'Why doesn't transracialism exist if both race and gender are socially constructed" is such a funny copout because yeah one can change race depending on location. I'm Coloured in South Africa (non-black) and Black in the West. I change race depending on where I am and arguably depending on who I am with and how I'm being perceived.
It's also why even though there are white Latines, they are very often racialised as being simply "Latine" as a kind of racial identity in the western world.
Obviously, this is different to being trans but it's an example of the fluidity of racial identity. Even ethnicity is something malleable, bendable and can change depending on where, when and who you are. Gender being a kind of 'social skin' just means unlike race and ethnicity, it's reflective of the internal and psychological rubbing up against the external social world.
female-presenting vitruvian
i appreciate the amount of people reblogging this despite me not really tagging this at all. im glad many of people feel the same anger i do.
They’re on Reddit saying texting “hi” is low iq and gives people the ick and that’s why they got ghosted. They don’t let u say hi no more….. we’re in a loneliness epidemic bc everybody is a weirdo about every little thing im cracking up
If you say "hi" and that's it you sound like you don't give a shit. Why would I want to talk to someone who won't even introduce themselves properly? Make an effort or suffer your loneliness epidemic.
You people are crazy . You’re just crazy. This isn’t a normal world anymore
It's poor netiquette. If someone sent you a letter in the mailbox that just said "hi" would that not drive you insane?
I would send hello ^.^ back ….. and feel warm inside
I would tear it into pieces with my hands.
Who the fuck are you?
Fuck you for the anxiety you gave me from getting a letter from a name and address I don’t recognize.
Fuck you for the time you made me waste having to open that letter.
Fuck you for the complete bullshit feeling of finding out that you literally just wrote “hi” and expected that to communicate anything or resolve anything.
I don’t know your stupid douchebag ass, and I don’t want to. Fuck all the way off.
I’m here all pissed off just from imagining that hypothetical. It’s nothing short of disgusting that SOME shitheads think that this is acceptable behavior.
i would send hey!! :P
If you just say "Hi" in a message out of the blue, and I don't know you? Instant block, and I don't give it a second thought.
Greater than 99.9% chance that's just a grifter's bot. Of course people don't respond when you sound like a catfishing scheme. Such bots are commonplace on tumblr, and everybody should understand why that's annoying.
And like, I get it. I remember the internet before bots, when you could just... talk to random people halfway around the world. Finger, Talk, Usenet, all of it. And it was pretty neat!
But everything is astroturfed by corporations and grifters these days, so while such connections can still be found, you have to put more effort into rising above the vast sea of Slop than a catfisher's "Hi".
Hi? No, I'm not sending you money -- fuck off.
baseball interviewers will ask "how do you throw the ball so good" and Mariners players will casually drop that they have a headmate who plays the game for them
I really…really don’t wanna go to work today. But I have meetings and shit.
I also don’t really have the sick time or time off available. Weh…
I really…really don’t wanna go to work today. But I have meetings and shit.
it does actually bother me whenever it's like... a bunch of guys and 1 girl. like the smurfs. that's weird. the minions are also weird for it being all guys. stop doing this
and yes I am saying your fictional characters can only ever be women now. and you have to be normal about it . no misogynistic jokes
had me in the first half, actually i think its weird to do either way.
wow and I really care about your opinion, random man on the Internet. thank you so much for informing me that having an all male cast (very common, very misogynistic) is just as bad as having an all female cast (very uncommon and awesome). I cannot wait to hear more unwanted and unneeded opinions from you, but unfortunately you must be blocked
"we haven't talked in a while what have you been doing recently?"
My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
Shoutout to people in the notes also mentioning people learning the language, I should've mentioned that really, given that I've been stuck reading German picture books myself while learning German.
Sometimes having an OC is like "this character is an outlet for my insecurity and trauma" and sometimes it's like "this character is an outlet for my love of vampires :)". Sometimes it's both
Sometimes you think it's "this character is an outlet for my love and nothing more :)" and then you look it over later like "shit. product of the deepest depths of my soul again"
Sometimes it’s the unyielding silence
could really go for 200mg right now. of anything.
one of the best pieces of advice I've ever heard (for myself, at least) is that if you're in a terrible mood and NOTHING is helping, then start doing the chores/responsibilities/job stuff/etc that you've been putting off. Will it put you in an even worse mood temporarily? Probably, but you're already pissed off, so you might as well double up on it at that point 😭 there's no loss. It's not like finally getting around to cleaning the house and scheduling appointments is going to ruin the good day that you aren't currently having to begin with 💀 And then, when the bad mood passes, you'll have gotten shit done and you'll feel a lot better later, even if in the moment you're having The Worst Time Ever about it.
you will not see any actual improvement to the rate of disordered eating in the general population until you address fatphobia and improve social and material conditions for fat people and especially fat women enough that fatness isn't a looming spectre but unfortunately the lives of young women are considered a largely acceptable cost to not have to do this
Can socialism help advance the cause of trans femme liberation?
Yes!
Not gonna write too much on this because I have a bunch of other posts, so here's an index of some stuff I've written and some extracts from other works I've posted. It's not all directly about trans women, but I hope that the applicability of these general women's lib posts to the struggle for transfemme liberation in particular becomes evident!
Claudia Jones, on the importance and method of organizing Black women within the Communist Party
Me, on organizing within/around transmisogynystic parties
FRSO, statement on Transgender Day of Visibility
Eleanor Burke Leacock, on the applicability of Marxist analysis to women's liberation.
Me, on the importance of class consciousness within the movement for transfemme liberation
Me, on the relationship between the particular movement for transfemme liberation and the broader movement for women's liberation
Me, on the possibility for transfeminist work within the wider movement for socialism
The New York Women's School, on the importance of socialism for women's liberation
Jingerpi, Jimmy, and myself, discussing the need for socialism to advance the movement for transfemme liberation
