[Urgent] Help a family in Gaza!

So hopefully by this time, you've seen what's going on in Gaza and you want to help but you're not sure how.

Meet Omar and his family of 6!

Omar is one of four Gen Z brothers. They are listed on Operation Olive Branch's mutual aid Master List, and they are line 602.

If you are new to mutual aid - this means their need has been verified by Operation Olive Branch and I have personally been in touch with Omar through TikTok and he is aware that I will be posting on various social media platforms.

Omar is 22 years old this year. His brother, Mohamed (25), is the one organizing the GoFundMe and works as a videographer and video editor. Their other brothers are Hatim (20) and Mahmod, who just turned 19.

They live with their parents, Hazim and Samaher, but have lost their grandfather from a bombing. Mohamed has also lost all of his videography equipment due to the ongoing attacks.

So, what can you do to help?

1. Share this post! The links are LIVE for the Operation Olive Branch spreadsheet (line 602) as well as their GoFundMe.

2. Donate what you can - even $1 helps if we can get a ton of people to pitch in. They are ~$25,000 USD away from their goal to evacuate the whole family from Gaza. Almost there!!

3. I will be posting on other platforms like TikTok and Instagram and will update those links in a separate post when that's done.

4. Follow Omar on TikTok and/or Instagram and share his posts from your platforms there as well!

Time is of the essence as Omar has relayed that the army is evacuating the border areas in Rafah, which is near where they are right now (as seen in screenshot below).

While it's true that mandatory identity verification will inevitably be leaked on a massive scale, the thing you need to understand when framing these arguments is that a lot of the folks in favour of such measures don't see that as a bad thing. Full de-anonymisation of the Internet is their explicit goal. Like, the actual objective here is for everyone to have a public record of everything they say and do – online or otherwise – linked to their government ID. The universal panopticon is the good ending as far as these people are concerned.

On this topic, South Korea literally has you link your resident registration number or your phone number (guess what this is linked to) to make accounts online, and a large push for making this even more ubiquitous was weaponizing a series of virulent cyberbullying campaigns against both private and public figures. This has not made the cyberbullying any less horrific, but it sure has made anonymity on the South Korean internet harder to maintain, unless (not suspiciously at all) you're on far-right forums frequented by the Korean Intelligence to influence elections!

Re : South Korea - in fact, the registration of what is basically your Korean social security number is very much in line with its draconian defamation laws.

You'd think, in a country with sasaengs and cyberbullying problems up the wazoo, this would be a good thing, right? WRONG.

As far as I know, the only people who actually profit off of defamation laws (and the linking of registration numbers) is mostly far right politicians. I personally know a few people (more than 2) that have been successfully sued by far right politicians for "slander" when it was a criticism of their policies.
