We used most of a roller derby practice to photograph basketball bunny hahaha, but I think it was a practice well spent. I may have some bruises but I don’t think they’re too visible in these pictures :D
Last weekend was Tampere Kuplii. I went as Cassandra Cain on Saturday and Spider-Gwen on Sunday. I had a great weekend. Here’s some thoughts :D
On Saturday morning we went to see a lecture that had a very interesting subject, but unfortunately it didn’t give me much of anything new. I mean almost all superhero comics have some aspects that are very much related to the social issues and events of the time they're written and you could probably write several books about all the analysis you could do. But everyone knows Cap America punching Hitler was about WWII and X-men has a lot of commentary about minorities etc
After that I mostly hung out with the Batfamily cosplay group and checked out if there was anything I'd want to buy. I ended up with a couple of post cards and some stickers. I decided I wouldn't buy comics here anymore because they're extra expensive.
And then we went to eat. Always the best part of the day 😅
On Sunday we went to see a panel about women in Marvel TV series and it was not what I hoped. They basically went through all the stuff people have been saying on the internet for the last two years. They didn't say a word about the women in Agents of SHIELD that is not exactly great and doesn't have a clear female lead, but to me the women in that series are a 100% more interesting and strong than any of the men. And then they kept forgetting names of some of the main characters. I can forgive a random brainfart where you just can't get the name even tho you know you know it, but when it's just been told to another panelist and you still forget it’s pretty unprofessional.
So I didn't get anything new out of that one either.
Then we went to see a lecture about Neil Gaiman's Sandman and the myths and religious stories he's used in creating the world and characters in the comic series. That was actually interesting. I like Sandman but I haven't really gotten so in to it that I would have known all the stuff she spoke about. So I found out new things and that's the reason I go to see these panels.
Sadly most of these panels and lectures seem to be targeted to the movie fans or casual viewers so they only go through some basics and I end up feeling like I know more than the people I'm listening to and could do the program so much better.
Then there was a Marvel cosplay meet up and photoshoot. I went to stand around for a little and pose in a couple of pictures and drink coffee until I decided it was time to continue our day somewhere else.
Then we went to see the last lecture of the day which was about the women in Disney movies.
That was actually sort of a positive surprise. I wasn't even going to go but we had nothing better to do so we went. I was a bit worried it would be some radical feminist bullshit like these kinds of things tend to be these days. But the speaker had taken a more positive view. She went through Disney women by telling what makes each of them strong, what makes them typical for the era they're from and what critique could be given. Again it didn't really tell anything new to me and it started to get a bit repetitive, but it was better than I expected.
So it’s been a month and I am finally making this post :D
I went to New York Comic Con with my sister and this is a little post about my experience. A very picture heavy post.
First of all the Javits Center was easy to find. We arrived to New York late Thursday night and went to get out badges before heading to our hotel to sleep.
We needed wristbands to see any of the mainstage programs and this is the one we had decided to stand in line for on Friday morning. Or I decided and my sister was ok with it.
Before getting on the line we got some breakfast and ate in the line. What else is there to do when you know you’re going to be standing in line for like 2 hours :D
After getting our wristbands we headed upstairs and found this. So cute. The bears I mean. Tho the Nightwing cosplayer that happened to stand next to them isn’t bad either :)
The artist alley. A bit bigger than in any Finnish conventions. Found a lot of lovely stuff here too. Still wondering how to get them all on my walls because I’m running out of wallspace.

Toys and toys and more toys
The place was seriously huge. I’m pretty sure we didn’t even see everything because we were kind of busy running from one panel to another. I decided the programs were more important to me in the end because I could order most of the stuff on sale from the internet if I wanted to.
<3 I didn’t take many cosplay pictures for several reasons but some costumes you just MUST photograph. Even with just your phone and people running on the background.
So sad these were just for show. I would have loved to buy one.
Me drowning in bags full of stuff I had to buy. I also got a shorter wig for my Nightwing costume before the trip and even tho I like the long one better this was a pretty good decision, more practical. I would have gone crazy with the long one when it would have been constantly in my way and totally messed up.

The best thing about the Teen Wolf panel. I don’t much care about the teenagers in the show :D Sprayberry was cute too but he’s not THE Dylan. I was a bit sad it wasn’t known which cast members were going to be there before they got on stage. At least we couldn’t find anyone who knew. We might have skipped this.
I’m pretty sure my expectations for this movie are way too high and I will end up disappointed but the costumes are so cool.
Jurassic World. The dino was moving too. I have a video somewhere but I probably won’t post it here.
Batwing and Batman. They were so funny :D
The Bad Blood panel was the last program in the evening and it was awesome. I’m super excited for the movie.
On Saturday morning we were standing in queue again. This time for X-files and then we jumped to the Last Witch Hunter line because it wasn’t full so we decided why not.
There were many Gwens in the convention but I was probably the only one with completely self-made costume. I was rather touched and proud when people came to me and said they though mine was the best one they’d seen <3 Made my day that much better.
Oh yeah! They showed the first episode of the new season and it was so great. I was really happy they had kept the feeling of the old series and not made it too polished and heavy with special effects like many scifi series these days.

X-men. One of the problems of taking cosplay photos in conventions is that there’s so many people that there’s no space to take good photos and there’s always random people in the background or running past between you and the cosplayers. Also the cosplayers are in a hurry so they don’t usually have time to pose for long so they’ll be gone before you can properly set your camera. I could take quick phonecam pics but I don’t really see the point of those. They never look so good and wonderful cosplays deserve more.

Red Hood. I had to kinda run after him while I was chased by a Spider-man who wanted a picture with me :D In the end I got my picture and the Spider.man got his.
The Last Witch Hunter panel. I wasn’t that interested in the movie, but I say if you can see Vin Diesel live, always go see Vin Diesel live.
Sure there was Elijah Wood too...... but VIN DIESEL.
I’m in love. I might have to order this some day when I’m rich enough.

Took a couple last pictures of the place before the event was over and it was time to leave the relative safety of out nerd community and enter the actual New York City.

It wasn’t allowed to take pictures inside the museum so it was good this Batmobile was right infront of the glass wall at the entrance so I could get a pic from outside :D

The Arkham game series Robin I said I bought.
Stuff to fill a suitcase and backpack with. Now filling the shelves and walls in my living room.
All in all the convention was a great experience and I wish we had more time to see everything. There was so much to see 3 days just wasn’t enough and many of the programs we would have wanted to see were at the same time so we had to make some difficult choices. No regrets. I would go again if it wasn’t so expensive to travel to.
