However, by the Season 5 finale, this ancient terror was reduced to a generic "Kaiju," destroying the very thing that made it terrifying.
Lovecraftian horror relies on the "Fear of the Unknown." The Shadow: In Season 2 and the stage play, the Mind Flayer was an atmosphere. It was a storm, a cloud, a psychic weight. Many fans ask why the "Meat Flayer" (the multi-legged avatar) in the Starcourt Mall worked, while the Season 5 Kaiju failed.

By turning it into a Kaiju, Stranger Things traded Psychological Masterclass for Summer Blockbuster Clichés. It betrayed the Lovecraftian roots established in the stage play and early seasons, leaving us with a monster that had a lot of teeth, but no soul.
