i've been more active in this corner of the internet recently, and seeing everybody's fanworks has inspired me to share an au idea i had, that i've been considering turning into a fic.... i'm really just curious to know if anyone would read it, because if not it can stay my well developed maladaptive daydream 😭😭

premise: in s5e8, "rickternal friendshine of the spotless mort" instead of declining rick c-137's offer of "making him real" memory rick accepts with the idea of rejoining the defiance as his own separate entity. (albeit still a version of rick c-137) this is where he would meet the character insert - head strategist of the defiance, a take-no-shit, "maybe we should just set it on fire", chaotic neutral nonbinary character who challenges our favorite old man to open himself up again. it would follow the main pairing and their experience conquering the federation, the trials and tribulations of war, and an excuse to come up with a bunch of super silly inventions that should be canon!

there are so many dynamics i would like to explore in this universe - specifically exploring how differently c-137 could have ended up if he had let himself be loved, and allowed himself to love in return before becoming the most bitter autistic asshole in the andromeda system... obviously the smiths and c-137 will be present in the storyline, i would love to see how domestic beth specifically would react to watching her father change in real time for someone else, especially a younger version of her father that (in her mind) could have stayed.

my favorite dynamic to flesh out will definitely be the one between rick and our character insert, they have a very "iron sharpens iron" type of relationship - one that doesn't reward vulnerability, one thats at first only driven by lust but turns into "oh fuck... i WOULD care if you died."

oBVIOUSLYYY theres going to be a lot of sexual tension and smut, i'm writing a fic centered around 35 year old rick clearly i want to fuck him - highkey got a oneshot from this au already planned.. (for some ideas on how i envision their dynamic see: all wound up by she wants revenge, or animal attraction by swr...)

i've actually been working on this for about a year now and i have a good chunk written, unfortunately i cannot write linearly -- HOWEVER, i hope to eventually publish a first chapter here, and on ao3. its a total passion project, but if even one person reads it and enjoys it i'm happy.

Beth was around 10 when Diane died. It’s not known exactly when the Omega Device was used to erase Diane from existence, but she raised Beth through high school.

In Rick C137’s flashbacks, it’s shown that after his wife and daughter die from Prime’s bomb, Rick goes through a battle with grief and depression. When he manages to break through, he starts working on a portal gun. Immediately after, he uses it to travel to many different dimensions, worlds, and timelines. All with the same goal in mind: Find and kill Rick Prime.

From what we’ve been shown, he never goes to another universe to see another Diane. He travels and sees other Ricks and grandkids when they show up, but we never see him interact with a Diane besides his own.

The main thing that makes Rick C137 so different from other Ricks is that he’s sentimental. Even other Ricks acknowledge it-

“You’re a rogue Rick. Irrational, passionate. You love your grandkids.” “Because you love her!”

It’s first shown when he steals Morty Prime with the intention of using him as an advantage over Prime. Once he starts to care about him, he chooses Morty’s safety over finding Prime(Solaricks). Later in the episode, he finds all of his family in different dimensions that he’s essentially adopted as his own even the correct Jerry.

The reason that Rick never tried to find another Diane is because he’s always been the one Rick who truly doesn’t care that there’s an infinite number of his ‘family.’ He didn’t mean to get close to them, but he couldn’t help it. Deep down inside, there’s a heart that can’t help but love others. It just takes a lot for him to push through his defense mechanisms that tell him to push everyone away because they’ll just get hurt. It’s why one of the first signs that he’s truly healing is Rick caring about others quickly. Adopting that kids parents as his own. Trying to protect Tannenbaum.

Rick never tried to choose another Diane for the same reason that he never tried to make a clone of her. It’s the same reason why he kept Morty as safe as he could and would never try and make/take another. It wouldn’t be them. Which is why it’s so sad that Rick makes Morty feel replaceable.

the thing that bothers me with 7 deadly sin based characters is when they cant decide if they embody the sin by suffering from it or by drawing it out of others. ie. if your gluttony demon is a guy who loves eating then your lust demon should be a gooner sex pest. and if your lust demon is a seductive girlboss then your gluttony demon should be a 5 star chef. does this make sense.

the idea of a post-rescue who shauna who doesn’t marry jeff, who goes to brown and majors in lit, who becomes a writer and dissects her grief and trauma through her work, who still builds a shrine to jackie out of her life— not by taking on the life that jackie would’ve had, but by writing about her, is everything to me. every novel she writes has a charcater who dies too young, whose death transforms the people around them in a profound way. every poem she writes has an undercurrent of loss to it, with a million different metaphors for death that her readers will spend hours picking apart and analyzing; but not as many hours as shauna spends bent over her desk weaving jackie into her words, killing her again and again while simultaneously immortalizing her in her work as she tries to write her way out of the grief, the guilt, the shame. god we could’ve had it all
