Wick had spit alcohol on Thjazi's corpse...but because it wasn't malicious, he didn't get cursed...
But what if?!?!
You're allowed to dislike Wicander Halovar. You're allowed to believe what he did was fucked up. You're allowed to feel things about it, but before you write him off completely or post that rant, I would ask you to consider a few things:
The one primarily at fault is Primus Tachonis (and the dice). He is the one who put Wick in that position to begin with, and it was an impossible choice. Yes, Wick could have been extra noble and sacrificed himself to save that random NPC, but would that have served the overall story? Would that have been a satisfying end to his character arc? As a player, I completely understand why Sam would not want to lose his character that way, especially since he was so backed into a corner after a series of unfortunate rolls. Story-wise, it would have majorly messed things up for the rest of the party, and we had literally just had three major deaths. The choice makes sense.
Let's also not pretend Primus wouldn't have killed the NPC anyway if Wick had declined to. There was no saving that NPC, but Wick had a chance to save himself.
It also makes for more interesting character development, in my opinion. Wick now has to live with what he did, and we have already seen that it's broken him in a way. He spent the whole time afterward crying about it, and he was visibly distraught and out of sorts. I think that's far more interesting to delve into than just "he got murdered trying to protect a random character we know nothing about."
Wick and the party are trying to play the long game, and in order to do that, some or all of them are going to have to do things they don't want to do. Being in the position he is, Wick is unfortunately more susceptible to being pushed toward those things.
Anyway, I will defend Wicander Halovar in this scenario, especially because it involves more opportunity for us all to hate on Primus Tachonis's bitch ass.
Beacon: Giving Agency Back 🙌
Brennan Lee Mulligan reveals how he gave Sam Riegel some agency for those bad dice rolls 🔮
In the latest Critical Role Cooldown, Brennan gets into why he didn't let the dice decide Sam's fate, and how handing him a choice instead made all the difference. The table is already taking bets on how Wicander will change after all this!
This one closes out the arc, folks.
Someone on yt kept trying to argue that this was bad GMing and I'm glad others agree that that is absurd. I knew exactly what Brennan was doing when he brought this out. And I think Sam did the right call because who knows what repercussions it would have had on the whole operation if he senseless died there for an honor that would not have helped anyone. Feel bad for the person and that will probably weigh on Wick for a while, but, honestly, Wick needed a wake up call.
If [Teor] just died, he's real mighty, the others there with him must be in danger. So I think, even though I'd really like to see what my friends here are doing [...] I think I have to dash as fast as I can to the Tachonis house.
I'm so curious to see how Sam will approach Wicks thoughts on murdering that woman. I've seen the opinion that was him selfishly choosing himself with nothing else on the line, and if Sam decides to play it this way it would also be super interesting. But i would also love it if it means Wick decided to give up his morals and conscience and become a weapon, he's already been showing signs of not feeling like a person, and he's already shown that he believes he's irredeemable.
I can't stop thinking about last episode for Wick in general.
The warmth and respect between Thimble and wick, a bond forged in battle.
The way Hal and Murray keep making digs at Wick, displacing their anger at house halovar/the sundered houses at him. Which i love btw it shows so much interesting personality details about both of them. I might do another post when ive formulated it better but in general i think murray is playing up the character flaw that brings her into conflict with azune, and hal is showing how much he's barely holding together and how overwhelmed he is, and reflects the way he's been much more brash lately. Can't wait to see how that works out (/pos)
The fact that occtis and Julien both assured wick it wasn't his fault, incidentally being the only two personally familiar with how terrifying Primus is and also the other two people that Wick was trying to go rescue there.
How Tyranny keeps showing her hurt at Wick leaving her behind.
Bolaire saying i trust him completely
Not Lady Gaga's Hold My Hand start playing when I have my characters hold hands to help give one of them courage. Holy shit.
Welcome to Kinktober 2026!
The only positive about this two month break is maybe I won't be obsessed about this angel boy while I'm trying to write my goblin girl fan fics.
Sadly adding 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol to my Wicander Halovar play list after watching episode 30 of Campaign 4...
Do you think that during the next mighty nein live show veth is gonna be visibly pregnant or will the baby be here already
Can you imagine Matt(or Liam as I don't think its been completely debunked that he could be the DM) asking Sam to roll to see Veth goes into labor while in the Happy Fun Ball?!
