Ivanka didnât think much of it when closing the window to her room was harder than she remembered it to be. She just used more force and sighed. This really wasnât a new building after all. Just when the window suddenly gave in and she heard an unusual thud from downstairs, she remembered the book she placed between the window and the frame, so it wouldnât close on its own. âGosh darn it!â The girl leaned opened her window again and looked downstairs. However, the book didnât only fell out and landed on the landing of the emergency stairwell at her floor, it also fell a floor down.
With a sigh, she pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear and grabbed her cardigan. She climbed on her window sill and let her feet dangle before she pushed herself off the edge. The landing wasnât that much farther down than the floor in her room, so sheâd easily get inside again later on. Taking the few steps downstairs, sheâd just grabbed the book when she heard footsteps from above. Looking up, she furrowed her brows and wondered which of her neighbours would take the emergency stairs instead of the stairs inside the building. A smile appeared on her features and she shrugged. It was probably Josh, the fourteen-year-old living two floors above with his parents. Sometimes, he just choose to run away. Taking the steps back upstairs, she decided sheâd go further up and have a chat with whoever it might be. There were only nice neighbours in general.
Spotting the girl from between the steps, he forced himself to relax - tension in his body would only make him look suspicious, not that he didnât already look it being on the stairwell as such. In the few seconds before she came into full view, he made certain his backpack was zipped, then managed to somehow look casual. Not being able to speak made these sorts of incidents rather difficult, but at least he could try.
