Our future Lives on Mars
Presenting The BAT
What if I ask you which of the following you would prefer, what would you answer? If given a choice, and you see two types of groceries; one, normal packaged eggs, two; a velvet black carton with Versace on it, and within, each egg covered in designed paper each perfectly branded with Versace on it ( again). Full of luxuriousness this product, you will not need, but you will want to have it. That right there is the power of luxurious branding.
What is it?
Paddy Mergui, an artist which came up with a series of fancy groceries if brands such as Burberry, Apple and Tiffany's were to design and sell them as food.
These designer foods are a message to the viewer that it's not so easy to design something so compelling to buy but at the same time to create something that fits the true meaning behind the values of your brand. The series called; 'Wheat is wheat is wheat', also show us how people respond to brands and the need to buy something when it is well designed.
Why is it cool?
If brands were really selling designer branded foods then consumers would want it. It's not just the food, we would want an image, a status given to it. People care about what the rest thinks of them, so if it would be normal to put our garbage outside on the street with the best brands put to the front, then surely we would do so. That's how much we care. Brands make us feel special, for such a bliss feeling we are willing to pay. Of course this is not the only perception of the series, as the artist had made these out of perception of great companies. But the consumers are in charge of this doing because we show companies our wishes towards consuming, and that is what they give us. So in my point of view, this is special not because of companies but because the social aspect is so revealing.
Why does it have future growth potential?
It seems it is not just a case of wanting it anymore, it's more likely it will turn to a need for these luxurious things. To fill a social gap of being something, and in return to show it to everyone. In this time of social pressure you will only be accepted if you have something to offer, if you're something worth peoples time. It may seem very shallow to upgrade your status by being materialistic, but if you can see right trough it, you will see the true purpose of this consumer behaviourism, to be accepted by society, and yell to the world they have something to offer and that they are in fact worth your time. That is why Designer Brands will never fail to exist.

Decoding your Brain
Eco-Friendly All the Way
Because this trend is developing very fast, common people don't know how to change to this green revolution. It is indeed a big and sudden change so we can't blame them either. So... What to do now?
By little steps like seperation of garbage, or the usage of sustainable materials, we can learn. Despite our slow adjustments we need to be quicker as we now speak, because the planet is not going to wait for us unfortunately.
So how can one learn a community to change their lifestyle?
That's where a most common place kicks in; the restaurant, the grill or whatever name you can give to it!
What is it?
The Restaurant I am talking about is 'Sandwich Me', an all American joint but without the garbage and without the MCDonald's fakery.
In about two years time, this restaurant produced but eight Gallons of garbage, which seems to be a new record for a restaurant now-a-days! It also believes in the system of an eco-friendly way of preparing foods. By getting their foods locally and adding no additives they are an example to their neighbourhood.
Why is this cool?
It sounds a bit cliché but to be able to make a difference in a neighbourhood or city, it reaches people and they hopefully will think about the things they buy or throw away. To top it off, it seems like a hard job for a restaurant to keep the garbage it produces at such low rate. I think they set a record for a big part of the world. It seems that education is also a way of being sustainable. We have know the in's and out's of how to do this, because in this way it will broaden the horizon for our future generations. A difference that will be named and hopefully it's value will not be forgotten.
Why does it have future growth potential?
Education has led to growth for civilization, and so it will continue. We live in times of information, it comes easily to us with all the technology that gives us stimulus to draw information out of almost anything. It seems we want to take it all in, and we want to grow. That is probably the main reason 'Sandwich Me' has not already closed it doors. Luckily this time we will want to change to a greener and more worthwhile future. Hopefully this will give people the hope they have long searched for.

A Few Slides of a New Era
There are over 7 billion people on this planet, and that number will not slow down as we continue to overpopulate Earth, it seems like that is a world known problem that is a source of difficulties. We cannot build a larger planet out of the blue like Earth. And Mars will not be ready for us... So how are we to tackle this problem?
For now it is tough man's job to even get a roof over everyone's head and deal with that first. So that is exactly my topic today.
What is it?
These are all examples for a way to live towards a better and sustainable future and with these things, well why not make it a little easier to do so?
This is a one man's home,( The Single person Eco-home) it looks silly from this point of perspective, but it is however a very convenient way to live. This Eco-house has multiple features that can make it fit for one person to live in. With fold-able and pull-out furniture to make yourself comfortable. It even has a bathroom! On top of that it is completely self-providing with not needing a drip of electronics or whatsoever. With a roof made of solar cells, the rain is saved for the bathroom and the kitchen and of course natural ventilation for your own personal breeze.
Maybe this is just for a while or for a holiday but it is a realistic concept for there are many people living alone in a big house, while space is scarce. But this is just one of the things that is thought about, so let's move on to the others!
What about Soundscrapers? Could we actually make electricity out of sounds?
A whole new design to mankind, to use this technique (electro active cilia) to create a sensitive way to catch sounds in cities with hair-like elements and with it, creating Kenetic energy for people to live on. Placing them in capital cities, or cities overall to catch noise pollution they can do their jobs really easily. Well, we'll have to just wait and so, because the idea is already growing to be a solution.
It would be easy like this for people who live in a irresponsible way to continue their ways, because we always seem to have a solution. But that's the dark side of innovation, because people never learn from their mistakes.
The last one is a rather special one...
What if there was a way to solve hunger in the world, one of the most biggest problems we now face. If this actually works it would be a winner for the most enormous problems is the failure of crops. The Green Machine as what it is called, is a mobile platform of a green city along with industrial machines to harvest and nurture the plants on it. A quick fix for a huge difficulty. In communities where there is inconvenient climate for crops to grow this will be a life saving ability.
Why is it cool?
We have tons of people who could come up with such brilliant ideas, so that gives us hope for our future. But There is however one thing that catches the attention, is that it may be all sustainable but it seems it has the lack of learning. Because there is nothing that says we should change our way of living and of expecting it to be. Are we all okay with the thought of having a simulated future, just to sit out our lifetime and maybe a few others generations? If we could copy plants, or animals, would it be real?
Why does it have future growth potential?
We need the knowledge of scientists or engineers to live longer, we can't deny that. It is a good thing in this time of being that they want a durable future that can last. They see the value of it now, that itself is a big improvement. Instead of running away from it, we face it. We'll just have to hope that while we are improving sustainability of our future lives that the cost would not be to lose the real thing in the process... Nature.

A clean Slate
How does our future planet look? Everyone has their theories but no one really knows. We do know that we need to change our ways, to create a green planet once more, but who knows... Maybe we don't even need nature for our future planet, or at least for our future city. What I am trying to say is that our future can look really different from what we see now.
It is in our nature to love nature, it's seems deficient to try and copy nature by making it superficial and fake.
What is it?

It seems rather easy, but sometimes an easy solution can solve a though problem. That is exactly what Daan Roosegaarde did with his artistic but practical vacuum cleaner that can clear the air, that is called Smog, a suiting name for the creation of this Dutch technology artist. China now sees the outcome of their problem with the condition of their surroundings. Beijing has been a problem for years now and it is becoming worse. Last winter there has been the biggest cloud of smog in the city leaving the government to deal with the problem they have been dodging for too long. But just paying people to solve it all wouldn't change the future, it is the message that is important.
That is why Daan Roosegaarde decided to put this message into a material matter; making jewelry filled with Smog, making it a beautiful but a ironic piece of art.
How does it work?
It normally would be a disaster to use electromagnetic fields to create holes into the air, but for the air filled with pollution it creates clean air. Using this technology the dirty air is pulled down into the vacuum cleaner and -tadaa- there will actually be clean areas, or for this example clean parks, as they try it on parks first creating a gallery of the work of Daan Roosegaarde.
But we're not done yet... Thinking about a way to fund this project -because you can guess it will be a pretty expensive project to perform- Roosegaarde created jewelry filled with Smog, called Smog rings. It contains the polluted air forming a important message into a rather nice belonging. It calls up awareness and a reminder that this is not so self-evidently to be gifted with clean air.
Why does it have future growth potential?
To create is one thing but to undo is a much better way and maybe that's how our city and our future should look like. Like our environment once looked, green and self-providing, I think Daan Roosegaarde made it perfectly clear with this project that we think wrong. So maybe we should focus on rebuilding this planet instead of slowly breaking it down. Luckily we have seen it is possible to do so, people should try and follow this message and recreate a healthy and non-fake future. China is a good country to start with, because if China can estimate the value of this problem, the remaining countries will see it too.

Self Transparency
Privacy, has become a thing. You can see it all over the news and the media. The attention around this subject is almost at it peek it seems. It's a paradox with the current generation, we want to know of every bit of information, and there is nothing stopping us to become what we want to become. But since the arise of our dominant and controlling governments, we only become bitter and more bitter over time. The freedom we expected to do what we want, and to go where we want now seems less possible.
However we forget to look at it, in a larger context. Didn't we so voluntarily started to be a part of the online community? The flaws of internet may seem so little, but it is in fact still a choice we made.
Luckily we have techies to solve such problems!
Guilt free pleasures
If one would say; "Ignorance is a bliss, they are no longer up to date. Instead we have become conscious of what we think, to whom we talk, and more importantly to the knowledge we obtain. We are in what we can call, the age of knowledge.
We have grown tired of false facts and dishonesty that profit-based companies present us with. So eating that piece of meat, or wearing that cute cotton sweater, is gnawing slowly at our senses of what is right and wrong. We feel bad for doing exactly the same things we did twenty years ago, when we lived our lives at ease. This time however we know the facts and try to take little steps towards our new lives. We had and still are adjusting to this change. So what better way to do it with some tasty, and honest wine!
Evolution of Irony
We - as in 'the people'- have the tendency to blame the government for every bad thing that happens in our lives. Most of that time, the reasons are given without proper foundation in them and that's where I as person, shake my head and ask myself if there is anything more idiotic to do...
But it is actually a good thing it happens, because we always look upon things with criticism, and it also appears that we are needed to do so.
A change begins within the industry
The dark side of the food industry is very present, corporations seem selfish and only wanting one thing; to make profit. Even if it costs them nature, they will continue to do what they do. The worst part is that it makes sense. They give consumers exactly what they want: tasty, and most of all cheap food. Many of these consumers don't actually know what is going on behind the curtains of what we could call a show of illusion. But the people who know what is going on, know it isn't very good for our planet as well as for it's inhabitants.
Soylent- Ending Food Insecurity ?
Throughout the entire world, there have been many problems emerging around the food industry. Such as all the chemical additives being stuffed in our food, or genetically modifying it so we can create food as easy and cheap as possible bringing new diseases with it. But there is one major world problem we are still unable to resolve and that is world hunger.
While we are throwing away a great amount of food that has been left untouched there are people starving to death. There is just no balance, and the gap is only growing bigger and bigger.

The sustainable message
To know what is fashionable, we just have to pay attention to all around us. The title is giving a spoiler, but I am indeed talking about sustainability. Can that even be `hot´ right now?
Disney´s Genderroles
As a young girl, I, as one of many girls and boys, watched a lot of Disney films. I just loved it, it was enchanting, to see the princess being swept off her feet by a beautiful prince in one of their many rescues.
The Wearables
Future shows a lot of promise for our future selves. If you just look at all the things that are being created, we never dare dream of. What is it that I am going to discuss with you?
Society's wishlist
Boys don't cry, they need to be tough about life, or else you are just a sissy. That's what society would say.
Picture yourselves this, you are a boy, you are six years old, an adventurous child, learning that what life is there to give him. From the moment you would choose to play with dolls in stead of cars, your father would say to you that is for girls. Your mother would cry and tell your father, you must be gay. And that is just the start...
