My Drawing I Experience

I have been taking Drawing I this semester and I wanted to show you my work, progress and share a little of my experience in this class! I was already an avid drawer when I entered this class. Mainly I would draw anime and manga little cartoons or pictures of dresses. I’ve taken some formal drawing classes before so I know the basics but I was very eager to up my skills in this class! I feel like I have improved a lot in the class and I have done a lot of things I have never thought of before!

This was the first drawing I did the first day of class. We were focusing on line drawing and couldn’t use any shading. I’m very proud of this drawing! It was a good place to start.

This drawing we did as a copy of another artists drawing using grids. I I liked this one too and my cows got some mad winged eyeliner going on.

This was my first big project and probably my favorite thing I’ve ever drawn. This had some very interesting rules. We had one piece of paper, one sharpie, no starting over or sketching in out in pencil and the kicker? We had to spend a full 24 hours on it. I thought I was going slightly crazy by the end but I am so so happy the result. At the beginning I thought I totally messed up and I wanted to start over but I couldn’t and I kept going and I couldn't be happier with the result.

This self portrait was out introduction to working with value and we could only use our figure prints and ink to make this drawing. This is one of the few self portraits I’ve done that actually looks like me and while I do like it a lot I don’t feel it was my strongest piece. I overworked the eyes and didn’t put enough shading on my face.

I really liked this one! For this drawing we had to go to the Smith Art Museum and pick out 10 things and put them all together in the drawing and I did the Mad Tea Party Composition! I was very happy with this drawing! My favorite parts are the leopard and the horse!

For the past two classes we’ve been working on drawing nude models which I thought would be weird but it actually isn’t! I feel like this is wear I have made the most progress by far and I am very proud of my work! I am also exacted because I feel like I’m getting better at proportions which is super useful in fashion drawing!!

This is just a small sample of the work I’ve done in the class and I hoep you have enjoyed seeing the type of work done in a Smith Drawing class!
