"The Lipsky Files: Future" Ch.3 "Green Sparks" [DrakkXGo]
The clearing was quiet except for the low crackle of energy.
Shego stood relaxed, one hip cocked, arms loose at her sidesâlike she wasnât currently holding a glowing sphere of volatile green plasma between her palms. The energy hummed, tight and controlled, not flaring, not wild.
Across from her, Jade grit her teeth.
The glow in Jadeâs hands sputteredâtoo bright, then too dimâstatic snapping off the surface of the orb.
Shego raised an eyebrow. Shego: âEasy.â she said. âYouâre wrestling it. Donât.â
Jade frowned.
Jade: âI am focusing.â
Shego: âNo.â she replied smoothly. âYouâre forcing.â
Shego stepped closer, her own energy dimming to a steady, breathing glow.
Shego: âPowerâs not about how hard you push. Itâs about how much you listen.â
Jade glanced down at her hands. The plasma trembled.
Shego: âRemember what happens when you overcharge.â she added casually.
Jade swallowed.
Jade: ââŚI pass out.â
Shego: âAnd before that?â
Jade: ââŚIt explodes.â
Shego: âBingo.â
Shego reached outânot touching Jadeâs hands, just close enough for their glows to resonate. The energy between them synced, Jadeâs sphere stabilizing as if it had found its rhythm.
Shego: âThere. Feel that? Thatâs control. Precision beats power every time.â
Jadeâs eyes widened slightly as the plasma condensed, smallerâbut denser. The sparks sharpened, cleaner, quieter.
She smiled.
Jade: âI did it.â
Shego smirked.
Shego: âYeah. You did.â
She stepped back, letting Jade hold it on her own.
Shego: âNow aim it. Five meters. Rock face. No explosions.â
Jade hesitated.
Jade:Â âNo explosions?â
Shegoâs grin turned wicked.
Shego:Â âThis time.â
Jade exhaled, extended her arm, and released the energy in a clean, focused bolt. It struck the stone cliff with a sharp crack, leaving a glowing scar without shattering the rock.
The glow faded.
Jade stared at the mark, stunned.
Shego folded her arms, satisfied.
Shego: âCongrats. You didnât melt anything important.â
Jade looked up. Jade:Â âDoes that mean Iâm done?â
Shego laughed.
Shego: âOh, kid. That just means youâre ready for the hard part.â
Shegoâs hands ignited againâbrighter now, dangerous and alive.
Shego: âDefense. Try to keep up.â
The warning sign came late.
That was the problem.
Jadeâs plasma wasnât flaring wildlyâit was too clean. Too bright. Too dense. The air around it vibrated with a tight, high-pitched hum that set Shegoâs teeth on edge.
Shegoâs eyes narrowed.
Shego: âJade.â she said evenly. âDial it back.â
Jade: âIâve got it,â she replied, jaw clenched. Sweat beaded at her temple as the green sphere between her hands compressed tighter, brighterâthe glow stabilizing itself with unnerving precision.
That precision was new.
And it scared Shego more than raw power ever had.
She took a step forward. Shego: âNo. You had it. Now youâre optimizing.â
Jade hesitated.
Jade: âThatâs what Dad says to doâtighten the loop, increase efficiencyââ
The hum jumped an octave.
The plasma began to feed on itself.
Shego swore.
Shego: âJade. Drop it. Now.â
Jade: âI can stabilizeâjust one more adjustmentââ
The energy snapped.
It didnât explode.
It collapsedâimploding inward before rebounding in a violent surge of heat and radiation.
Shego moved without thinking.
One step. One grab.
Her hands slammed over Jadeâs, green fire erupting as Shego forcibly absorbed the runaway charge. The impact threw dust into the air, cracking the stone beneath their feet.
Shego grunted but held.
The glow surgedâthen obeyed.
When it finally dissipated, the clearing was scorched, smoking.
Jade staggered back, dizzy, knees buckling.
Shego caught her by the shoulders.
Shego: âHey.â she snapped. âEyes on me.â
Jade blinked.
Jade: âIâI almost had itâŚâ
Shego:Â âNo.â she said flatly. âYou almost out-engineered your own body.â
Jade looked down, shaken.
Jade: âI thought if I refined it enoughââ
Shego exhaled, slower this time.
Shego: âThatâs the difference between control and overcontrol. Power isnât a machine. You donât get to optimize past your limits.â
Before Jade could respondâ
A siren blared.
Metal doors slammed open somewhere behind them.
A familiar voice echoed across the clearing.
Drakken: âWHY IS THE ENTIRE WESTERN TRAINING WING REGISTERING A NEGATIVE ENERGY FEEDBACK SPIKE?!â
Shego didnât turn around. Shego: ââŚSpeak of the other problem.â
Drakken burst onto the platform, lab coat flapping, goggles half on his forehead, tablet already sparking.
Drakken: âI specifically calibrated that zone for progressive output, not recursive compressionââ
He stopped short, staring at the scorched ground, the fractured stone, and Jade leaning against Shego.
He squinted.
Drakken: ââŚDid you build a closed-loop energy system?â
Jade winced.
Jade: âAccidentally?â
Drakkenâs eyes widenedâhalf pride, half terror. Drakken: âSHEGO, THATâSâ thatâs advanced. Thatâsâoh no, thatâs dangerous.â
Shego shot him a look.
Drakken immediately recalibrated his tone.
Drakken: ââDangerous in the sense that only a highly trained, fully developed genius should attempt it.â he amended. âWhich she is not. Yet.â
Shego turned back to Jade.
Shego: âLesson two.â she said. âJust because you can think your way into more power doesnât mean your body signed off on it.â
Jade frowned.
Jade: âSo I shouldnât analyze it?â
Shego:Â âYou should,â she said. âLater. When youâre not glowing like a meltdown.â
Drakken tapped furiously at his tablet. Drakken: âI knew we needed a dampener override for hybrid plasma usersâoh. Oh no.â
The ground vibrated faintly.
Shego closed her eyes. Shego:Â âDrakken.â
Drakken:Â âYes?â
Shego:Â âFix it.â
Drakken:Â âActively fixing it!â
Jade let out a weak laugh despite herself. Jade:Â âHe panics like this when anything gets unstable.â
Shego smirked. Shego:Â âThatâs your father.â
Drakken finally slammed a switch. The residual energy bled off harmlessly.
He straightened, proud. Drakken:Â âThere. Controlled. Contained. Brilliantly handled.â
Jade looked up at him. Jade:Â âI messed up.â
Drakken hesitatedâthen crouched slightly to her level.
Drakken: âYou pushed because you understood it,â he said, quieter. âThatâs not failure. Thatâs⌠iteration.â
Shego raised an eyebrow but didnât argue.
She guided Jade toward a nearby bench. Shego:Â âTrainingâs over for today.â
Jade nodded. Jade:Â âI shouldâve stopped sooner.â
Shego squeezed her shoulder. Shego:Â âYou will next time.â
She glanced once more at the scorched ground. Shego:Â âThatâs how you survive long enough to get better.â
Behind them, Drakken was already muttering. Drakken: âNote to self: redesign training protocols for combined cognitive-energy users⌠maybe add warning lights⌠and less implodingâŚâ
Shego smirked.
