how did “empires only last 250 years” even begin propagating like it’s such a boldly false thing to even say. the average person knows so shockingly little about history bc there’s no way anyone with even a tenuous grasp on human history can believe that for a nanosecond. the first time someone said that to me i immediately was like “byzantine empire lasted a thousand years. what are you talking about” like it’s so bewildering to me how that even became so widely repeated. also that’s not even how “history repeats itself” works theres no general manual on how a category of civilization is supposed to live and die, repetition is based on specific conditions that lend themselves towards a certain outcome, various civilizations hundreds of years apart are not guaranteed to last the same length of time just because they share one general similarity in governmental structure. that being said it’d be really funny if the US fell within the 250 yr timeframe lol
