could you please tell us more of your ideas on B/L? i looooove your original stories for their characters and i’d like to know more of ur opinion on their relationship! love u
- One of the things that fascinate me abt the Wammy’s house is the presentation of L’s image along with the religious symbolism. There was a post detailing this some time ago that I don’t have near rn but I’ll try to link to it later bc it was super interesting. It was about how the interiors of Wammy’s really look like an old chatolic church with all the vitraux and the cross at the front, plus how L is presented as an idolized figure for children, like a role model everyone should aspire to be. Kinda like a god? we all see it in the wammy boys: Near is going through an identity crisis in the epilogue, Mello’s only goal is to defeat Near (suppossedly) just to prove he’s a better…candidate? for L’s title. L’s title is a huge thing for all of them and it reminds me of some Foucaultian text I’ve read once about identity (I don’t want to go long on that though because I don’t remember it super well. Foucault you complex slut)
- I see B as a character with a shattered and very poor sense of identity, mostly due to the traumatic events of his childhood and his eyes…..for which I also have a pending hc post haha. The way the icon of L has been inforced in him ( specially as second in line in the first generation) must have had some horribly strong influence. Like I can really imagine how frustrating is to be devoid of your individuality and try to be like someone else…it kinda reminds me of my old days at some church I used to go. We were enthusiastically exhorted to be like “the better figures” of church (not even Jesus…which would have made sense)
- So for B I guess the pressure to be L is translated as “You have to love and you have to be like him, but he’ll never acknowledge you, because that’s not his job” and for someone desperate for attention as B that must have been rough. He doesn’t know why he has to see the lifespan of everyone, and he doesn’t know why he has been chosen to be the world’s most important detective. We all ask ourselves what are we born for, why do we exist, what’s our purpose. For B these questions must have produced a nice mess in his head
- So what’s left is some sort of disaster broken-mirror sort of relationship that’s weird and fun to think about. B in general is weird and fun to think about, haha. But I love L too, and I think B’s feelings in regard to him go through a whirpool of “i want to be like you - i hate you - i want to surpass you - i love you “ because HE HAS to be EXTREME and DRAMATIC and THEATRICAL while L is like

-SO IN CONCLUSION B/L opens the door for something very sad, very weird and very fun, which are three things I’m always down to read/explore. Ah I always talk about youremyqueen’s fics on AO3 but honestly their perception of B/L is the most umcomfortable and fun dynamic I’ve read and I love it very much
