Okay so, theory time:

What if Ghostbur is Dream’s first attempt at resurrection? It would explain everything! Why Ghostbur’s memory is so messed up, why he would just disappear for days at a time, etc.

It’s why Dream kept on asking Tommy if he could remember everything. He wanted to see if he had gotten all of Tommy back, instead of just a happy, amnesic version of him. Now that he knows that Tommy came back whole, it means that he could get back the whole Wilbur back instead of just Ghostbur

Also, expanding on this theory; The Wilbur that Tommy spent time with in the afterworld could be all of the dark memories of Wilbur, since Ghostbur is carrying all of the happy memories with him. It could be why Tommy is so scared for Wilbur to come back, because he fears it would just be “Evil Thought” Wilbur.

It’s so funny to me that Dream thinks reviving Wilbur is gonna make him do whatever he says because Wilbur will be thankful for being alive again like Wilbur “Phil. Kill me. Do it” Soot has never been happier being dead. Dream’s last canon life is gonna be taken by Wilbur “this server is better off with us being dead” Soot and I love that for him.

Tommy is tricking Dream into bringing Wilbur back

Okay hear me out. Tommy said death was dark, oppressive and terrifying, he said he wouldn’t wish it on anyone, not even on Dream. What he did say is Please Don’t Bring Wilbur Back. Now, and hear me out, if Tommy wouldn’t wish that hell on DREAM, I find it very unlikely that he would wish it on his brother, because despite him having done some terrible things and definitely not being a good person, Tommy still cares about Wilbur very much.

Tommy isn’t stupid, he knows Dream feeds off power and intimidation, so telling him “please don’t do this it will hurt me very much” is like handing him a loaded gun. However, making Dream believe he is still in control will give him a false sense of security, while giving Tommy an advantage. For what we know, whatever we heard in the afterlife could mean a hundred different things, since we only saw the last 5 minutes of a two month period. While it could very likely be that Wilbur is still dangerous, it could also be that he’s gonna become a really powerful ally. Tommy begged Dream not to bring Wilbur back. Dream immediately decided he will bring Wilbur back.

Tommy is setting a trap by giving Dream false power, and Dream is taking the bait.
