of studying fits you best, how to make you focus and your preferred food.
every time you come over, he already has your favourite drink and snacks on the table, because he knows you won't cooperate without some sort of motivation. things start to get a little friendly — you'd start staying back after your tutor sessions, lounging on his couch as you watch a movie.
falling for him came naturally. telling him about it was casual, too — you had just finished dinner and you're resting your chin on your palms, staring at his face as he goes on his phone.
"you're really pretty, you know. wanna go on a date?"
"...if you get an A on the finals, i'll consider."
safe to say that you were extra thrilled to get that A. and you don't know this — but renjun would've said yes even if you failed, anyway.
#lee jeno: office romance.
jeno's the sweet, helpful, yet unattainable coworker of yours. absolutely everybody loves jeno, and that's the problem. you doubt that you have a chance.
you've asked your friends on if you should just ask him out on a date and everybody says no — jeno has a reputation of turning people down. in a sweet way too, which makes it nearly impossible to move on.
speaking of, he'd be hard to get over. he's just so kind to you! the first time he talked to you was during your first day at the company. you were kicking the printer and cussing it out for not working when he approached you and patiently helped. making a joke about how the printer's not a tv remote yet he stayed and helped despite you accidentally printing twenty copies of the same document.
or the time when it was raining heavily, when jeno caught you running towards your car without an umbrella. he caught up to you, shielded you from the rain and even gave you his jacket when you soaked through your shirt.
colleague jeno who defended you when your seniors bullied you into doing their work, and encouraged each of your ideas.
it came as a shock to you when he admitted to feeling the same. on a friday night, during a team dinner, jeno was driving a (very drunk) you home, his jacket covering your figure as a r&b song played in the background.
perhaps it was the comfortable environment, or perhaps it was the liquid courage — but the confession left your mouth easily.
"i've always wanted to ask you out, y'know — it's so hard though..."
"... and why didn't you? i would say yes."
#lee haechan: annoying neighbour.
this menace. he's so annoying! you've just moved in next door and now you know why you got your apartment for cheap... the guy next door is satan on earth. no wonder nobody stays for long.
he's really loud. he'll be up until the dead of night — three in the morning, playing his stupid games. yelling into his mic and it doesn't help that your bedroom is practically beside his and the walls are so damn thin.
you'd knock on his door — you made a mistake of only wearing booty shorts and a camisole — because he fucking whistles when he sees you, grinning. "what did i do to deserve this sight?" "turn it down, donghyuck."
...and he doesn't. he only gets louder, blasting michael jackson songs through his speaker. when you see him in the elevator next morning, he has the bloody audacity to ask, "terrible eyebags. slept late?"
he also steals your parcels. for absolutely no reason. he just takes them off your doorstep and holds onto them — doesn't even open them, just keeps them until you knock on his door and demands for them back.
(you find out after that they're just his excuses to see you, and talk to you.)
this annoying phase keeps up until you disappear for about a week, and he comes knocking on your door, practically banging on them until you open. you've never seen him so concerned — you've never seen him expressing anything but mischief, really — yet there he was, leaning against your doorframe. "are you okay? i haven't seen you in forever."
when you tell him you've been sick, haechan does the unthinkable — he brings you soup and medicine. fussing over you, making you lay down as he warms the soup and prepares the medicine.
"need you to feel better soon so that i can pester you."
haechan finally confesses one night when you're yelling at him, swears leaving past your lips as he stands there, unbothered.
"i bother you so much because i like you, idiot. quit calling me an idiot when frankly, you're the idiot."
#na jaemin: best friend's brother.
the boy next door, the smiley sweet nana, the neighbourhood's favourite — your best friend's brother, na jaemin.
it was innocent and childish at first. there was simply nobody hot or even close to your type in the neighbourhood. all the boys in high school were stinky. but not jaemin, your best friend's brother who's a grade above you. a stupid crush. everyone has one of those, right?
you first saw him when you went to aeri's house for the first time. jaemin was lounging on the couch, heels propped up against the leather material. lazily flicking the xbox console which angered jeno, earning him a slap on the back of his head. it's stupid, but it was the first time in your life to ever feel awestruck upon looking at somebody.
...and you ended up coming over almost daily ever since. loved it when he'd join yours and aeri's gossip sessions, laying on the bed and scrolling through his phone, making remarks here and there. driving you to the nearest convenience market at two in the morning just because you were craving for ice cream. jaemin was just always there, lingering.
when college came, you expected the stupid little crush to disappear — but the feelings only tugged on your hearstrings harder. it didn't help that jaemin never stopped coming around, driving four hours from busan to seoul just to bring aeri to you. the little headpats he gives whenever you tell them you've achieved something.
it was supposed to stay just a stupid crush on your stupidly hot best friend's brother. and then things take a turn when he takes you to your first frat party. aeri's somewhere in the house (you suspect she's making out with haechan) and you're left alone with jaemin. perhaps it's the moonlight making way for a romantic ambience, or the fact that it's just the two of you on the rooftop — but somehow, the two of you end up kissing. with your noses bumping and jaemin's tongue slipping into your mouth, he whispers something along the lines of, 'fuck, pretty. been waiting for so long for this.'
then came the sneaking around part. teling aeri would simply be too complicated (and scary, for you!) so during the sleepovers you'd have, you tried your best to stay awake, just to tip-toe out of aeri's room and watch a movie with your boyfriend. or eating leftovers together, praying to god the microwave won't be too loud, holding back giggles. occasionally, you'd make out in the back of jaemin's car, him repeating sweet nothings, "you're so pretty, fuck — so pretty."
but then aeri got tired of pretending she doesn't know one day, rolling her eyes and saying, "stop sneaking around already, god. you guys are ridiculous." jaemin's never been happier.
#zhong chenle: academic rivals to lovers.
you hate zhong chenle's guts. he knows that — hell, everybody in the faculty knows that.
the tension between you could be cut with a knife. the way that at every question asked by the professor, you're always racing to answer. putting up your hands as fast as you can, or wanting to have the best answer. constantly competing on who gets the better gpa after every finals.
you swear he's the worst winner too. flashing his graded paper, a 98% scribbled at the top, tongue in his cheek. "outdid you. think you can do better?" or when you sit behind him during an online quiz and a 99% pops up on the screen. he'd turn his screen to the brightest and zoom into the digits, knowing damn well you're watching.
the universe is truly against you when the faculty decides to send the two of you to an out of town competition. much to your dismay, you're forced to share a suite. it doesn't matter that there's separate bedrooms... to share a living space with chenle is absolutely awful.
to make things worse, the guests upstairs are atrociously loud when having sex. like... disgustingly loud, to the point you're up at three in the morning with a sulky chenle. left with no choice, you end up at a freaking convenience store, a half eaten onigiri in your hand and eyes that can barely open.
overcome by your sleepiness, you fail to notice things like, why the fuck does chenle know your favourite onigiri, or your preferred soda? you fail to register the way he's staring at your sleepy state, trying to hold in a smile.
"hey, you wanna make a bet?"
"what?"
chenle grins, "if i win the mathletic, you'll go out on a date with me. if you win... i'll leave the team."
that's when you realize that perhaps, chenle is so good at getting on your nerves only because he knows you so well.
#park jisung: fake dating to lovers.
jisung just wanted to prove to his friends that he's not a total loser. he swears he's not the type to get too affected over his friends' teasing, but it comes to a point. it's impossible to ignore jeno and haechan's constant teasings of, "jisung, you're a 20 something virgin!"
so jisung's left with no choice but to beg you, his best friend to fake date him. just to get the guys off his back. he comes to your house with your favourite snacks, all puppy eyed and frowny. quite literally gets on his knees and begs. "please, yn. just for a while. for like... three months. and then we can stop. please, i'll do your freaking laundry for five months."
and who are you to turn down free laundry service? it's only jisung... nothing's going to happen, right?
wrong. it's impossible to ignore the flutter in your heart everytime he does something boyfriend-like. how could you ignore the fast beating of your heart when he wraps an arm around your waist, bringing you into his embrace as you queue for coffee?
"the guys are watching, come kiss me on the cheek," he whispers, lips right beside your ears. you swallow the lump in your throat and kiss his cheek, trying your best to ignore the way your heart practically jumps out of your chest.
he's too good at the boyfriend thing too. posting random photos of you on his instagram, waiting for you outside your class with flowers he plucked off the campus garden, and the way he slips his big hand inside your back pocket.
you know the feelings you harbor are too deep when he kisses you. it wasn't supposed to be a big deal. jisung's first and last kiss was awkward, with a girl from elementary school under the slides. he wanted to kiss you for experience — you really thought you could handle it, really. until jisung's lips grazes yours and you find yourself thinking about it for an entire week. how could he look so unaffected by that?
you couldn't be more wrong about that too. after the fake dating is over, jisung couldn't help but notice the way you're distancing yourself from him. no more random calls to gossip, or sleepovers, or the weekly yn jisung movie nights. it's empty without you, and nothing could truly fill in the empty gap you've left.
it's chenle who quite literally, slaps the sense into jisung. literally slaps. (part of it is to make jisung actually think, but also because he's always wanted to do that.)
just like how he begged you to fake date him, he waits outside your door — chocolates in hands and a confession.
idol! lee haechan x idol! original female character
genre: rivals to lovers, fake dating, suggestive, smut, angst, fluff
synopsis: Haechan and Yewon have been butting heads since they were in school. Always competing in sports, academics, but most importantly singing competitions. Then when Haechan, formerly Donghyuck, tells everyone he wanted to be an idol, so did Yewon. Except he did become a trainee not soon after, and she followed suit. Then he debuted at 15 and she was still a trainee and would be a trainee until she was 21. Then people began noticing that when NCT Dream won over Stellight, the trophy would always sing towards Stellight and their leader Haewon, formerly Yewon. And people noticed. And their PR team stood up and ran.
one-liner: In a world where idols can date openly and freely, Lee Haechan still wouldn’t date Jung Haewon— which is why the internet made sure they did.

Three.
What Do You Mean 'Our'
It’s been a week since their PR meeting and the only thing they’ve actually done was post some pictures wearing matching hoodies and a subtle bracelet on their wrist that neither of them took off.
This would be the first time since last week that Haechan and Yewon were meeting and all of it was set up by their PR team. That’s why Yewon sat in the corner of a cafe in a hip neighborhood in Seoul known for their hole in the wall cafes often frequented by university students.
Now that things were about to take shape, she couldn’t help but freeze at the idea that she was about to fake date Lee Donghyuck. The same Donghyuck who made her second in nearly every competitive aspect of her life.
The same Lee Donghyuck was sitting across from her.
They were both wearing caps to ‘cover’ their faces and hoodies to hide their bodies. This was it, exactly how their PR team wanted the two of them to appear. In the corner of a hole in the wall cafe near universities where the younger generation could easily recognize them, because that’s what they need the most, to be recognized in public that they were together and alone. Except nothing about the two of them sitting in this cafe was screaming that they were together. Yewon was looking towards the entrance of the shop exchanging glances with rushing young adults.
Haechan was beginning to draw with the moisture of the iced americano he had ordered.
“You owe me for that drink.” He breaks the silence as he glances towards her untouched flat white in front of her.
“Just like you still owe me for that tub of ice cream your mother wanted you to get back in 5th grade,” she finally turns her head towards him.
“How about that glue stick you used for that absurd costume you had for that halloween competition we went to and you began barfing from the food you ate—”
“We!” She corrects him immediately. “We ate that day.”
“Well, it wasn’t me who was barfing all over the place.”
“Oh my god!” Yewon throws her head back and accidentally tilts her head back a little too much.
As if the universe truly believed their “romance” was one for the public, a large group of university students enters and scans the cafe. In normal circumstances, people wouldn’t look twice. Yewon has done grocery runs in nothing but a ragged shirt and sweatpants and not one person would stop and look at her again. The only difference with her grocery runs and this one is that this was deliberately planned out. The PR team wanted them to be seen, and to be seen they were.
Just by the entrance, a university student pulls one of her friends closer and whispers into their ear. Yewon didn’t really want to make eye contact with them, but she did.
Snapping her head back upright and pulling her hood down came as a habit when someone did recognize her, when she didn’t want to be. Maybe sitting in this restaurant in front of Donghyuck yapping about the most bullshit experiences of her life made her a bit conscious of being seen with him.
“---yeah, not to mention that time where your voice cracked when we were invited to that TV show—”
“Donghyuck!” She hisses his name to shut him up.
“What?” Again, like it was all her fault.
“Shut you fucking mouth or I swear to god, you’re going to attract the attention of every single person in this room.” She pulls her hood closer to her head as she leans forward.
Haechan turned to look around. The cafe was suddenly filled with young adults grabbing some afternoon drinks with their friends. Then he turns to look at her as if she was all of a sudden getting eaten by the table this very second.
“Isn’t that the point?” From the pointy end of her hoodie, he pulls it up to reveal her face as it sinks towards the table that hasn’t been wiped in a while.
“Nope!” She shakes her head.
“Weren’t you the one who agreed to this in the first place?”
“Fine,” she turns her head to the side, her cheeks lying on the table as she glares at him, “I’ll call Mina and tell her that maybe I don’t want this after all because the thought of being seen with you irks me more than you think.”
“And you think I want to be associated with you?” He lets go of her hoodie and leans forward shifting into a whisper as people are now occupying tables around them.
“This was a mistake!” She whines in a whisper.
He knew this was a mistake to begin with, but he wasn’t going to mope around and not stick to his decisions. In all honesty, this was more his fault than it was hers. If he hadn’t shown any familiarity with Haewon on stage the two of them wouldn’t be in this position at all.
For the first time in a while, Haechan was troubled and he had to think of a way out of this on his own without his members either backing his ideas or completely going against it. He leans back, which was probably a great idea because the moment he did raise his head he heard a quick snap of a phone. He wasn’t sure where it came from, but he was sure someone just took a photo of the two of them in the corner of some random cafe sitting alone together.
But Haechan was more creative than he was someone to mope around. “Hey,” he calls Haewon’s attention, making her ever so slightly lift her head off the table, “your dermatologist won’t be happy with what you’re doing.”
“Whatever!” She continues to sulk.
“I’m not some coward who backs out on their decision.”
Yewon sighs and sits up but leans in closer and glares at him. “I know. That’s what happened with the fight of ‘09, remember?”
Ah, yes nothing better than reminiscing a memory he had thought he buried deep in his brain, but alas there was nothing worse than Haewon reminding her of his little diva attitude as a child. In all honesty, now that he was older he was definitely in the wrong, but tackling a judge just because Haewon had placed higher than him was a bit too much even for him.
Haechan was prohibited from participating in the national singing competition in 2010 because of that incident, which benefited Haewon to win the back to back champion from 2009 - 2010, the only back to back record either of them had gotten.
“Well, if we’re going to play this game, we should do it on our terms, shouldn’t we?”
Yewon snickers for a moment and she looks at Haechan like he was crazy. He did sort of look crazy as he was leaning towards her, his voice whispering and his hoodie large enough to cover his whole face and even more, but that wasn’t the part that made him look like some rip off of Bruno from Encanto. It's the look on his face, like he was actually serious about their terms.
That was the problem, there has never been their terms where they sat together in harmony. Not in competitions and definitely not when their parents met each other on the weekends.
“Chaos? Competition? 5th grade spelling bee? The whole junior national singing competition lighting up on fire?”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Our terms.” She looks at him dead in the eye. “That has always been our term, Donghyuck. We don’t exactly get along, well aside from being forced to sit at the kids table at your place. Not to mention I actually prefer hanging out with every single person from your family except you. That’s our terms.”
“First, I’m not contesting anything you're telling me.” He shakes his head and leans forward, the tips of their hoodies now touching each other as they can finally tell that they’re catching attention around them. “Second, you already said the answer, dimwit.”
“What?” The longer this conversation moved, the longer Yewon was growing confused. It wasn’t because she was slow, no she was far from it. She always did well academically, understood instructions clearly be it something that needed her brain or her body. So, she isn’t a dimwit.
“Competition, Haewon. We’ve been at it since we were kids.” Like he was some genius discovering how to get to Atlantis, he looked at Yewon like she was some child who couldn’t read the word ball on the board.
“And what kind of competition do we even put up?” She sighs and leans in closer as people are sort of beginning to take the seats beside them. “What’s the price? Bragging rights?” She snickers.
“How about this, I’m willing to transfer the ownership of my car to you, but you should give something of equal value.”
He was beginning to sound insane.
Not that she didn’t want a sports car of her own, but the only thing that comes close to his car was her luxury bag collection and last time Yewon checked he wasn’t exactly in a relationship with anyone to give those bags to.
“Unless you want limited edition designer bags, I don’t have—”
Haechan sneers at her. “I don’t need your bags.”
“Then what do you want?” She was growing frustrated at this point. “Just spell it out, I’m tired of talking to you for too long.”
“2011 Junior National Singing Champion trophy that rightfully belongs to me.”
Yewon leans back and then crosses her arms over her chest.
No. There was no way she was going to give the trophy she was most proud of. There’s countless singing competition trophies scattered around her old room at her parents house, but there was one placed in the living room in the middle of her parents’ display cabinet. The trophy was sort of a reminder that she was actually better than Donghyuck.
She firmly shakes her head.
“What? Isn’t my car enough for an exchange?” Haechan leans towards her his hands on the table as if he was ready to climb over the table just to prove his point.
“It’s too important.”
“Exactly!”
“Well, I don’t really want to own your car.” She shakes her head. “Not to mention that’s something you could easily buy again.”
Haechan sighs and looks around in frustration. The people in the cafe were pretending not to know who they were at this point. Some were casually pretending to take photos while the others were straight on taking photos of them. They got objective number one done, but with this amount of people piling up, he realizes that they have to leave this place soon before the real trouble begins to show up.
“If I win, I want your notice to not be included for the 2009 competition.”
“What?”
“I want a copy of that, but I need you to sign and frame it.”
Maybe he should just leave her alone here and let her deal with the chaotic fans instead of bringing her out of this place.
“You’re insane, do you know that?”
She shakes her head innocently. “Not really.” A sweet gorgeous smile on her face makes his eyes twitch. “So, how do I win?”
Haechan rolls his eyes. “To win, all you need is to have more traction than me.”
So, this was a losing game to begin with. There was no way someone from Stellight would ever come close to the internet noise that comes from someone from NCT. We’re talking here of such a notable brand that people would see the neobong even in their nightmares.
“You're kidding me.”
“I’m not!” His voice raises a bit, catching the attention of the already nosy audience of theirs. He sighs and leans in closer to her, the tip of his hoodie touching hers giving the perfect visual to anyone who wanted to make a story. “We’re not counting whatever traction I or you already have. We're starting this the moment we get PR involved.” Haechan was speaking through gritted teeth at this point.
“Isn’t PR—”
He was tempted at this point to cover her mouth and make stop talking but him snapping at her like this was enough to stop her from making another dumb comment. His hand in the air simply curled into a ball because he knows, and trust him, he knows that people will turn this into some sort of new kink he was into or something.
“I mean they’re the judges and we’re the contestants.” He points between the two of them and leans back satisfied with whatever idea came out of his pretty brain.
Yewon sits there pondering and thinking about it. Her eyes go blank to the point that it was hard even for Haechan to read through. He wasn’t sure if she was going to agree or not, but they’ll be spending a lot more time together for the next couple of days and this was the only way he would find her tolerable.
“Fine.”
To Haechan this wasn’t a simple ‘fine’, not it was equivalent to a win. Jung Haewon admitting that Lee Donghyuck was right, or that’s the stretch of things in his head. This was the first time Jung Haewon has ever agreed to anything he’s suggested.
“I’ll give PR a call.” Haechan was far too excited to realize he really hated Mina.
“Really?”
He nods his head but instead of actually calling Mina, he simply sends her a message detailing what he wanted her help for and how they would be approaching this moving forward.
“Call? More like text her.” She rolls her eyes before the alarm on her phone rings calling the attention of the already many people glancing into the shop.
The alarm on her phone wasn’t birth control pills or her afternoon nap reminder, it was their ‘time’s up’. The two hours she dreaded to spend with him was finally over and this was the time they were finally going to go their separate ways.
“That’s two hours, see you when we will never see each other again.” She stands up from her seat, just about to slide out of the chair, but stronger hands hold onto her wrists.
“Hey,” he stands up reminding her that he wasn’t 10 years old and the same height as she was, “you can’t leave this place without me. It’s a date, remember?” His eyes twitch and his hand still over her wrist.
Haechan was trying his best not to notice that her wrist was so small around his hand. It was so tiny and skinny that it felt like it was going to break under his own hand. He knew that standards were different with girl groups, but this was far too skinny even for her.
“Then start walking out with me, will you?” She tries sliding her hand off of his hand, but instead of Haechan letting go his hand catches hers.
Yewon wasn’t always easily flustered, but she was and always has been extremely self conscious. She doesn’t mind standing on stage, but she could tell when her legs were just too far apart and her head a little too high to be flattering, but right now the thing she was most conscious about wasn’t something about herself, it was Lee Donghyuck. His hands over hers as he so naturally leads her out of the cafe with people snapping ‘subtle’ pictures when they could.
It feels like he’s been in this exact same spot before, because there was no way Lee Haechan has never played this game before.

a/n: the reactions and interactions last update surprised me a bit. I'm surper grateful about it and decided to sort of pay more attention with posting these fics, so you can have something to read in your spare time <3. My fics are unedited when I post them, I want to edit it but alas I don't exactly have the luxury of time on my hands, so apologies for the slow updates!

PR Loves Us
There was something unfamiliar about seeing Jung Haewon, Stellight’s leader and anchor, walk through the halls of the PR department of SM entertainment. The always uptight, never rude or impolite leader was never even out of line, so seeing her walk through the rows and rows of gray cubicles, the department couldn’t help but let their eyes linger a bit.
It wasn’t like she’s never been here before, she has gone to this floor on multiple occasions, just not by herself.
That was the oddest part of it all— she came all by herself.
The gray jacket did not do what she thought it would do to her, make her blend into the crowd. Some say that her pretty face has been both a curse and a blessing, but at this moment all he could feel was the curse part of it all, because no matter what she wore it would always compliment her, or that’s what people tell her all the time.
Turning the corner into the meeting she was told to go to, a breath of relief washes over her.
For a moment, she wasn’t acting around watchful gazes.
All she could do was laugh at herself at this point. There was no way an idol was always so self-conscious about people watching her.
Not long after she decided to take a seat at the far end of the meeting room that was only separated with the gray cubicles with a frosted glass wall, but sound proof enough just to let a subtle breath of air pass through her mouth.
Then fast footsteps head towards the door of the meeting room and then walks in with a clipboard and iPad in her arms. She was carrying her reusable insulated cup and placed it down onto the table before raising her head and sighing. This gives Haewon a perfect look at the heavy bags underneath her eyes.
“He’s not here.” Disappointment was so clear with the way Mina spoke.
Mina looked like she was in her mid-30s with all her late night emergency PR meetings taking a toll on her physically, but she was just 29 years old. Haechan not being here wasn’t exactly helping her ease the stress she was experiencing. Though, it must have been such a relief that this whole meeting wasn’t an emergency, but one she deliberately set up in the first place.
“He’s always late, isn’t he?” Not that he knew Haechan well enough now as an adult to know about his habits, but the once in a blue moon family gatherings where he attends with her always meant that Lee Donghyuck would arrive late with a sorry look on his face.
Mina bites down her tongue and then simply opens her iPad. “He isn’t exactly fond of seeing me…” her voice drifts into silence.
Nor was he any excited to be in a meeting with Jung Yewon.
Then a familiar shadow walks across the frosted glass. His back hunched forward and his feet were dragged on the floor. He opened the door with one hand, while the other was holding onto a cup of coffee he had obviously bought from the company cafe a few floors down.
He was swishing the cup around, mixing the ice with whatever drink he had bought from the cafe.
The moment he walked in, anyone could already tell that he wasn’t amused with seeing both Mina and Haewon sitting in the meeting room. He stops there at the entrance of the meeting room and gave the two a good three second stare before taking the seat opposite to Haewon. The cup was placed on the table with no coaster and was beginning to leave moist stains on the desk, but that was Mina’s last concern.
Mina sighs and then leans forward taking a few seconds to look at Haewon then to Haechan. “What’s going on between the two of you?” So blunt that even Haewon was caught off guard.
Haechan’s face remained blank and unreadable, while Yewon rolled her eyes and then looked at Mina. “I’d rather quit than be whatever you think we are.”
“Fine, there’s nothing going on, but how do you know each other, because you’ve never trained together nor shared classes together when you were training.” Mina leans back and grabs a chair.
“Our parents are friends. We went to school, but that’s it.” Haechan answers quickly.
Mina sits there, her expression not changing but she examines Haechan closely. Yewon wasn’t sure what it was but there was a silent sigh coming from Mina’s whole being at this point.
She slides her chair to the side as she opens her iPad and the meeting room TV. It takes a moment for her to connect, but she pauses and then looks back up at the two of us. “Well, whatever unsolved tension the two of you have put it aside because the numbers are showing something the two of you should be excited about.”
Both Haechan and Yewon knew exactly what was going on. They were idols who were conscious of their reputation, it was inevitable that they would find out about the internet going crazy over one small interaction they shared. It was also hard to miss when everyone they personally knew had been messaging them non-stop. Well, everyone except their parents, who knew all too well that they were the last two people on earth to ever end up together.
“With your second solo album coming out soon,” Mina looks at Haechan, “and your group’s recent comeback activities,” She looked over at Haewon, “this is the best time to think about possibly giving everyone what they desire.”
Desire? More like forcing down their throats at this point, because if they were even paying attention properly there was no way people would think they looked good when Yewon was trying her best not to glare at her senior.
“We’ll do just fine without it.” Haechan sighs, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Fine?” Mina raised an eyebrow. She changes the slide on the TV. It took the two a moment to realize what the numbers were. Right in front of them was the data of the people visiting their groups’ social media pages in the last 24 hours since the news broke out. “Does this look like any other day for your traction?"
You didn’t have to have the brain of a rocket scientist to understand the numbers on the screen. Especially not to two idols who were trained with learning how to read this kind of numbers, because public attention was a limited resource. This is the expensive commodity that idols fight each other for and right now it is being served to them on a silver platter.
The numbers were so good, that Haechan had to turn away, because it was this exact kind of numbers that forced the young barely adults NCT Dream to make mistakes. “You’ve done this before and I’m not falling for it, Mina.”
This catches Haewon’s attention. What does he mean by before? She couldn’t help but ponder and think about it. Then her mind slowly drifts into the only dating news that ever came from NCT Dream.
It was a PR disaster. That’s how Haechan remembers it. They were brought in by numbers and the promise of having larger tractions online that they had jeopardized their member’s relationship because of their greed.
Mina sighs. “What had happened with Renjun before was a mistake and we’ve made amends with both parties since. If you do not trust me, let the numbers speak for themselves.”
On the other hand, Stellight hasn’t been in the public eye for as long as NCT has but they weren’t some unknown group at all. They had group recognition, but lacked when it came to member retention. She knew that this was going to be a selfish choice, but if it means it would get her name out there the prospect of publicly acknowledging a relationship didn’t seem that bad.
Except the moment she turned around and saw Haechan sitting there, every fiber in her being began folding inward.
Haechan was still looking away from Mina and his arms crossed over his chest, but every once in a while he was un-cross them to grab a drink.
“You don’t understand how large of an opportunity this is, do you?” She shifts to her browser and then it immediately lands on a site designed so poorly that only a subtle color red stood out at the top; it was a simple header that read out ‘Love Line’. “This gossip site barely had five visitors before they published their article about the two of you. The moment they did talk about the two of you, their viewer count multiplied into the thousands.”
This was the reality of it all. This wasn’t just a once in a lifetime opportunity for the both of them, but this may just be their only shot into becoming a household name. They’ve both spent enough time in the industry to know that this wasn’t a feat that could be done by anyone. Not everyone is lucky enough for an opportunity like this to be served on a gold platter in front of them. This is exactly the point when they say that fame isn’t just talent, it’s opportunity and a shit ton of luck.
For the first time since they entered the room, Yewon and Haechan turned to look at each other. Their eyes were speaking like kids being forced to communicate without talking. Mina witnessed it first hand, they had no chemistry at all. They looked like small kids arguing at the corner of the playground arguing about whose turn it was to go on the swing.
“I’m down.” Yewon speaks just before their stare off ended.
Haechan’s hands immediately slam on the desk. “Jung Haewon!” Calling her by a name that not even her parents use anymore to call her felt like it was dipping into territory a little too personal.
“What?” Her head snaps back at Haechan.
“What the hell?”
“Oh, come on! Donghyuck,” again with their real names, “look at it. This isn’t an everyday thing even for you!” At this point Yewon’s arms were swinging around her to make a point.
“I’d rather step on shit right this moment than pretend to even be remotely in love with someone who has always been a nuisance in my life.”
Yewon points to herself surprised. “Me? Your nuisance? For fuck’s sake Donghyuck look in the mirror, will you?”
“I have you—”
“Wait—” Mina tries to butt in, but with Yewon standing up and Haechan ready to pounce on her at this very moment she wasn’t exactly sure how to stop a possible physical fight between them.
“If we’re being honest, this is my only chance to create a distinction from my groupmates. Not that I hate them, but we’ve been a group for seven years and no solo projects have come our way. This is my one chance.” Yewon reasons out before Haechan could even finish talking.
“Yewon, Haechan, please calm down.” The worse thing to say to two people who have been in absolute competition since they were 10 years old.
“Are you getting back at me for winning that singing competition more than a decade ago?” Haechan slowly began to stand up and for the first time in the years that Yewon has known him, this was genuinely the first time she had noticed that he was much taller than she was.
“Oh, we’re not going there.” She shakes her head.
“Yes, we are, because you decided to make my life a living hell by showing up in the same company as I did.” Haechan doesn’t back down.
Yewon shakes her head. “A little reminder, you auditioned, I got casted—”
“Guys!” Mina finally catches the attention of the two idols. She was trying to catch her breath as the two idols began to realize what kind of bomb they just exposed in front of Mina. They’ve spent years pretending not to know each other because this is how they would often explode when they were together.
Mina, who unknowingly stood up as well, slouches back into her seat. “I get it, you won’t do it. Can we just move on and live our lives like this never happened?”
Haechan turns his head towards Mina. “Who said we weren’t going to do it?”
Mina sat up and looked at Haechan, who was so clearly opposing this whole setup earlier. “What?”
Haechan sighs. “You’re right, I need traction especially with my next album. This ugly’s reason is alright, so I’m down with doing it. Even if it means I have to rip my eyeballs off just to look at her.” He points at Yewon like she was the most disgusting thing in the room.
“Like I wouldn’t puke just looking at you.”
Haechan doesn’t verbally react, but his face surely did. He was taunting her like a child in the playground looking for more kids to hate him.
“I’ll leave first, Mina.” Yewon looks down at her phone realizing that she was going to be late to her appointment. “I’d rather talk to you than even talk to him about this whole thing.” She motions to Haechan, of course.
Mina nods her head in disbelief.
“Why the hell are you leaving before me?” Haechan immediately noticed.
“You were literally late, so I now have to rush to my next appointment.” Yewon walked towards the door.
“Is it my fault now?”
Yewon couldn’t believe what she was hearing at this point that she had to stop before opening the door to the conference room. “You were literally late!” As Yewon exits, Haechan wouldn’t allow her to be the first one out of the office before he left.
Even with who went first or last, they were arguing about who would go first.
As Yewon and Haechan’s argument disappeared into the hallway and then into the elevators of the building, the only one left in the conference room was Mina, who was beginning to regret ever bringing up the possibility of Haechan and Yewon being their first PR couple in years since Renjun’s unfortunate case.
I caved and redid petty (I tried branching out by writing in first person but I realized that I've always been comfortable writing in third person) which is why the second chapter is taking longer because I redid it

Stage Lights on a Friday
Stage lights were always too bright to see too far forward.
It has always been the perfect shield against looking people in the eye. Jung Haewon stood there beneath all those lights and still looked confident. Not just because she could barely see the audience in front of her, but because she knew the look of being on stage all too well.
Stellight wasn’t just any girl group, they were ‘the rising tiger’ girl group. People on the streets knew their songs and were familiar with them, but were yet to get to know the members. At the center of it all, there was their leader, Jung Haewon. Her hair pinned up into a ponytail, slicked back into perfection, but her face— her near perfect face— didn’t falter at the slicked back look.
She looked just like she did when she was in a random gymnasium standing beneath fewer lights as she sang on stage with the words, ‘nation’s best elementary singer’ behind her with three judges in front of her writing something down. After singing ‘Memories’ and nailing the end of her performance, she stands there catching her breath with a large smile on her face.
She was proud.
Claps echo in front of her, behind her, and to her side. As she catches her breath, she puts her arms down and then bows her head. First at the judges, then at the audience at the side. The crowd wasn’t really a group of fans, just parents waiting for their kids to perform (or win). As everyone else politely claps, at the corner of the gymnasium four adults clapped proudly. Her father was holding a recorder, her mother was there cheering and howling, then there were two other adults cheering just as loudly as her own parents. Lee Donghyuck’s step-father was even holding a professional camera taking pictures of her on stage.
“Next on stage,” the MC moved into the stage, while a volunteer escorted her off, but she hasn’t even officially stepped off the stage when she hears the MC calls out his name, “Lee Donghyuck!”
The crowd erupts in cheers.
Lee Donghyuck was a clear crowd favorite and she hated every bit of it. Even as she stepped off the stage, everyone’s eyes were on him. The always popular, always well received, and always loved Lee Donghyuck takes center stage and even her parents were tuning in with the worst thing in her life personified.
Donghyuck stands in the middle with his ahjumma curls that his mother swore would make him stand out among everyone else— he did, but not the way his mother would imagine— but that was before he opened his mouth and began singing to ‘All of Me’ by John Legend. Except it wasn’t the usual performance of the song, he was singing it raw with no music at all.
Only Lee Donghyuck would be bold enough to do something like this.
She knew from the moment that Donghyuck had opened his mouth and sang in absolute silence, she was not going to win this competition at all.
Sometimes predictions act as manifestations and she unexpectedly manifested (for the fifth time in a row) that she would lose to Lee Donghyuck.
Walking up that stage had always been accompanied with a fake smile and the pretense of being happy placing no higher than second place. She knew that even with the blinding lights directly at her, she would never be the center of the stage.
She wasn’t even standing center stage!
Then ever so slightly, Lee Donghyuck would turn his head and look at her.
Donghyuck could barely hide the emotions on his face. The pleasantly ecstatic expression on his face always laced with a little more ego when he turned to his right and saw that Jung Yewon had a silver medal over her chest. Oh, she knew that look on that freaking face.
It was like he was sing-songing right in front of her without actually doing it. All he did was a sly smirk, a look down at her medal, and then slowly turning towards the stage. All his charming persona has won the judges again and Yewon as nothing more than second to him.
If being on the stage was unbearable it was a whole different hell to be walking down it.
Being the last two kids on stage, they were walking down nearly side by side.
“Maybe try again next time,” he lightly bumps into her shoulder as they walk down.
“There’s no next time.” She rolls her eyes and steps away from him.
But he steps closer.
Donghyuck’s shoulder was just about to hit hers again, but then he was stopped by an agent.
He was getting casted.
Again.
In front of her.
But who got casted to be an idol first no longer matters as they stood with their own respective groups side to side. The neon green lightstick stood out from a crowd of white sticks and yellows (the two predominant colors of lightsticks these days), one of which were Stellight white lightstick.
“This week’s music bank winner!”
This win would mean more to her than any other win she’s received. This wasn’t just any random Friday evening where a win would just make her happy, it would make her feel triumphant over the years of only being second to Lee Donghyuck— now, Lee Haechan of NCT.
Except everyone around them already knew the answer.
“NCT Dream!”
The confetti immediately explodes into the air partially covering the growing frustrated look on her face, but all those years of PR training has prepared her for this very moment. A wide smile, large claps, as she slightly glances at the senior group winning the award on the other side of the stage.
Their eyes met.
Then it was there on his face again, that smirk.
Yewon blinks her eyes a couple of times before sighing quietly to the side. She was doing her best not to let her face falter, but she knew that she was going to slip the longer she looked in their direction.
Everyone in this room knew that Stellight winning over NCT Dream was a wish upon a star, but she had hoped that their best performing song actually had the chance to beat the boygroup powerhouse known as NCT. For the first time in years, standing on the stage with Donghyuck she didn’t think she had any chance of winning against him.
Yet, she lost again.
Her hands continued to clap as the members of NCT Dream say their winning speech. Yewon doesn’t like where her mind was going at this point.
It was like she was back in that little gymnasium watching as all cameras and attention turned to Lee Donghyuck. As she walked down the stage with him tailing not far behind her, she would hear every kind of idol agency asking him to come to them for a visit.
Just when she was finally set on becoming an idol herself.
Just after their last competition, Lee Donghyuck stopped attending the same school as she went to and stopped living with his parents.
Then for the first time since she started joining singing competitions she was winning back to back and getting offers from one place to another. She was getting calls from every agency she could think of and began training not soon after. It was until she was 16 that she found out that Lee Donghyuck would be debuting as Haechan leaving her as a trainee, just behind Donghyuck once again.
There was no point in her life where she was just ahead of Donghyuck.
And he made sure that he was rubbing it into her face.
Even at this very moment.
“And I would like to thank Stellight,” her head immediately snaps towards the person speaking for the winning speech.
With a smug look on his face and a trophy in his hand he shows off the trophy not- so-subtly that she was sure everyone else on that stage knew that Haechan was showing off his trophy to Stellight’s leader, Jung Haewon.
“Our beloved labelmates who are sharing the stage with us today!”
Except NCT Dream calling out Stellight was nothing but the agenda to push the whole SM Family thing going on.
Yewon, since the moment she entered SM entertainment, made it her goal to never run into Donghyuck at the office. It was harder when she was a trainee because she was always in the office, but made her way around by staying stuck inside practice rooms. Even as idols, she made sure that they would never use the same elevator or get stuck in a situation where she knew her patience would run dry, because in the company she was ‘perfect’, no scandals, no issues, and the best choice for a leader for Stellight.
All of that falls off the moment Lee Haechan walks a mere six feet away from her.
There was nothing flattering about the pissed off smile she was giving Haechan, but she made sure that she rolls her eyes at the end before smiling at the crowd as if she can’t see Haechan nearly dancing around with his trophy.
Yewon made it her goal to get off that stage as soon as possible, but Donghyuck wouldn’t just allow her to walk off without showing off his trophy.
And he made it his goal to stand between Stellight’s five members and the stairs off the stage.
It wasn’t uncommon for senior artists to invite their junior artist on stage, in fact, fans loved seeing the two groups interact. Except, Lee Haechan walked over to where Jung Haewon stood with a smile on her face moving her head to the beat of the upbeat music. She moves to the back knowing full well she wasn’t going to stand anywhere near NCT Dream.
With her younger members in front of her lightly dancing to the choreography of yet another hit song from NCT Dream, she disappears into the back not knowing someone has been following her to the back all along.
“Nope.” She mutters and shakes her head with a growingly scary pretentious smile on her face.
As if he could hear her, it was like he was skipping towards her right now.
“We’re on stage,” she mutters underneath her breath, stepping away from Haechan.
“Not like we’re standing that close anyway.” He rolls his eyes, but pushes the trophy towards her once again, “you’re denying me yet all I wanted to do was show this to you.” The tone of his voice made Yewon sick, like a— nope, a grown man pretending to be cute just to irritate her.
She glares at him and immediately the polite smile on her face is gone. “Get away from me.”
“Whether you like it or not, I’m a fucking constant in your life.” He pauses just as he was about to walk away, but turns back around. “Constantly beating your ass!”
He was walking backward at this point, where the audience couldn’t see him nor could the camera catch the way he stuck his tongue out and then stopped right before his cue came in.
Little did the two of them realize just how quickly the whole nation would begin to over analyze that small interaction between the two. How the short moment where Haechan walked against the camera and his part (coincidentally, a very romantic lyric or part) would ignite a whole group of people not protesting the two to leave the group, but asking for more of them.
Maybe, just maybe, Yewon was right about sprinting off that stage as soon as possible.
In a world where idols dating people were normalized, NCT Dream hasn't exactly been publicly dating, and their fans are tired of their dry dating lives so they made it their mission to get every single one of them to fall in love.
