Mabon Dreams
Mabon 2021 is coming! The dates of celebration are mixed but generally itâs the Autumnal Equinox which falls on September 22 this year. Mabon is the second fire/harvest festival.
Activities you can do this Mabon:
Harvest whatâs ripe from your garden
Visit your local farmers market as much as possible
Place a money jar on your altar and begin collecting to donate to a charity/cause
Pick up litter in your area
Go on a nature walk
Donate to a food drive
Meditate, focus on rebalancing yourself
Sit under the stars
Visit your deceased loved ones
Samhain, the Witches New year, is right around the corner and itâs time to be thankful for what we still have, the loved ones who are still with us, and the year we were given. In October we will honor the ones weâve lost this year and maybe some of us will be lucky enough to connect with those on the other side. Be safe on Mabon.
Blessed be.

Witches Sabbats: Lughnasadh
Autumn draws near and with it, comes Lughnasadh.
Lughnasadh, pronounced âLOO-nah-sahâ and known also as Lammas, is a Celtic festival that occurs from the 31st of July through into the 1st of August. It was observed fervently throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man and marks the beginning of the harvest season.
Also called: LĂşnasa (modern Irish), LĂšnastal (Scottish Gaelic), Luanistyn (Manx Gaelic).
Lughnasadh is the celebration and ritual of the first harvest of fruit, wheat, and grain. This festival both acknowledges and celebrates the waning of light - Lughnasadh is the initiation of Winter preparation.
It is named for Lugh LĂĄmhfada. and is in honour of his step-mother, Tailtiu who perished of exhaustion after clearing the fields of Ireland ready to be planted, sowed and seeded. Lughnasadh was originally a set of rituals, gatherings and funerary games (named Tailteann Games, or Ăenach Tailteann) in honour of Tailtiuâs death and sacrifice.Â

Activities to be done during Lughnasadh:
Baking/Cooking: Sharing food is a good thing to do with each sabbat, especially those with agricultural ties. If you incorporate seasonal foods, and foods associated with the sabbat itself, it can be seen as an offering or as being done in honour of what youâre celebrating.
Take some time to enjoy nature: Lughnasadh is a time when the seasons are changing, so take this time to walk and enjoy the last that summer has to offer. Collect things whilst you walk to put on your altar if you have one.
Construct an altar: if this is something you do, decorate your altar with some of the items mentioned in the list above. If youâre pagan and have a deity who corresponds with this holiday, leave an offering on your altar. In Lughâs case, he is a god known for his skills in craftmanship and His ability to turn His hand to anything. He is also known for playing the harp, so anything you have crafted or that has taken skill to create will be well received by Him.
Decorate your home: if you like, small decor changes can really get you in the mood and act as a celebratory act.
Bonfires: Invite friends and/or family to a bonfire. Not only is Lughnasadh a celebration of waning light and of the god Lugh, it is a celebration of fire. Share plans to remove negative habits or influences from your life with your loved ones, burn representatives of negativity, drink to future prosperity and toast to Lugh.
Light a candle and do the same, if you are not yet an outed witch.
Craft: as mentioned before, Lugh is a god of craft and skill. Make something! Finish a project youâve been putting off!Â
If you donât want to do something in Lughâs name, you can make dolls out of corn (a very traditional activity) and they can be left on an altar if you have one, used as decoration or turned into a poppet.
Acts of athelticism: The funerary games of Lughnasadh were its primary reason for creation. To honour this, you can do something on a small scale, such as jogging or yoga, or going to the gym, if you are able.
Trading: Bake some bread and give it to your friends/family/coven in exchange for herbs, or some canldes! Thatâs just an idea. but you get the gist of it.
Lots of trading took place at historic Lughnasadh celebrations, as they assembly for this season festival was always large.
Feasting: Ties into the baking/cooking aspect, but using things that come from the first harvest is a good way to honour Lughnasadh and Tailtiu.

âď¸Witchy guide to weather magic âď¸
đ Utilizing the different energies around us is a center part of all kinds of witchcraft. Weather witchcraft is what I call a task for an advanced witch. After learning to control energies around you in a small scale, like your own energy field, your home, etc, you can tap into energies that have effect on larger scale, such as the Sun and the seasons, the Moon, itâs phases and the tides, and what weâll focus on this post: the atmosphere as a whole, and how itâs changes define the weather, the change of energies around us.Â
Here iâll share what Iâve learnt through the years and give you my personal approach based on what Iâve learnt from my family and my own experienceđ
âď¸To understand weather witchcraft, you must first understand the science behind it. As with any path of craft, the first step is research. Weather is defined by the atmosphere, specifically one of itâs layers, the one thatâs closest to the ground, called troposphere. This layer contains most of Earthâs water vapor, and itâs where clouds form. Itâs also where meteorological change occurs. Before trying to change the weather by ourselves, we must know what makes it change naturally, and after years of practice, there are three things basic things Iâve found have to be taken into consideration when spellcrafting, and these three basics are: the Sun, Air and Waterâď¸
âď¸The Sun: The Sun, or heat, affects the weather through itâs radiation. Warmer temperatures mean more water evaporation, more likely to form clouds and rain. This also ties to water pressence. But more Sun doesnât always mean more rain, the amount of water that the Sun can evaporate will define how much precipitation there is in the end, as in polar areas rain is rare too, even if water abounds, as the Sun doesnât really heat it enough to evaporate enough for rain to be common.
đ The Water: Water pressence or lack of it affects the weather greatly. One of the first things my mother taught me was that places with large bodies of water nearby, like lakes or the Ocean, have less broad temperature ranges. This means, temperature changes less drastically: if itâs 20°C at mid-day, itâs not gonna be -5°C at night, itâs probably going to be ~10°C. Water, due to itâs chemical properties, absorves a lot of heat, thus absorves the Sunâs radiation easily and prevents the temperature from rising. In desert areas or places with really low humidity, temperature ranges are much broader, for example, 40°C during the day to -10°C at night, since thereâs no water to soften the Sunâs effects.
đŞď¸ The Air: Differences in pressure and temperature cause masses of air to move, as wind. From places with high pressure and temperature, called anticyclones, to places with low temperature and low pressure, cyclones. Research what winds affect your area, where they form and what characteristics (humidity, temperature, etc) they have. Create correspondences for them based on their unique characteristics!
âď¸ General advice âď¸
âď¸ Research, seriously read as much as you can about geography, the characteristics of the place youâre living in and how the factors mentioned above affect itâs climate.
âď¸ Make correspondences that work for you and make sense to you, corresponding to your areaâs geography, the winds affecting it, your usual weather, keep track of it, also make correspondences for the Sun and Moon and Water or Ocean, deities you work with in your craft, their offerings and altar settings, you can include maps and drawings in your grimoire!
âď¸ For temperatures, you can call into Sun deities in your work, or use fire and Sun symbolism, like candles or burning sigils/offerings.
âď¸Â If water is lacking in your area, consider calling onto water or ocean deities in your craft, spirits of any nearby rivers or spirits/deities associated to the nearest water source to you.
âď¸ Different winds with different characteristics will also form different fronts when interacting with eachother, research what these are and how they form, call into winds you need to form these fronts and you can even make sigils for that specific wind combination and the front it causes!
âď¸ Ways of weather working âď¸
âď¸ Cloud/wind reading: also one of the first things my mother taught me, as different winds have different temperatures and humidity, they form specific types of clouds. Just by looking at the sky, their shapes and how many there are or not, or by feeling the wind, where it comes from, how cold or dry it is, you can tell which winds are affecting you at the moment, if thereâs just one or more, and how many possibilities you have of rain or a storm forming. For example, I live in the argentinean northern patagonia, which means Iâm affected by 4 different types of main winds. If I see clouds like nimbostratus, I know weâre having a wind called sudestada, and we may have storms and even a spring tide due to itâs effects.
âď¸ Make charms: you can make all sorts of easy charms for weather magic. The classic work is the 9 knot spell, but thereâs much easier stuff like windchimes to alert of energy changes.
âď¸ Herbs, roots, spices, grains, sand: all of these have different uses in weather magic! Hereâs some of my correspondences for water witchcraft, stay tuned to my blog for a future post on what herbs and spices to use specifically for weather workings!
âď¸ Sound: whistling, by yourself or using whistles, are one way to call on wind. If you have any tie to merfolk or know you have weather singing abilities, you can sing too (be aware, not all merfolk like humans singing, can cause with fae troubles too and you may want to avoid this), another good idea is chants or prayers. Making sounds similar to rain falling with instruments like whatâs here called a palo de lluvia or small bells also work very well.
âď¸ Warning: use this knowledge responsibly, donât further help the weather go wild, donât put other people in risk, thank you âď¸
âď¸Â With Love, Nao âď¸

The Full Corn Moon (September 1st at 10:23 PST)
Wait, isnât it supposed to be the Harvest moon? The full moon that happens nearest to the autumnal equinox (which is on September 22 or 23) is, but this year is a little different. When Septemberâs full Moon occurs early in the month, the full Moon of early October lands nearest to the autumnal equinox, and therefore takes on the Harvest Moon title instead. Â This rare full moon is also a highly emotional moon, because not only is Neptune in Pisces, but the Moon is also in Pisces AND in Cancer. Because of this correlation, this moon represents the deeply spiritual nature of family. This doesnât only have to be in your personal life, this also means the world as a whole. Â This Full Moon is profound since it focuses on the knowledge that family is the foundation of every society and community in the world. This full moon, weâre going to be deep in our feelings. This moon will also affect each sign in a unique way, so I am going to go through each sign briefly and tell you what this moon means for you. The unpredictable energy of Uranusâ influence will make us more open minded and experimental, so be prepared for the unusual to pop into your life! This sudden weirdness ultimately paves a new path that leads to new opportunities in your life path.
Aries: (March 21 - April 19)
You will be embodying the essence of âThe Hermitâ tarot, taking all of your emotion inward for some well needed introspection and contemplation. You will be more receptive to your higher self at this time, so listen to your gut during this full moon. You may also find that what you have been doing isnât serving you, or that some of your thoughts or feelings are on the more irrational side and need to be looked at closely in order for you to grow as a person.
Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
The energy for this moon in Taurus embodies the â3 of Cupsâ tarot. You may feel like you have been keeping your emotions to yourself⌠This moon urges you to reach out to friends with honesty and openness. It will help your friendships grow and create a more solid platform for your relationships. Focus on your friends when this full moon occurs⌠It is not the time to close up, you will be strengthening your bonds with your friends if you choose to be more open.
Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
The energy of this moon for you is the â3 of Pentaclesâ tarot. This moon blesses your work life, giving you inspiration for new ideas, and motivation to put those ideas in motion. This moon is about inspiration and emotion, so whatever you have felt in your heart for a long time, this is a good time to put it in motion if it is work related. This could be art, writing, selling things online, or even just gathering motivation to go to your everyday job.Â
Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
This lunar energy will bring about the energy of the â5 of Swordsâ tarot. Be introspective about your beliefs and philosophies with this full moon. It is okay to change your mind on something. You are a forever evolving being who is always growing. Donât stifle that growth by being stubborn about believing something. Accept new ideas and new philosophies with open arms, and respect others with different ideas from your own.
Leo (July 23 - Aug. 22)
The lunar energy surrounding you will be resembling the âStrengthâ tarot card. This card is traditionally under Leo, but the difference is, you may be feeling vulnerable and unsure of yourself. Take this time to analyze your shadow self. What pisses you off the most? Grosses you out? Why? Are you hiding a truth about yourself you are ashamed of? For example, maybe you dislike loud and successful people because you secretly feel small and weak. Looking at the vulnerable sides of yourself is going to be easier with this full moon. Find time to strengthen your shadow self so you will diminish unneeded anger and resentment in your everyday life.
Virgo (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22)
You will have the â5 of Swordsâ energy surrounding you with this moon. This is about taking a break from your own self improvement to better the relationships around you. You may feel like you have had conflicts lately, so this pisces/cancer moon is a perfect time to take a good look at your relationships and how they are going for you. Relationships can also serve as a mirror of our own issues, so take the right steps in welcoming in new opportunities to strengthen the bonds you have with other people.
Libra (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22)
This moon embodies the energy of the âThe Sunâ tarot for you. You may feel like you are giving to others more than you give to yourself, or that you are lacking some fun. This energy tells you that it is time to relax and let go, allowing yourself to experience what you enjoy. Take a relaxing bath, watch a movie, eat an entire tub of ice cream⌠Unwind and enjoy the pleasures of life. You will recharge and feel ready to take on the world again.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21)
This moon embodies âThe Empressâ tarot for you. This is going to be a highly emotional time for you, so take this time to enjoy the luxuries of life and to stop worrying about things for a while. Maybe that means painting, listening to good music, writing, dancing, playing music, or any other form of self expression. Being creative will not only be easy for you with this moon, but it will be healing for you as well.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21)
This moon will bring the energy of âThe Loversâ tarot into your life. This is a time to focus on your closest loved ones, especially in the realms of romance. Having a deep talk with someone will inspire creativity within you, and these deep conversations will bring you closer and leave you feeling fulfilled and content in your relationships.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19)
You may have an emotional buildup, you might even feel like you are going to explode. This moon brings âThe Towerâ energy for you. This moon will provoke a release, and though it may feel like a catastrophe, it is ultimately healing and needed for you to move on with your life. Donât avoid your emotions, dig deep and see what you pull out. It may be painful, but it is needed for you to move on.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18)
This moon carries the energy of the âSix of Pentaclesâ tarot for you. You might get caught up spending money, time, and resources that donât mean a lot to you spiritually or emotionally. Being charitable is going to give you a lot of satisfaction at this time, so giving advice, giving something for free, or anything else you can think of that is a sort of sacrifice is going to be good for you spiritually at this time. It will come back to you threefold, so start investing in that good karma!
Pisces (Feb. 19 - March 20)
You are going to be full on pisces mode during this moon, embodying the nature of the âKnight of Cupsâ tarot. Let yourself explode creativity, passion, dreams, intuition, and emotion! It is okay to cry over nothing, to laugh out of nowhere, to dance for no reason, to be spacey during an important event⌠Those intense emotions bring creativity and make the world a better and more interesting place. Feel and embrace whatever comes your way with no shame!Â
No matter what sign you are, you will have a highly emotional experience that will ultimately bring positive change in your life!
**Reminder that "smudging" is part of a closed practice. Please call it smoke cleansing.
