whenever dean is about to fall asleep, just as his mind is drifting off, he prays to cas. just little snippets of things he wants cas to know. ‘don’t forget to rest, cas’ or ‘I left a slice of pie for you’ or ‘remind me to show you that thing tomorrow.’ cas always stops whatever he’s doing when he hears dean’s prayers and he immediately does whatever dean prays for. because somehow it seems more important than anything else cas is doing. cas knows those were dean’s last conscious thoughts before falling asleep and somehow it feels special that dean’s last coherent thoughts were directed at cas.

dean keeps the tradition going when cas is finally his. silent love confessions in the form of prayers as dean falls asleep. ‘I love you, in case you forgot’ or ‘you looked so handsome today in the garden’ or ‘c’mere, need to keep you in my arms.’ the last thing dean feels before he drifts off is the soft touch of cas’ lips on his cheek as cas murmurs his love for dean and presses the words into dean’s skin until it’s imprinted on his heart.
