A funny thing about magical girl media is that folks who are broadly aware of the genre but don't take it in tend to assume Pretty Cure is the most G-rated of the lot, based on the fact that it's got brighter colours, frillier costumes, and generally younger-looking protagonists than average – then you actually watch the fight scenes and those squeaky middle schoolers are doing Bruce Lee shit to the monsters.

Shouichi is a fantastic character, everyone who watches Agito knows that, but ive been thinking: not enough folks talk about how cool Kamen Rider Agito is. Like i think he’s severely underrated, he’s equal to Kuuga in terms of looks but with a completely different unknowable vibe. Even when talking to Agito fans he’s so often eclipsed by other riders in the show, including by myself! But i’ll never forget how amazing all of the early Unknown fights were. How crazy it was when Shouichi would get in the zone and race off to save someone. That one time he still had stuff on his face from cooking but was too locked in to care. That incredible first henshin on the Akatsuki, one of my favorite moments in all of Kamen Rider. It’s all so cool! Agito is so cool!
