Three Nuts for Cinderella (Tři oříšky pro Popelku)
Three Nuts for Cinderella (Tři oříšky pro Popelku or Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel) is a popular Czech-German fairy tale filmed in 1973 and directed by Václav Vorlíček. The film was released in a Czech and German version. While the main roles were played by Libuše Šafránková and Pavel Trávníček, the cast was formed by both Czech and German actors, all speaking in their respective languages and later dubbed. Music was written by Karel Svoboda and the main song was sung by Karel Gott.
This film has become a holiday classic in several European countries, an inseparable part of the Christmas program in the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Norway.
The story was based on a fairy tale written by Božena Němcová (Czech variant of the classic Cinderella fairytale).
The film stars Libuše Šafránková as the title character, a young woman who is put upon by her stepmother and stepsister. The film employs a twist, though, when a handsome prince comes knocking. Cinderella does not simply fall into the prince’s arms. In this version, he must actively pursue the young woman who is a skilled sharpshooter prone to wearing hunting outfits. Cinderella also has three wishes at her disposal, gained from three magic nuts. (x)
