“Never forget that it only takes one political, economic or religious crisis for women’s rights to be put in jeopardy. Those rights are never to be taken for granted; you must remain vigilant throughout your life.”
Simone de Beauvoir
there are a lot of red names popping up in the notes so I’d like to add another quote from Simone de Beauvoir:
“One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman.”
“One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman. No biological, psychological, or economic destiny defines the figure that the human female acquires in society; it is civilization as a whole that develops this product”
That’s the full sentence of the quote you chose. She says the role human females (women) are expected to fulfill in society, i.e. femininity, does not arise from differences in psychology, biology, or intellect, but rather, femininity is a result of socialization, of a social construct.
So in very simple terms: the feminine role is not natural to human females. Women are taught to occupy a specific place in society through socialization, not as a natural result of biology.
Or do you think Simone De Beauvoir, an existentialist philosopher, was actually saying men can become women?
@star-temeraire really hasn’t deleted their post yet huh
you know that feeling when you get your period and you’re like “proof again of my inherent kinship to earth, time, the moon, and all living things, like all goddesses before me” or is that just me?
girl, pls. we both know the reason your bf is insecure about his intelligence isn’t because he thinks you’ll leave him, it’s because men always feel threatened when women are smarter than them. they hate it. and we both know you don’t want to leave him because you’re comfortable. maybe you think being with someone who isn’t 100% is still better than having no one (not assuming this was just my experience). I’m being completely serious when I tell you it’s better to be alone than with someone who resents you/your intelligence.
Oh he always knew I was smarter than him and genuinely was never bothered it’s just now we can like never connect on that level and so now he is worried I’ll want to leave which I do lol
And honestly the reason I’m waiting is bc of how much pain it will put him in bc it’s just gonna be horrible to cause another person that much pain, idk why you think you know me better than I do lol but I can’t WAIT to be single I don’t want to be in a proper committed relationship for a WHILE after this one bc of how trapped I feel in it, not comfortable!! It’s genuinely just cowardice at having to cause another person That Much pain when I eventually do it (and I’m waiting till summer bc his uni is causing extreme stress atm and I just can’t see myself doing this and him not failing to finish his degree which, at least I can stop that from happening by waiting you know? And I can be a coward about it at the same time lol)
got to the point where I’m not talking to my bf about my thoughts on the topics most interesting to me bc my intelligence just freaks him out and makes him feel inferior lol
when your god or gods kills his creations, that's his right to do so. he made us, so he can destroy us. male creator deities exist to take credit for women's labor as the true creators. a woman made you. a woman can decide she doesn't want to create a new person, and that's her right as a creator. you were never entitled to her labor; you exist because she agreed to make you.
male creation myths strip women of their rightful authority over creation. they deny them autonomy over their bodies. they say that pregnancy is merely incubation, but that's a lie. pregnancy is women's labor. she has the right to refuse to offer her body's resources to create new life.
god did not create you. a woman did. it is not god's will, it is hers.
!!!
“access to a womb” sends actual shivers down my spine. really made me realise they view our bodies as something they can take and we’re hoarding from them . ugh so uncomfortable
My ultimate pet peeve is women sexualising themselves being defended as “she’s embracing her sexuality”. It could not be more removed from her sexuality. Her sexuality is what she finds attractive. Making yourself more attractive to men is embracing MEN’S sexuality.
I like how almost every culture seems to be convinced that female body hair is some sort of ethnic quirk specific to them...Italian women are hairy, Mexican women are hairy, Jewish women are hairy, Indian women are hairy, etc..it's almost like women of all races and ethnicities be hairy -_-
Truly.
It’s almost as if only ultra-white women are near hairless (mostly because their hair is so light as to be invisible), but their standard of hairlessness is pushed onto all the other women of the world, who are, in fact, hairy
are whites women not also mammals?
Was this at any point being debated?
you do realise you just said white women are hairless, right? you seem to think white women look like 5 year old girls or reptiles or smth
Lmao somebody is angry
I said near hairless and that their hair is so light as to be invisible. What about that puts you in mind of reptiles? Why are you projecting onto my post? Why are you so bitter about women with dark body hair being able to recognize that certain women have a lot less of it?
Super white northern women tend to have very little hair, and what little they have is blond. Like little enough that you can occasionally see their scalp under their tufts of hair, mostly hairless thighs and barely have any lower leg hair either, same with armpits, certainly no arm or other body hair beyond that... Nearly hairless, in comparison to the majority of the world's women.
If you're mad about it I'm just going to assume it's because you're of polish descent or some such and have never met a girl with actual body hair before 🤷🏼♀️
"super white northern women tend to have very little hair" except logically that makes no sense. If they evolved for cold, they would logically have a lot of thick hair to stay warm. Maybe said hair really is super blonde, but it's there.
But it’s equally likely that being covered in furs and wool for much better protection would also make humans’ fine layer of hair irrelevant in a cold environment.
It is literally the case that northern white women have fine blond hair, as opposed to thick dark hair that is far more visible, regardless of how much hair one technically has.
My point was all about the visibility of your body hair as the reasoning behind shaving/bleaching body hair. So even if northern white women have more hair technically, if their blond hair is just hard to see, then the choice not to shave is still far more abstract than for a woman whose hair is extremely visible when they don’t shave.
Do you have pics that prove your point?
I do!
I’m very white, very Northern European, and this is what my arm looks like! My legs are even hairier.
I may have dark hair, but it’s very fine and yet…still shows up. And if you look at actual blondes who don’t shave, it shows up a lot too.
The problem is that we are idealized as “pure” by racists and the only images shown of us in adverts show us hairless because that’s the standard forced on us. We actually have lots of body hair, more than other ethnicities stereotyped as being hairy. It’s just that nobody is used to seeing actual women with body hair.
“White women are hairless” is just racist propaganda men use to shame other women.
@whenthesecondsun
half white but this still applies. got my hair from my south asian AND yugoslav side. all the croat girls i see at church have similarly noticable hair.
Russian here, despite being white I have a lot of hair (which I love tbh)
I love it when white women are blamed for misogyny
Both me and my sister are half southern Italian and half English/Scottish/Ukrainian/miscellaneous super white.
I have dark hair, more olive skin and dark noticeable body hair. My sister got all the traditionally white physical traits (including the rosy non-tanning pale skin) and she has MORE body hair than I. Sure, it’s blonde hairs, but it’s noticeable on her arms and legs, armpits, and she has fine hairs on her face too. So does my mom who is 100% northern/white.
Conversely, my friend who is Ghanaian, has virtually no body hair at all. And what she does have is very very fine.
Saying that white women are naturally hairless is untrue and perpetuates the problem, namely idealizing white womens bodies.
Most white women aren't blonde. Our leg hair is still thick and wiry like anyone else's, and the dark brown hairs contrast on our skin to be highly visible. Where does this idea that white women are naturally hairless come from?
The women with the least amount of body hair come from some African and east Asian countries. Not European. I don’t know how that myth got started, but it’d be cool if we stopped spreading it. Women of European descent range from moderately hairy to hairy as fuck.
Light skin is a European beauty standard, as are light hair and eyes, narrow noses, etc.. Hairlessness is just pedophile culture, because women aren’t naturally hairless and the closest women to it aren’t European.
I just keep thinking about Dumbledore and how he constantly keeps calling Voldemort by a name he doesn’t like and how I’ve always felt weirded out by it even in fanfiction then I remember how Jk r* is a terf and that’s probably expl everything
i can’t explain in words how funny this take is
NSNSNDNSNS how dare u call a fictional mass murderer by his fictional real name instead of lord of death in your own fictional book 😑 evil terfs
Poor Voldemort! Getting deadnamed by his arch enemy
This take is so funny to me, because of how controlling Voldemort is when it comes to names. The fear the name "Voldemort" inspires is commented on more than once: because names have this much power only because we allow it to. Voldemort uses his new name to inspire fear, demands to be called a Lord, by a title avoiding his name, and tries to hide his birth name because it makes him less scary, and because it takes back his control.
The entire Voldemort names mess is about control. And I find hilarious the hot takes that consists of how Dumbledore refusing to be controlled in such a way is actually transphobic. It says so much about your movement
Dumbledore is probably a TEHM
"I've always felt like a woman."
I understand you have a feeling but from the bottom of my bleeding uterus that feeling is not woman. You have a disquiet in yourself, I understand that, no one is questioning your having a feeling. What we are telling you is that feeling which torments you has been improperly labeled as woman and your quest must continue.
Beyond the penises and y chromosomes, you know how you can tell transwomen are men? They have the expectation of being respected as...wait for it...women! HA HA HA!
one thing you start to notice when you become involved with feminism is that misogyny never makes the list of things wrong with the world. that thing people do in speeches and posts where they list prejudices for emphasis and it always goes "racism, poverty, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, amen." and women are forgotten
back when i was a truscum/transmed/exclus i used to frequent the r/truscum subreddit a lot, and it was always a running joke that this sub had way more ftm than mtf, while mainstream/tucute trans subs were the opposite. back then i was like lol how random! but now i realize it’s bc ftms genuinely see their gender dysphoria as a hardship and a medical condition they have to deal with, while a lot of mtfs are just agps or think it’s funny💀
I love when people try to throw infertile women, women with PCOS or endo, intersex women under the buss to "own the terves"
If your response to "woman = adult human female" is to list out women with DSDs, chronic illnesses, or hysterectomies as an attempted gotcha, you're just providing that you know exactly who is female and who is male. Embarrassing behaviour
God it's just so funny to me. They list out these exceptions because they KNOW that women are typically born with ovaries, a uterus, a certain level of various hormones. They know! If they didn't, they wouldn't be able to point to women (aka female humans) who are outside that norm.
"You say women are defined by biology but what about THIS woman who has a disorder or illness or had a surgery!"
The mere fact that they say this means that they know it's not typical. They wouldn't point to a man and say "well what about him!! HE doesn't have ovaries, gotcha terf" because they know that a male with ovaries would be bizarre and a female without them is rare or a result of surgery.
I'm tired of everyone acting like these people do not know exactly what biological sex is
what is this even advocating for
Treating women unequally.
This is exactly what women’s lives are like in except in rich, first world countries and you’re all cowards for pretending otherwise
This cartoon is talking about women in rich, first world countries. All women, even upper-middle class white women, are put at a disadvantage to men in the corporate sphere by not only having to do their jobs well, but also having to perform a “second shift” of housework and child-rearing. So corporate capitalism which professes to be a meritocracy functionally isn’t because women are constantly battling obstacles that don’t exist for men. Even rich women. Even white women.
“Mom the teacher said I need to bring in 25 Paleo-friendly gluten free peanut free cupcakes for the bake sale tomorrow.”
“Sorry sweaty we live in a FIRST WORLD COUNTRY and I make 85 grand a year I don’t do cupcakes. Now put your dirty laundry in the garbage can and help me open the clean clothes I just bought from Old Navy.”
I’m genuinely bewildered at the number of people on here that have paid zero attention to the older women in their lives. Like, have you ever looked at your mother’s life or is she just an npc to you?
