Occupation: On-Campus English Tutor and Graduate Student getting her MS in Library Science at GSU

About her: Born and raised in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island but moved to Gotham for college. Likes classic literature, dabbles in writing fanfiction but is also working on an original novel she’s too self-conscious to ever try to get published. Will leave out snacks on her balcony for Red Hood like he’s a stray cat because her new apartment is on his regular patrol route.

Thanks to the amount of rouges who dump nefarious things in our reservoir without warning every other week, drinking tap water has become the Gotham equivalent to doing the tide pod challenge.

I should take up a crafting hobby of some kind to keep the hands busy when I binge watch things; something I can keep up with if, for some unforeseen reason, I ever get sent to Arkham. They probably don’t allow sharp objects in there so knitting and needlepoint are out, but I bet they allow crochet hooks.

Umm, I actually do need three copies of Pride and Prejudice. I need the annotated copy with all my thoughts written in the margins and my favorite quotes highlighted, I need the shitty paperback I’m not afraid to lose or ruin for when I go out of town and need something to read, and I need the pretty and decorative copy that has a library binding and illustrations and pressed flowers on the paper and replicas of all the letters tucked in the pages. Thank you for asking and fuck you for judging, I’ll chop you up and feed you to Harley Quinn’s hyenas. :)

Had a debate with some dude who had a skunk stripe in his bangs at the campus library today and I’m still so mad about it.

Jane Eyre is a psychological thriller, not a romance. That is a hill I’m willing to die on.

Charlotte Brontë is rolling in her grave because of you, I hope you know that. You can't just ignore author intention and decide a book's genre is something it clearly wasn't supposed to be! It's supposed to be a romance. Yes, Rochester lies to Jane and keeps his wife locked in the attic, but he is the romantic lead. You can't just ignore that and decide 'umm, actually he's the book's villain because he's a creepy weirdo.'

Also wtf did you call my bangs a skunk stripe???? It's just at the front, it doesn't even match skunk stripe patterns.

Just because there is a romance at the center of the plot doesn’t make it a romance book—would you consider the book/show ‘You’ a romance too? Huh? The plot is centered around romance and Joe is the male lead even though he stalks and kills Beck.

The very fact that Rochester deceives Jane and plays mind games with her the whole book making her question how he feels and what she sees and hears around the manor changes the tone of the book in a way that makes it read as a thriller. It is capital R Romantic but it is not a romance!!

I’d like to see you TRY to kill me. Again, I bring up author intention. In your own example you brought up something that was intended by the author to be a thriller. Charolette Brontë intended Jane Eyre to be a romance you can’t just decide that a book’s genre changes because you think it should!

Author intention is important, yes, in the academic context of understanding the text and learning about the culture it was written in but when it comes to interpretation of the story it means as much as any other person’s, especially when it was written so long ago

If the expected discharge time for an aortic dissection repair is a week, why must I be in the hospital for ten days?

Granted it was not a typical surgery, and there was some pulmonary resection, but it was minor and that procedure is typically three days release. Recovery from surgery is inherently concurrent!

No, I absolutely unironically believe that, actually. He’s a little rich boy, but he’s still Gotham born and bred. I had to look through a lot of old archived newspapers and tabloids at the Gotham Library for my thesis and I stumbled across a whole hoard of old articles about him getting into rough, public fights when he was a teenager.
