It was 2012 and I was a "white washed" (not real but you know what that means) junior in undergrad and an entire chapter included in this textbook was dedicated to our pidgin/dialect whichever your argument. 14 years later and the amount of borrowing with and without permission of rest of English is truly a marvel to the point where things I know damn well are just AAVE are attributed to wide ranging sources such as "Gen Z/Alpha slang" and "gay lingo" and "internet speak" in general. These are just a few of our many common grammatical rules:

Habitual "Be": In Standard English "He is working" means right now or generally. In AAVE "He be working" specifically means he works regularly or habitually, a distinction that Standard English can't make without adding extra words.

Copula Deletion: Dropping forms of the verb "to be" in places where Standard English requires them ("She tired" instead of "She is tired" or "They going" instead of "They are going")

Double Negatives: In Standard English, two negatives make a positive. In AAVE, using multiple negatives ("She ain't never going") simply adds emphasis to the negation, a common feature in many of the world's languages.

Metathesis: switching sounds within a word, the most famous example being "ask" as "aks," a pronunciation that has roots in Old English.

Remote "Been": When you say "I been knew that" the stressed "been" means you've known it for a long time, remotely in the past, which doesn't exist in Standard English without adding extra words.

Completive "Done": "I done told you already" is a way of saying the action is finished and the matter is settled with an emphasis on finality or frustration.

Subject-Verb Disagreement: In AAVE verbs are often uninflected for the third person ("She walk" instead of "She walks") to simplify conjugation.

Sometimes I’m looking for something online - often “how to” articles - and I want to filter for - like - a website that was clearly built in 2010 at the latest, which may or may not have been updated since then, but contains a vast wealth of information on one topic, painstakingly organized by an unknown legend in the field with decades’ worth of experience. I don’t want a listicle with a nice stolen picture in a slideshow format written by a content aggregator that God forgot. I want hand-drawn diagrams by some genius professor who doesn’t understand SEO at all, but understands making stir-fries or raising stick insects better than anyone else on this earth. I don’t know what search settings to put into Google to get this.

The search engine calculates a score that aggressively favors text-heavy websites, and punishes those that have too many modern web design features.

This is in a sense the opposite of what most major search engines do, they favor modern websites over old-looking ones. Most links you find here will be nearly impossible to find on a regular search engine, as they aren’t sufficiently search engine optimized.

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! Why is porn the only media category that's allowed to be as offensive as possible?

The level of racism and ableism in a lot of mainstream porn would (rightfully) upset most libfems if it was in any other category of media, but it's somehow okay just because it's porn? Why is porn immune to any criticisms of it's racist / homophobic / misogynistic / ableist content the way no other media category is?

There's a slave category of porn where black women are abused like slaves by white men, or black women are portrayed like savage beasts with no self control, or Asian women are portrayed as docile and submissive to the extreme and fetishized for it, or there's hijab porn specifically fetishizing women who wear a hijab, or or

This would (rightfully) cause a major outcry in any other category of media. "But its just a fantasy!" So is any other category of media that would (rightfully) be criticized for portraying such offensive and bigoted content. Why is porn above such criticism?

it cannot be stressed enough that conservative men do not conceptualize a woman who wants anything in a marriage besides "a man who provides." if he's a man with a job, he doesn't understand what more you would want. and because of that, a lot of men don't conceptualize a wife who is someone they like. she's just some lady. you invite some lady into your house forever to have kids and do all the work you don't want to do. you just want her to be compliant. the idea of, like, marrying someone funny and sexy does. not. compute. many people operate still with the idea that marriage is primarily a business transaction of sorts. this is why the upper rich still operate like old school nobility. they preach "old school values" but they cheat on each other constantly. because cheating is actually okay. getting caught is not. you cheat to be fulfilled, but your marriage must maintain an outward image. your wife is someone who represents your home like a business partner, you mistress is someone you enjoy sleeping with during your off hours. like you're never going to get these people to "get it". their paradigm is soooo wildly different.

And then she appears just at the end of the episode to kick his ass.
